So I’m 2 weeks into my first NP job at a rehab/long term care facility. So FAR, it has been nice having flexibility to come in, and go whenever I want (within reason). I have many potentials and easy opportunities for bonuses, my base pay is double my RN salary, I never have to take weekends, holidays, nights, or call. We’re treated to fancy company dinners all the time. I’m also a big trip girlie, and it’s nice being able to afford trips even more. I love the CME money/CME PTO, because that’s a trip every year right there. Going to San Francisco in December. But I’m obviously more stressed now because I’m new and this is a pretty fragile/complex population, and I’m a new NP. I could see myself occasionally bringing home work being so new, but the seasoned NPs rarely bring work home, and if they do, maybe just 1-3 charts. So I guess we’ll see lol. I’ve been a nervous and stressed wreck.
Wow, you make me want to apply! lol It sounds like a great opportunity and an amazing first job. Once the “newness” wears off and you become more accustomed to the patient population and charting, you’ll love it even more! Don’t forget to be patient with yourself.
Your videos are spot on! I’m really satisfied with where I am as a nurse practitioner. Having a solid work-life balance makes all the difference. I’m so grateful for choosing this path. Thanks again for all the amazing videos you produce!
Hi Sara, I've been a tele/pcu nurse for 5 years, almost done with my adult-gero NP program and you saying how much you dreaded going to work as an RN makes me feel better because that is my right now, even working part-time but like I just don't want to do it anymore, I am so done with it. Thank you for great videos and great energy.
Thanks for sharing your experience as an NP. I start FNP school in January. I’m excited about it, but concerned about the transition from bedside nurse to NP. I’m planning to leave the bedside in March after 12 years for all of the reasons that you mentioned. I’m looking forward to more peace and less dreading work. May you continue to be blessed on your NP journey.
@@reneewendym I know that we will do well in FNP school! I think our years of experience as RNs will be helpful for us. Wishing you the very best on your FNP school journey! 😊❤️
Currently at work, shift 4/6 feeling burnt out but needing to keep going. Thank you for making this content, I just hit year 3 in ICU ( year 6 as a nurse) and I'm tired of this bedside thing for sure. I decided to go back to school this year for my RN to MSN and then next year I want to move on to pursing my NP, but I'm trying to decide which one.
@@AndreaGloverBDE this was the exact same way that I felt! I knew that I couldn’t see myself at the bedside for my entire career and I needed a change! Kudos to you for following through on your plan and I wish you all the luck! If I were to do it over again, I’d pick a dual family/acute program
I remember the dread of being in my RN role, but definitely as a FNP that feeling is gone. The transition has been great! Thank you for another awesome video! 👩🏽⚕️
I’m a PA and I agree my life is a lot better. I did vascular US in a hospital prior to this. Work life balance is so much better. I vacation more and have more time with my family.
Great Video! I’ve been a RN for 10 years and became a licensed NP April 2024. I’m currently working a travel contract in Corrections, I’ll be applying this fall and I hope I can find something that gives me that “Soft Nursing life”.
I had a really hard day at work and this helps me get better and this brings back such great memories of when I use to be a 90s kid and an early 2000a kid and I am a new subscriber as well:).
I’m in my FNP program and watching your content. I’m very nervous and feel like there’s so much to learn and know that I feel like i’m just getting by to pass these exams but need to make more time and effort to retain information but feel like idk what to do as far as preparing myself for one day being on my own. Any advice? I’m considering a new grad NP residency program just to gain the confidence and competence as a provider
Passing exams and being a competent NP are 2 different things, so please don’t let that discourage you too much! Have you already started your clinical rotations? I’d say really immerse yourself in clinical and ask as many questions as possible. If you have the time to spare, the NP residency program would definitely give you more experience, so it couldn’t hurt!

It gets better and easier each day! But I’ll be nervous probably for at least a year lol
How much PTO do nurse practitioners receive , they don’t mention anything online ?
@@briannab.8127 it varies by job. I get 15 days, or 3 work weeks
I love your videos. It’s definitely helping me in my decision to go back to school after 21 years of nursing.
I'm so glad! Good luck in your journey & thanks you so much!
