Couple of things, even though you got this lil guy/girl back to life. 1. Don't need to cut the zip-tie (did you re-install a new one?) Use a flat head screwdriver at the zip connecting point, (Where one end of the zip-tie goes into the locking mechanism on the other end) against the lower stand's base. You can easily pry it up and over the grove of the base, then simply work your way around the base. Comes right off. Also, if all you're doing is rotating the horizontal gear under the right eye, you don't need to cut the thread holding the ears. Move the ears upright, and loosen the screw at the top of it's head, so you don't break that section of plastic. The more you remove and cut, the less it's worth on a resale. Just some helpful tips, not bashing. Thanks for sharing.

This video saved Christmas, my daughter wanted a vintage Furby. She received two. Both were dead, but thanks to your video, they were both brought back to life. I was able to do it by only partially removing the right side of the body, no need to remove the ears. Thanks.
Great video! I wanted to say that there's a way to open a zip tie, no need to cut it. You can insert a safety pin or something else small into it. Hope that helps speed up the process!

Thank you took a bit but got it done and it works! Was a new 1998 and the problem was exactly as you said. The screws were hard to get out was my problem!
Do you know of any way to do this successfully without removing the skin/plastic tag? I just got a new 1998 special edition and I've never had to deal with this issue before with my past Furbies, and I really don't want to mess up the fabric to where it not be seamed at the bottom. I know that sounds picky, but it's only one of so many so I want it to work without having to dismantle it if possible. I've read some comments on videos that shaking or banging them lightly against the direction of the gears might help, but so far no luck.
Kevin I too had the same worries but ultimately I was left with no choice since I wanted to have working furbys. Attempting to jump start the Furby doesn’t always succeed, even with new in box furbys, so doing so is a risk. You really must consider whether you want to keep your Furby as is or attempt to get it working again. Hope this helps!
I commented above about the same thing. Not wanting to mess with the fabric seam. DON'T BANG IT AT ALL. A bigger hammer won't work for this fix, and the fact that the gears are inside the body cavity, there's no option. Some have posted that you can squeeze lubrication down behind its ears. Bad idea. Most folks will "over-lubricate". Depending on what you use (The creator recommends Silicone Grease. You can research this as well). Don't use Petroleum based lubricants.
I had a DOA brand new in box Furby. I put batteries in and banged it a little against my hand and it sprang to life. Although another I had stopped working. Banged it multiple times and nothing worked. I moved the gear like she shows and BOOM it started working. I think the circuit knows that if it's not moving to stop working so basically if someone / thing is forcing the parts from moving, it won't strip the gears etc when it tries to move. I am glad there are no internal batteries for "memory" that can go bad.
Oh yeah, you didn’t really have to open it up. You could also try smacking the bottom, moving the ears, eyes mouth and smacking the back if that doesn’t bring it to life you can try doing an external push start by moving the beak down the top one and if you can’t see the white little gear, it’s best to go inside, but if you do see the white little gear what looks like a corkscrew gear because it is spinning with your flathead screwdriver or star screwdriver a small one be careful though cause you could knock off the tongue sensor switch
