If the 24-hour sub-dial offered a second time zone, like a GMT function, that would be an awesome feature, in my opinion.

I don’t remember seeing a watch with a 24hr sundial that’s independent from the main time function but that would be cool

Great review. I own the Q GMT, a manual Marlin, and an Expedition with Indiglo. Point being, Timex has a place in anyone’s collection. This one looks good, but the deal breaker for me is the thickness. I feel that was a miss by Timex.

I get you, the domed crystal is for sure adding a lot of that height. But it’s just one of those things where maybe it’s not a watch you wear with long sleeves

I still think one of their best watches is the American Documents watch. It constantly goes on sale these days so you can probably get it for $350 or even less. And it's genuinely the only mass market watch available truly made all (except movement) in the USA. That alone should be worth hundreds more dollars than they charge.

Cool watch that I didn't know existed. Thank you for sharing it. If they only could have killed that silly little date window crowding the 3 index. I tried to convince myself that it added some counter balance for the 24 hour sub dial, but I still don't care for it.

Come on Timex. Step up the QC, and give us sapphire and a 9000 series Miyota. For the same price. You can do it, and you’d sell a ton of watches.

Oh wow, when you start pairing the watch with interesting straps, like the tweed and the Has No Bounds, it really looks great, and this makes me wonder if there isn't a big opportunity for vintage style watches offered with a range of straps and marketed with some retail partners like Urban Outfitters or Abercrombie. I mean, I don't think this stuff has caught on with the broad middle/upper middle class public in the way that it could. There are a ton of undercapitalized microbrands focused on enthusiasts and then you've got Casio and Timex and Seiko whose marketing and focus are all over the place & who are so big that a focused vintage-inspired niche thing barely moves the needle. Nixon is stuck on the Regulus. It would seem like a well-capitalized start-up working closely w a Chinese partner & some better retailers--if any still exist--could create a successful brand. Swapping various straps and bracelets really makes it fun & stylish.

@@theknightswatch I don't think that I thought about how radically different interesting straps can make the watch till I saw your video. I hadn't thought of a plaid or tweed or distressed vintage.

  • @homeboi4159

This watch is pretty lukewarm in all honesty. I was expecting more experimentation from Timex, like what they did with the first 34mm marlin. Handwound, modest case size, vintage styling with the dial and the art-deco-ish numerals. Am I wrong for expecting more from them? I mean, they're a big company with a massive history. I'm sure they have tons of models they can revive from their catalogue, or at least look back at and experiment with. With that said, I do like the case or at least the direction they were going with. However, it is a stark contrast to what the dial and the rest of the watch is. Great review by the way!
