For the most part, this style has allowed me to find success on TH-cam, but has also left me with a narrow editing skillset, unable to feel confident enough to try new and interesting things in my videos. After watching the marvelous videos Uncle Dane released recently, I came to a realization: For the most part, the reason his videos seem so damn well edited is not because he is an editing god descended from the heavens of After Effects, but because of the combination of solid pacing, excellent music choices, seamless transitions, and the occasionally well-timed joke. What I realized was that I could quite literally catapult my video quality to new heights if I just spent the time figuring out how to capitalize on these areas -- areas that are honestly not that complex from a technical point of view. Thus, this video is what came out of this new mindset. If it seems like an Uncle Dane video, that’s because, well, it’s greatly influenced by his videos. But I think it still has the signature Virtual Economist style melded in, and will hopefully educate you on trading just like the rest of my videos (and features bad gameplay)! My main issue with un-restricting Halloween cosmetics is that a lot of them change the shape of the default player mode, instead of adding on to it, meaning it can be harder to tell apart classes if you don't have a knowledge of all Halloween cosmetics, as well as allowing for stronger item sets designed to specifically make it harder to be headshot. Making essentially a pay to win scenario. cosmetics should impact gameplay as little as possible in my opinion, they should be there, but they shouldn't get in the way of the base gameplay in any way whatsoever (like how people abuse the high five taunt to see around walls), because its unfair to newer players who don't have access to them
I agree that changing the player shape is definitely a legitimate concern. Maybe it might make sense to keep them restricted from competitive modes but still allow them on casual servers.
Yea I agree especially with the headshot aspect. I already have trouble headshotting scouts, but if they are wearing a xenomorph head will make it even harder

Sorta makes me sad that I cannot obtain halloween spells on my unusual weapons and if I had wanted it I would've needed to risk trading it to somebody with the spells very early on after their release, I had planned to deck em out the very next halloween. Also some of the things in the video sorta reminds me of issues with unusual weapons that can occur especially if they are strange as well, I wonder if there are any Unusual Weapon pricing discords. (as I haven't heard of any existing & I have a lot of people coming to me to get estimation prices) Backpack isn't really doing a good job supporting unusual weapons as a whole even if they are getting some support using the unusual hat system which is sorta flawed as it will use none strange price for a strange unusual weapon if no price exists for it and doesn't account for the fact that war paints unapplied probably should be shared or have a mention of the applied war paints pricing, to make sure a lot of stuff isn't just unpriced. Anyways very nice video all in all, Gonna try and tackle unusual weapons next?
A video on unusual weapons is on the short-list! I'll admit it isn't super high up on the short list, but it's definitely something I've considered. As for an unusual weapons discord server, I don't think one exists, but I feel like you would be uniquely qualified to create one!
Sorry Archimo but I think you may have been confused about how the trading exploit worked? There would have been zero need for you to trade your Unusual weapons to anyone. Shame you missed out. I did manage to get Exorcism onto my Energy Orb SMG though, so that is nice, but unfortunately it is also an SMG.
@@cccarrow I know. Just didn't wanna take any risks myself and figured I could grab em the halloween after which turns out they were removed permanently.
inb4 more artificial price increases due to this video. But seriously, good video. Does a great job at re-capping all the spells, giving a general idea of each spell's base worth, and about the post-life spells.
Was definitely interesting to hear about the post-life stuff, I've got an Unusual Anger with an EotL effect and early supporter tag that's double spelled, and never really thought of it as that special. xd
I actually own a Strange Spec. Killstreak Festivized Rocket Launcher with a Exorcism spell (floating ghosts). Although I don't notice the effect all that much, it's the apple of my eye along with my two unusuals.
I dont mind the restriction on halloween items, its makes it more of a special moment when a full moon comes and every one has the chance to show of there spells and cosmetics on valve servers, plus i play on community servers a lot so that fills the void of not getting to use them i guess.

I 100% agree that removing holiday restrictions on items would be awesome! I’d love to wear my Halloween cosmetics year-round, because there are some really cool ones. Having them holiday-restricted kinda makes them feel cheap and honestly I forget to wear them even during full moons/Halloween.
Awesome video ! Your videos are almost making you to want to trade and to keep being in the tf2 trading community. Loved the new style of editing too keep up man !
I used to own a White Russian with Die Job spell on it. I didn't realize spells would become discontinued and rare back then. Sold it for like 45$ lol.
I had one some time ago that was on a sniper cosmetic I bought off the market but I sold it. Now I got a Medic cosmetic with both the Voices from Below and Spectral Spectrum on it! I want one with the foot prints now, I love the look of those!
@@paranoia4715 I also have a full set of spelled Demo aussies, a double spelled Liquid Asset, double spelled Level 0 Demoman's Fro, full Die Job spell set with a Gibus with Voices, Dead of Night, and Bruiser's Bandanna with Rotten Orange footprints, and a Spectral Spectrum HOUWAR
I remember getting a team spirit footprint spell back in the day. When I was a total noob. And I had no idea what I was doing. And I put it on my pyrovision goggles.... *sighs*
I still got my fully spelled demo loadout with unusual from back in the day. spectral spectrum. actually most of my most used items in tf2 got spells such as exorcist, pumpkinbomb, voices from the below, footprint and full spell painted loadouts.
I still hold hope every year we'll see them return, I'd do anything to add the spectral spectrum spell to a numerous amount of cosmetics and unusuals I have.

I see you replying to some comments about adding back spells saying "as long as they're new spells so the price of existing ones don't drop", but also in this video you suggested to enable spells year-round which would make all the spells shoot up a ton in price. Feels like a bit of a weird suggestion and as someone who enjoys the game casually, competitively, and through trading I think that suggestion would be bad for pretty much everyone involved except large spelled item hoarders. Also would ruin the spectacle of spelled items, sometimes I'll just be playing casually and see exorcism or pumpkin bombs pop on one of my weapons and I'll just be like "Oh it's a full moon tonight, neat". Also wouldn't be unpredicted for valve to add back items/effects. They re-released the old school halloween effects back in 2016 which was all the effects from 2011-15 for a bit and that was super cool and kept some of those effects a bit more affordable for a short while (not that they are anymore). I'm all for a re-release of the original halloween spells despite owning like 30-40 spelled items (with plans on getting more), I would much rather they be worthless and accessible to make everyone's hats look good rather than exclusive and expensive. Imagining unusual weapons with spells or even just some of the newer hats/cosmetics with spectral spectrum on the like is just super cool in concept and it's very unfortunate that it just can't exist at all.
I started playing TF2 in 2014 and I didn't ever got the spells, although I wish in this Scream Fortress XII, I want to see this items back, I really want them or at least some of them, also good explanation I really just needed it. Ps: The only thing I have with a spell is my Strange KS Flare Gun with exorcism(I bought the strange Flare Gun and came with that lol).

34 CC glengarry's exist, at least as far as public inventories are concerned, with there even being 6 spelled unusual ones! There's a dead presidents, scorching flames, eerie orbiting fire, smoking, purple energy, and a miami nights CC glengarry in existance. I'm sure some of them will show up on the market eventually, but if not you could always get BPTF premium to maybe try and negotiate with some of the owners.
I agree a lot of items shouldn’t be holiday restricted, notice how I didn’t say none? That because certain items make it hard for players to determine where hit boxes are like the beep boy, or the headless horseless horseman’s head.
I remember back in the day, scrap.tf had a lot more strange weapons, and every now and then you’d find one with a Halloween effect on it. It’s how I got a pumpkin bomb bot killer rocket launcher for like 7 ref.
Ah, I remember being around for the H'ween spells. Still got a few items with the spells on them. Sad part is being unable to accurately price them, cause they're rare, the spell-use item is non-existant, and makes it hard to sell them since people are just like "well THIS is better for THIS reason." lol
@@TheVirtualEconomist Yeah, I could do that. Though, dunno if I'd ever part with it. Having Horseless Footprints is a nice reminder of how long I've been around, haha.
I think they should add voice, paint, and excorcism spells back, and then add a few different weapon spells, but not the green flames and pumpkin explosives. The paints aren't too flashy and I like the exclusivity of the green flames and pumpkin bombs. However, I would love for new spells to be added, perhaps a green/orange goo trail effect for non-explosive projectile weapons like the mad milk, huntsman, and crossbow, or a magic sparkle upon Scout's double jump.
I've got a video suggestion, that being: Would you be able to make a new unusual effect tier-list guide? Would be helpful for any new incoming traders since the old one is missing a decent amount of effects.
They should bring spells back, but combine them with the spellbook mechanic. You can spend the spell pages you earn on crafting a random spell depending on the pages you spend and if the number goes down to 1; you have to earn them again. This gives the spellbook more reason to exist AND a reason to farm pages during halloween. Plus those spells you get will be untradable and you can apply them and remove them to anything they work with; this keeps the value of the older spells intact AND you're not forced to have one you don't like. The item with the spell cannot leave your inventory until the spell is removed and it cannot be gifted. However the magic is, the spells only work during halloween... unless you combine it with those free halloween all-day server items that let halloween items appear; which will make it a "Potent Spell" which will work all year round AND this "Potent" status can be applied to halloween limited cosmetics if you have the "Potent Curse Spell". There we go! We brought them back, kept the price of the old ones safe, gave the spellbook more grinding and gave a farm meets reward system that everyone can enjoy!
glad i got out of the spell trading game before everyone hops on because of this video ah, the riches to be had were awesome. made me more profit than unusuals since they stuck a balance between cheap and desirable. the spell discord and helping with price checks was kinda fun. intentionally threw off others for some steal deals sometimes lol
A whole page telling what did you apply to you/ Server Cleaning Strange Unusual Night Terror Scattergun with headless horseman foot prints, voices from bellow, strange part medics killed, strange part soldiers killed, strange part damage dealt, strange part full health kills, description tag(this is longer then my essay) and a secondary description tag (this is the end).
I remember when I first got my spectral spectrum spell, it said it was untradable so I had thought it would turn my cosmetics untradable when applied so... Now I have a pretty spooky ghostly gibus (I also still don't know still if it does)
I would love to see some new spells added, maybe some new footstep colors or some that change the sheen/killstreaker to be multi colored like those spelled paints, or a spell that changes the killstreaker of a pks kit in general
You got me into trading and now after a couple years of on and off im going out. Along the way I made 200 dollars letting me get some stuff I would have never dreamed of. I think this is going to be my last one of your videos so cheers and have a good one.
...God this video makes me depressed. Half because I got scammed out of my entire strange stock of spelled items sans one or two years ago, half because 2013-2014 Scream Fortress was the last time Valve just handed out neat stuff to the community as part of a big celebration. Especially since thanks to the fact that Valve hasn't given any new ways to get spells again, I'm SoL and can't rebuild my collection, which included the likes of Horsemann's Horseshoes. Maybe it's just a sign of how long I've been at this game, but I liked spells because they were functionally the poor mann's unusual. Could only see them part of the time, but in some instances you could apply flash and flair superior to any unusual effect to your entire loadout to turn you into a well coordinated rave light or an eyesore that people focus down because your existence offends their corneas. Heck, if you wanted to you could even spell up your unusuals to spice them up even further, so people with expensive loadouts were far from excluded. Even better, Voices From Below also affects voice pack mods, so there was even indirect interaction on that front. Just... At the end of the day, what I loved about spells was the fact that it was a little like Christmas. You got some fun, inoffensive cosmetic enhancers that practically rained down from the servers like candy and everyone got to enjoy them. But ever since 2015 onward someone at Valve just went 'you know what, our players are moochers. They should PAY for the privilege of cosmetic enhancements' and turned around and made the worst Scream Fortress since the concept's inception with monetization that should have given anyone a spittake, and basically kept it that way ever since. And this coming from an impulse-buying moron who dropped about $300 on a strangifier and a Hotrod professional killstreak kit for the HHHH back when the event was going. Though I guess worst of all for me, is that this video just reminds me that spells have been relegated to expensive flex oddities and that we're not likely to ever see something 2013-2014 tier ever again. Your average player isn't going to get to have the experience of personally making their cosmetics flashy, or shoot pumpkin bombs, or turn their fire green. Not unless the community somehow pushes a new set of spells down Valve's throat.
I actually got a unusual ze goggles with haunted ghosts, voices from below and headless horseshoe a couple years ago and I traded most of my low teir unusuals for it
Spelled items are by far the most interesting items in the game these days. Since you cant get the raw spells anymore, finding the perfect spelled loadout can be a very long and expensive, but fulfilling adventure. I probably spent 4 digits in keys or more on perfected spell loadouts and i regret nothing because i see those items rising in price and popularity on a monthly basis. And yeah i agree: #freespells
There were 3 (2.5?) minor / very specific things you missed. The Ullapool Caber can also have Pumpkin Bombs, it is the only non-Engineer melee weapon that can have it. If the Engineer melee weapon with Pumpkin Bombs is all-class then you can: * Equip the melee weapon on Soldier to get the effect on any Rocket Launcher without needing it applied directly to the Launcher. This allows using it on rocket launcher skins and war paints which were released after Tough Break. It also allows using it on the Rocket Jumper which couldn't have it directly applied, though this only adds the purple smoke trail, it doesn't replace the Jumper's explosion. * Some of the Magic Spells (i.e the Spellbook weapon) are also affected by Pumpkin Bombs so an all-class melee allows to be carried to all classes. Unfortunately, all the all-class melees that can be used for this are either untradable (Saxxy and NecroSmasher), crazy expensive and rare (Golden Frying Pan), or released after Tough Break (Prinny Machete).
I feel like the halloween restriction on cosmetic and spells is there to make halloween/full moons a special thing. If they were allowed all year, it wouldn't be as special. Also: there are a voice spell for each class, voices from below is what you get if you apply that voice spell to a multi-class cosmetic
Wishing I knew 6 years ago what I know from this video now. Fortunately I put my spells on Stranges like my rocket launcher and degreaser. Would have put the purple paint on an unusual had I had it back then instead of my crones dome
Honestly, I'd love to get my hands on a Horseshoes spelled item as well as a Chromatic one. I only recently found out about the paint spells, and the purple spells are just calling to me. Not my fault I like purple so much.
I don't care that it would destroy the Spell market, I just want Spells to return so I don't have to choose between a Spelled weapon and a Halloween War Paint
I don't think enabling Halloween items year round would be a good idea, that would just take away how special the halloween and full moon events feel. It would be like if you put up Christmas decorations year round.
Still need to get some of these. Yeah I don't fully understand trading and price. I tried, back then when I played tf2 a lot more. But I just couldn't understand it. I still need to figure out some day soon.

Spelled unusual weapons exist, they're just tremendously expensive and rare
@@cccarrow I know. Just didn't wanna take any risks myself and figured I could grab em the halloween after which turns out they were removed permanently.
inb4 more artificial price increases due to this video.
But seriously, good video. Does a great job at re-capping all the spells, giving a general idea of each spell's base worth, and about the post-life spells.
thanks SubZero!
well if the price does inflate that means I can sell my exo flamethrowers for more
As a massive spyro fan, i absolutely adore your inclusion of the soundtrack in your videos!
Was definitely interesting to hear about the post-life stuff, I've got an Unusual Anger with an EotL effect and early supporter tag that's double spelled, and never really thought of it as that special. xd
that's an awesome hat!
Thanks so much for this video. I had no clue what spells were but now I know. Great job!
Thanks man!
They need to bring spells back
Just want to say, very well done on the video, fantastic editing in post and I love the ending fade away
Diejob: different shades of yellow-aftereight(black)
Pigmentation:bright green(indubitably green)- darker green- brownish color
Sinister staining: bright green - dark green
Spectral spectrum
Red:orange-yellow-red
Blu: cyan-lightblue-lighterblue
Chromatic corruption:dark purple(noble hatters violet)-to a brighter purple-very bright and vibrant purple same hue as the head of steam unusual effect
Violent violet: hardest to see light pink prints
Bruised purple:hot pink prints similar hue to circling hearts
Corpse gray: light green prints hard to see like Violent violet.
Gangreen: squash yellow similar to pumpkin bombs
HH: same prints as the HHH(blueish purple)
Rotten orange: fire prints
Teamspirit
Red: red prints
Blu:cyan prints
You know, halloween spell being redone would be cool. Not purple bombs, but killstreak sheens with 2 colors and killstreak effects with pumpkins around the eyes
I 100% agree that removing holiday restrictions on items would be awesome! I’d love to wear my Halloween cosmetics year-round, because there are some really cool ones. Having them holiday-restricted kinda makes them feel cheap and honestly I forget to wear them even during full moons/Halloween.
please upload again I miss watching your videos :(
Awesome video ! Your videos are almost making you to want to trade and to keep being in the tf2 trading community. Loved the new style of editing too keep up man !
I used to be a pretty good spell trader! Now I just keep a few spells for myself, spectral spectrum being my favorite.

C'mon Valve, just give the Demoman a double eyepatch as a halloween item...
I still got my fully spelled demo loadout with unusual from back in the day. spectral spectrum. actually most of my most used items in tf2 got spells such as exorcist, pumpkinbomb, voices from the below, footprint and full spell painted loadouts.
This Spyro music is a total throwback 🤤
I still hold hope every year we'll see them return, I'd do anything to add the spectral spectrum spell to a numerous amount of cosmetics and unusuals I have.

I put a Spectral Spectrum on my Mann Co Cap years ago. May sound dumb, but it’s my pride and joy because you can’t trade it so I still have it, and it reminds me of a *way* better time for TF2.

[ Cries in poor financial decision making... ]
Someone was willing to give me an unusual australium rocket launcher for a spell i had and i was like “Oh ThAtS sO mUcH oF a ScAm

I started playing TF2 in 2014 and I didn't ever got the spells, although I wish in this Scream Fortress XII, I want to see this items back, I really want them or at least some of them, also good explanation I really just needed it.
Ps: The only thing I have with a spell is my Strange KS Flare Gun with exorcism(I bought the strange Flare Gun and came with that lol).
getting spells back in the 2020 Halloween update as Advanced or Expert contract awards would be nice.
I think that cosmetics not changing the look of a class too much would be fine.
the Head Honcho, Minotaur Shoulder guard, the Juggernaut torso, Medic's Vampire vestment and K9000 armor, Demo's Werewolf hair and DaveyPirate hat the Fallen Angel wings are a good idea as well, since they are like the Scout's Monarch hench moth wings: nice and not messing up the silhouette much. the Scout hench hood and belt and boots could have a Merc/team colored style to be better.
I think some more cosmetics could be candidates. the Scout's hockey mask/ Face Plante could be all year round with a no blood and blood splatter style, and the L4D hunter set could have a normal variant to the infected variant.
some non obtrusive stuff would be good.
and more I am missing would work.

Always wanted a Glengarry Bonnet with Chromatic Corruption - hoping to find it some day!
@@Sizzyl I appreciate it! For the time being I just hope to find an Aces High Tartan Tyrolean - spells or not.
We miss you!
Lucky.
Ah, I remember being around for the H'ween spells. Still got a few items with the spells on them. Sad part is being unable to accurately price them, cause they're rare, the spell-use item is non-existant, and makes it hard to sell them since people are just like "well THIS is better for THIS reason." lol
if you want to get a price on your items, you should join the spell discord server in the description and ask for a price check!
Interesting to learn this. I’ve had a pair of graymanns for years no and whilst I’d never trade them they have the footprint and die job on them
I was lucky enough to snag a Rotten Orange and Pigmentation Bills hat. Spells really are an amazing part of tf2.
i would love if spells came back, why they removed them at all is beyond me its like removing unusual effects can you imagine.
I've got a video suggestion, that being: Would you be able to make a new unusual effect tier-list guide? Would be helpful for any new incoming traders since the old one is missing a decent amount of effects.
Huh... I guess I got really lucky buying my Strange Flash Fryer battle scared flamethrower from the marketplace as it came with Exorcism on it, Neat!
We brought them back, kept the price of the old ones safe, gave the spellbook more grinding and gave a farm meets reward system that everyone can enjoy!
glad i got out of the spell trading game before everyone hops on because of this video
ah, the riches to be had were awesome. made me more profit than unusuals since they stuck a balance between cheap and desirable.
the spell discord and helping with price checks was kinda fun. intentionally threw off others for some steal deals sometimes lol
It feels so surreal, seeing these halloween spells be considered "rare" nowadays, years later.
Now I have a pretty spooky ghostly gibus
(I also still don't know still if it does)
I would love to see some new spells added, maybe some new footstep colors or some that change the sheen/killstreaker to be multi colored like those spelled paints, or a spell that changes the killstreaker of a pks kit in general
Verry good video, i can see this helping alot of people
You got me into trading and now after a couple years of on and off im going out. Along the way I made 200 dollars letting me get some stuff I would have never dreamed of. I think this is going to be my last one of your videos so cheers and have a good one.
He’s probably making a really high edited video
Sure...
...God this video makes me depressed.
You ever gonna upload again? just subbed.
I actually got a unusual ze goggles with haunted ghosts, voices from below and headless horseshoe a couple years ago and I traded most of my low teir unusuals for it
Wanted to buy myself a festive flare gun. But when I did a week later I realized it had the exorcism spell on it.
If the Engineer melee weapon with Pumpkin Bombs is all-class then you can:
* Equip the melee weapon on Soldier to get the effect on any Rocket Launcher without needing it applied directly to the Launcher.
He also didn't mention the other way to get spells was to combine voodoo cursed parts into a pile of ash and open that.
I wasted my die job and voices from below on my Gibus back in the day, it hurts
This time I will try in the contracts this year so I could get a spell
So that's what those things are. I've heard about in trading but never connected the 2
