    I bet Alabama's lawmakers didn't even debate as much and as eloquent as this when passing the new law.

      They literally had 15 minutes of prep time to write these speeches, crazy how ministers can't even have these debates with 15 years of trial and error

    The best thing about this is Opening Opp ran the hardcore zombie case and won (albeit closely), and deservedly.

    After just watching Opening Government,it reminds me how badly conservative politicians argue against abortion. Republicans are thinking about dropping the issue entirely. Watching this reminds me that there are indeed good arguments to be made against abortion.
    But Deputy Opp was very, very good.

    • @asifimgoingtotryando
      @asifimgoingtotryando 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dropping the issue WOULD be smart, strategically. Let the T Partiers have these fringe issues, and make the republican party more about autonomy, taxes, capitalism, English and some other goals that aren't so exclusive. Shunning people who would otherwise support a party is not really an affordable option these days, is it? Personally, I think we have to separate ID from Republicans, too. There are plenty of less divisive issues to campaign on.

      wasn't 2 gov right when they said that opp didn't prove that motherhood is the moral equivalent of death?

    • @SpicyTunaCakes
      @SpicyTunaCakes 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@marabarbra4881 its not that they werent right its that opp just weighed it better. CG provided really good analyses on value of life but IMO the LO was great at describing why theres always exceptions to ending life and DLO nailed it weighing that by creating one life you are ending the chances at fully actualizing your own. Additionally, when it came down to impacts, the DLO just did so well, it was hard to overcome the burden he set.

      in 2009, abortion (and especially in Ireland) was considered realtively unpopular, I think majority was still against, so in the context of the times and the hosting school it made more sense im sure.

    Will’s argument about the law not stopping abortion is actually the crux. This need not be about the moral stance, but the social consequences about legalisation. For me, this was insurmountable and incredibly nuanced.

    Wouldn't abandoning your child up for adoption also be as cruel as killing an unfeeling fetus?

    • @joemcdermott6065
      @joemcdermott6065 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      How ? Many adopted children live happy lives. If you go and ask an adopted child as to whether they are happy they were not aborted I reckon you could guess the answer.

      You really don't understand the value of life. If you are an orphan in the United States, you are living better than 99 percent of human history

    • @mayattv4986
      @mayattv4986 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Abandoning and adopting shouldn't be on the same sentence, and even incorporating *KILLING* in the same sentence to it is unacceptable. With the premise of your own words, it is implied that it is cruel if someone is adopted, regardless if they live a happy and fruitful life. How dare you compare it to preventing the natural course of human life and development.

      +Yeehuan Gan he was basically saying there exceptions to every rule made and there are extreme cases where an act that can be seen as vile as murder is justified and acceptable, for example in the cases of self defense. you have killed someone but it was to save your own life, just as if the fetus is going to harm the mother she can kill it
