- In this video i demonstrate the process of modifiying the variator like ive shown in another video and have talked about before to other navi owners. all you need is a dremel, some dremel bits, and 15-30 mins of time. i saw significant top speed gains when doing this mod from stock and pairing this with other cvt work and pefromance mods can also add even more benifits.
Thank you very much. I plan on doing this mod very soon and your video and description makes it very clear on what to do. I now can move ahead with confidence 😊
No problem, hope it goes well for you. The original variator is better for top speed then aftermarket ones I found.
Good job. That looked pretty clean to me. Better than my effort sometime ago. Might have to try it again next riding season.
ya this was my second time doing it, my first time looked awful but still worked great. sadly there's snow where i live now but it melted. might go for a final top speed run tom to hopefully get proof of my claimed 110kmh
Good little video to help people out
Thank you very much.
dope shit
Thank you!!

thank you!!! I've been too busy to make videos lately :( next planned one is the longer cvt belt which i have just haven't tested or filmed anything.
Question for anyone that know more than me, is there any negative effects to doing this such as damage to the motor or anything like that? Thanks
If done right no, first attempt at this I did much worse and rougher job then in the video and it still worked for thousands of miles until I got a new variator for this video. Basically just keep it even as possible and don’t make it insanely thin other then just maybe the edges of the variator so it doesn’t break when spinning. But I’m now at 7k kms on my Navi and it’s been fine and I’ve ran this mod since nearly new when the Navi first released.
@silas.anderson Thanks, bro scooter swap shop just restocked the s23 variator/ clutch kit, and I think that's my next move.
@@huntboy7038 don't get their kits, its over priced imo. their variator is worse for top speed from testing my hem one and the s23 one i have. for clutch just buy a gy6 1255-150cc clutch and clutch bell and you're good. got my clutch for $50 canadian and im still using the oem clutch bell.
try this mod in the future, its not as hard as it looks and i was super worried the first time i did but even without this mod id say stay with oem or maybe go malossi variator but even then idk if its worth the extra money. i just don't recommend the s23 personally.
Where did you buy the one you modified? Im Willing to try this, but don't want to mess with the oem.
I didn’t buy it, there’s 2 oem ones there both I made. The first one I made way way back when I first got the Navi and way before my TH-cam channel. This video was using a friends oem one as a demonstration.
But trust me it seems scary and daunting but it’s super easy honestly. At worst buy a second oem one straight from Honda to do it on. Just call the local Honda motorcycle place and ask for a variator with a part number or something, it won’t be much I assume. A whole cvt cover for me to make my cvt cut out was like $60 Canadian.
I have heard 120/90-10 tires fit on the rear wheel. About 8% to 10% bigger than stock. That should give you a +10% top speed increase. Having a completely stock bike with your variator mod AND the bigger rear tire should get to 110km/h? Im tempted to buy one and road trip from Kelowna BC to Edmonton AB (1000km trip), if i can get the cruising speed up to at least 100km/h
go look at my walk around video ;) I think I already have that size. might do a 12" rim next but want a cdi first probably and a few other little things ill show off in a very soon video.
What about taking out the washers in the middle? I heard that can work also for top speed.
Which washer? If you’re thinking of like the washer found in like a Yamaha zuma cvt the Navi doesn’t have one.
@@silas.anderson isn’t there washers or spacers that fit into the middle of variator where it meets the drive spline ?
In a oem Navi cvt there won’t be, or shouldn’t be at least. But if there was one yes removing it theoretically should help top speed wise
@@silas.anderson so if you keep the variator stock, don’t grind it, use a mix of 10 gram 13 gram sliders , do you think it would give you the gains in top speed? What about using an S23 variator with slider weights ?
S23 variator is not good. all my testing I did with it, and it just barely could break 97kmh on the dash at best.
Also I’m running modified variator and 11g sliders, no issues or anything and it works amazingly.
And I just mean there’s no washer at all in the cvt when it’s stock, maybe if it’s a used one and someone shimmed it before but I don’t recall a washer at all in the whole cvt system on the 3 Navis I’ve worked on. Only time there was washers was with a s23 variator or me installing one or two for testing only
Does this apply to sliders as well or just rollers?
I didn’t test the difference for sliders vs rollers as I don’t have the proper roller weights to match the sliders I have.
But I do run sliders with the mod and have since the Navi first released almost and I’ve had zero issues ever with it.
