    I absolutely love this video and I hope you make more. My question is do you get training either in the NP school or after to read X-rays and do the vitamin IV. I’m starting FNP school in January. I feel good about most of my skills (I’ve been an RN for 15yrs) but don’t feel confident in X-rays/IV. I also hope you turn all the way up tonight and get your moneys worth from the babysitting. And yes, you’re right about the shoes lol. Return if possible!

    • @accordingtosara5491
      @accordingtosara5491 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In school, we had a short session on X-ray interpretation, but the bulk of what I learned was self taught! TH-cam has been very valuable for that. As far as the vitamin IV infusion, no this was not taught in NP school. I just tapped into my bedside nursing background for that. I worked in the ICU, so I was always starting IVs and mixing fluids. With 15 years of nursing experience, I guarantee there wouldn’t be much of a learning curve for you! And I ended going for drinks after dinner, so I got my money’s worth 😂 And thanks for your honestly about the shoes 🤣

    So I’m 2 weeks into my first NP job at a rehab/long term care facility. So FAR, it has been nice having flexibility to come in, and go whenever I want (within reason). I have many potentials and easy opportunities for bonuses, my base pay is double my RN salary, I never have to take weekends, holidays, nights, or call. We’re treated to fancy company dinners all the time. I’m also a big trip girlie, and it’s nice being able to afford trips even more. I love the CME money/CME PTO, because that’s a trip every year right there. Going to San Francisco in December. But I’m obviously more stressed now because I’m new and this is a pretty fragile/complex population, and I’m a new NP. I could see myself occasionally bringing home work being so new, but the seasoned NPs rarely bring work home, and if they do, maybe just 1-3 charts. So I guess we’ll see lol. I’ve been a nervous and stressed wreck.

    One of my reasons for starting NP school was there needs to be more of US in the field. This is something I’m worried about with starting school. Right now I work a office job as a RN and I’m the only one on my team and it sucks! I’m in a black city and I’m trying to figure out where are all the black NPs! Thank you for making this video!

      Yes, I'm wondering the same thing because they're nowhere to be found at any of my jobs! So glad you're in NP school

    hi sara. black whnp here! my first nurse practitioner job in maternal fetal medicine i was the only black nurse practitioner and it was a very toxic workplace (microagressions, favoritism shown towards the white NPs, etc.). i’m glad i left. my patients were great though, i took care of mostly african american patients my second job in obgyn is so much better as I work with 2 other black advanced practice providers and I love my other coworkers too. they restored my faith in this profession . I take care of mostly hispanic patients and I have only had 3 negative patient interactions during the time that I have worked there

    I needed to hear this today. While I’m not a NP or a nurse, I am the only black in my role and it’s exhausting. Not bc people are bluntly rude but bc they are passively aggressive. But like you said- y’all better have my check!

      Yes, sometimes the passive aggressiveness can be even more frustrating! Hang in there & just know more of us are definitely going through the same struggle

    Hi Sara! Currently a medsurg RN and i've been heavily considering returning back to school to further my career. Torn between CRNA or NP. So grateful for your channel. I think i'm leaning more towards NP!
