They were too busy giving out direct nego government contracts to family and friends. Just check the sports ministry's corruption scandal that's hardly reported in the news media.

There's nothing to be ashamed about. It's honest work. However, I am surprised that there isn't a government program that takes care of excellent sportsmen for life. That has got to change.

Insurance should be provided for sportsman and sportswoman in tiers who contributed to the country.
So if not for his disability he could easily be a squash coach … but still he’s making an honest living. Thank God the owner was kind to give him a job.
Im a 40+ yr old cainis fell on hard times too ... What i hv work hard for the past 20 yrs n lost it all to COVID. Some how i dont see it as a failure ,But i hv come full circle in life.I be learn to put away my ego n pick up whatever i hv left with , savings, dignity and fighting spirit to start over again , not from scratch but from experiences in life. Somehow , Life will always beat you down even when you're down on your knees. My love of my life was diagnosed with stage 4 b.cancer. i accept it as Allah's trial for me and munch on the bitter pills. Today , though i m still in the crisis, im still smiling n kicking . The reason i manages to carry on fighting the battle is simple, I have accepted the truth bcos I hv found Islam .
Other people would have resorted to stealing or other criminal activities.

The way this is reported is as though CLEANING services are not for former sportsmen. What is wrong with cleaning jobs? There are many other SURVIVORS too!

You’re such an inspiration Low to the young generation today. It doesn’t matter if you’re a coach or a cleaner; that’s not important. Most importantly you are healthy and you are able. Prayer for a speedy recovery to you.

it speaks volume about a person's tenacity when he can pick himself up when he falls. Cleaning is a humbling job but it is not shameful, it is honest work and i admire his strength in character to be able to take on a job that is humbling, how many can do like him? most will just complain and not work and wait for donations from others. I think he has at least experienced glory in his life and dont need to think of always basking in glory, but showing strength in other ways. God bless him !

as a national athlete, no pay, no health benefit? socso? he was technically under the employment of Malaysia to participate for the squash rite? ... and he did not get paid monthly back then, why no insurance?

Past malaysian athletes were always under appreciated. Even legends like R Jegathesan and Rabuan Pit were not rewarded handsomely by those men in suit. Luckily they found their fortune through education.
I believe today's athletes are more appreciated and their welfare are properly taken care off. But still a lot of room for improvements.
He still looks good. It is not illegal to work. We should be proud of him to find a way for living. Unlike those who are capable and choose to be homeless.
