    You helped a cow over here in the states with your sharing of knowledge. I was at a Cornell cooperative farm in NY and noticed a cow walking lame on her back foot so I told them they should check her hooves, they sent me a message later and said there was a stone in the white line. Thanks for making videos, one of my favorite channels.

    • @MountainPearls
      @MountainPearls 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I agree. I’m fortunate I live rurally in the Mountains of NC with a smaller regional grocery store chain (but a nice regular one…nothing special. They do the labeling on their own) that tells us where some of the meat comes from (locally). I think people for me the area (mostly Scott Irish Descent and Cherokee have always cared for their animals too. Ethical and local food has always been important-or as long as I can remember, it has. I suppose I noticed talk about it in the mid -90s as a teen and it’s a big industry here that locals wanted to support). It became something I cared very much about about since “meeting” calves being raised for veal on a field trip in high school when I was 17. Never had it, never will. It isn’t just that they are a babies (what they do to them is awful. I never buy meat from that farm). It really isn’t that much more expensive, either, to buy from ethical local farmers. If I cut back on meat once or twice a week, it fits in my budget just fine (and that is healthy to do anyways). It tastes better as well. I did my research and always buy from the ethical farms for any animal products since the store started doing it. Particularly one beef and dairy farm as I know then family enough to say hello. The store even sells local honey where I know they treat the bees like the queens they are (many of their hives are actually rescued locally, too. Their keepers will come out and get them for you. They have been known to help with repairs…then don’t pay but they’ll help you patch your home etc. as they have those skills. Or send people who know to help). My favorite cheese is from Wales and I did a deep dive on that farm too via a friend near Cardiff who asked around for me (I do have to go to a specialty shop for it. But only it). The world is connected enough for us to find out where our food is raised ethically (or not). Someone good with tech. could make bank is the made an app where we could find out if a company buys from ethically rated farms (or not)-and how far those farms are from you as well! There would need to be a database, I wish it could somehow be crowdsourced and put together. Maybe it already exists? I have a friend in NYC who buys Kosher for just this reason too (not much of a Kosher population where I live so the closest store is 30 minutes away, otherwise I would too). People like this gentleman in different parts of the world could help put that database together (anonymously so it wouldn’t hurt their businesses).

    • @brigidtheirish
      @brigidtheirish 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Agreed. The *Bible* has rules for the humane treatment of animals! (One I can remember is to not tie the ox's mouth so it can't eat what falls out of the mill. The grit and flour that end up where the ox can get to it would go to waste if the ox doesn't eat it and getting that snack encourages the ox to do good work besides also being healthy.)

    • @Woolykins_Clubhouse
      @Woolykins_Clubhouse 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@bbsmumma8630 I have a question at the end of this reply. I had horses when I was younger, and our horse had some quirks, one being that you couldn't wear your hair in a ponytail around him or he would grab it and yank you to the ground. He never did anything to you after, just whinnied like he was laughing about it. Had a farrier come to do his hooves once that didn't listen when we told her she could change the way she had her hair to a low bun but and even explained why, and she didn't listen and got yanked to the ground. I'm pretty sure she didn't come back because she didn't like our horses behavior or the fact that she had three little girls (one being me) giggling at her because she found out we were right. Question is, was she a bad farrier or just a stubborn person? From what I remember she did fine on his hooves but she was cranky about being grabbed by the hair by a horse. What you do think?

    Started watching a day ago and been hooked! I cant believe how fascinating and cool this is. The views driving to farms, caring for the animals, nothing ever being the same and loving what you do goes a long way. Seldom we find folks who grind and get dirty that take pride and love what they do.
    The most awesome part is the relationship between you two. You work together so great, get each other and there is no I in the team! You always say "we". As a guy that runs a small company, it means the world when you work with people who really know team work makes the dream work.
    You guys are awesome!

      @@FOX78-r8h doing videos is a hobby. he enjoys his job. he knows the farmers, and has asked for permission to record. he obviously edits his videos, or has someone to edit them (pretty well may I add), and likes putting out content. believe it or not it takes time to record, cut up, edit, voice over and upload a video. If you don't like his videos, it's fine, but it's unfair to make assumptions like that about his work.You can believe what you want, but from what I have gathered, Graeme enjoys his job, and enjoys sharing it. If it brings joy to others, so be it. But he puts his job before everything else, and makes it as educational as possible. I knew nothing about cows before, and now I understand the significance of what a lime line is, what happens to a cracked horn that's been grown over, and the importance of pinpointing where the pressure of the foot will be. that's more than what I could have asked for when watching random TH-cam videos

      @@FOX78-r8h you know, I debated on replying to this post. But I decided to take a moment and share some history with you.
      What you are commenting on has been 19 years in the making. From the death of his father, the the loss of the family farm being sold out from under him, a couple of years at university, photography classes, a couple of years in the hospitality industry, a career change, time spent training with a professional hoof trimmer, and 8 years of building his business and clientele.
      You weren't there when he agonized over whether or not he should take the channel into monetization or the go fund me so he could make a down payment on his brilliant new crush.
      Nor were you there when he was showing signs of exhaustion from editing his videos on the side. Or when he debated on bringing in another person to help him. Or even the debate if he could bring in enough money to support them both and their families.
      That is what you cavalierly criticized. Don't judge a person's life by the chapter you walked in on.
      Graeme has a large following
      because he's earned it. He takes time out of his private life to make compelling content for both the layman and the professional, which is no easy task.

About 10 years ago, had a career change, worked for public transport for 5 years, then went back to cabinet making for 6 years, then had another career change (due to injury), and now I'm a Pathology Collector (Phlebotomist, taking people's blood for blood tests for the Dr). Been at it since April this year and I love it! Similar to your job, It is very repetitive, but the variety keeps it interesting. Veins on some people are easier to find than others, and some people can be hard to bleed one day, then the next I can bleed them no worries. And just about every day, I see a request for a test I've never seen before, or a request with Dr's rotten handwriting, so I have to call said Dr to ask what they'd written.
    Love it.

    I have been silently bingeing The Hoof GP the past week. I love your videos - in between trimming hoofs and seeing the cows get better, you mixed it with jokes, serious and reflective thoughts, music and beautiful views of the Scottish countryside. I'm in my 40s, had been through many jobs, and am now in the middle of a career switch into nursing (another healing job, haha). I never thought I'd go into nursing, but here I am. What you said here resonated with me :). Keep up the good work (both the trimming and the videos)!

    There's something really satisfying from watching you trim the cow's hooves. I think it's knowing you are giving them pain free lives. I think it's knowing how much you love your job and how much you care. I think it's that you share the life you share with your family and friends. The scenery. The music. It's a great channel for this city girl to watch. I've learned so much.
