How to Skin & Wash Your Furby - Cleaning 1998 Furby Tutorial - Sewing Ears - Refurbish - 90s Toys

  • Here is a tutorial on how to remove your Furby from its skin, wash the fur, and reattach the ears! This tutorial is being done on my 1998-style Tie Dye Furby, "Pastel", who was shipped to me in poor condition. This Furby had matted fur with some sort of substance caked into its fur as well as discoloration.
    What you'll need for this tutorial:
    - Scissors
    - Thread in a matching color
    - A needle
    - A tub/water dish
    - Soap (I used laundry detergent)
    - Hanger for drying (Unless you have a clothes line)
    - Brush or comb
    - Small screwdriver (depending on how your Furby face plate is secured)
    - Optional: Glue to secure the face plate back on (if yours wasn't screwed on), plastic bag if you want to try and preserve the swing tag (didn't work for me but maybe you'll have better luck!).
    If you have any questions you can comment below! Or if there are other Furby-related tutorials you'd like to see, let me know. Also don't forget to subscribe for more "Furbtastic" videos!

    It's amazing to see how resilient our robot friends can be, still working after being stored away in unfavorable conditions, garages, storage units, closets, etc. for years. All they need is a little tlc ❤
    Also a tip for anyone who doesn't want to sew the ears on for any reason: earrings work as a good substitiute! I frequently take apart my Furbies for customizations/repairs so sewing them on every time would be a waste of thread. I got five packs of cute earrings for $1 each at Dollar General and they hold the ears in place really well, plus they also make your Furby stylish!

    For the tag, you could always take it off before a cleaning and then reattach it with a needle and thread, or invest in a tag gun.
    Additionally, for getting a white back to bright, try making a paste of baking soda and water to work into the browned areas and then rinse with vinegar before washing again with soap/detergent.

    • @shagmuffin6312
      @shagmuffin6312 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      An exacto knife or similar small blade works well, cuticle scissors are also a good option. The worst thing that can happen is cutting into the plastic a bit but you would have to go real hard to do serious damage.

    • @frogholder
      @frogholder 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @StrangeLatte
      @StrangeLatte 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@frogholder so far I've just risked it with scissors and used a file to smooth the damage 😔 Not ideal tho. I think maybe, if you get a thin enough screwdriver and wrap like painters tape around it that might help? I plan on trying it with my new furb.

When I look at it I don’t see any threads holding it together that I have to cut, it just wont move. The zip tie doesn’t move either so I can’t get to the thinner part and away from the head of the zip tie. Should I just cut the lining to get more room to cut it? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I’m just very nervous about skinning my furby and want to do it right. 😁

      MSA stands for ‘Me Sleep Again’ which is a bug that some 1998 Furby encounter. They will wake up and then go right back to sleep. Some will fully wake up after a few tries and others won’t ever fully wake up. ☹️ Some can be fixed by holding down the tongue and the reset button at the same time. I have one Furby that has MSA and I have to do the reset method a few times to get it to fully awaken.
