After I got married and we had children and when the demands of life get difficult, I think of this episode and remember that what I do and go through, I do it for them. A true gem of an episode.
Dont act like you are poor, having a girlfriend, makes you guys save up the money. Since you get double the allowance you save more. do that for 5 years then having a baby wont harm a thing. Why are you guys acting like its some struggle when you guys just played it out.
Marriage is a mutual submission between man and woman, both surrendering to God to create something far more valuable than they could've accomplish on their own. As much as modernity hates traditional gender roles, they are there because we have evolved for humdreds of thousands of years to get here. Again, mutual submission: Wife surrenders to husband, husband surrenders to wife, and both surrender to the greatness they have created together. So indeed, you're doing it for them, and that's a very admirable thing to do in a world that seems to hate love and family and instead try to replace them with lust amd selfishness. _Hug them today, as soon as you can._
Probably the #1 ending in the history of this show... this and when Homer's mom leaves and Homer just sits and stares at the stars reflecting on life. Boy they sure don't write The Simpsons like they used to.
Absolutely agreed! The main reason i love the first 12 Seasons of Simpsons the most. The others and newest are fine but, they just lack this personal and emotional touch in my opinion, still enjoyable at least. But after so many episodes it is natural that they try their best to do original moments and the more they do the more harder it gets so there is that. Not to mention the staff might have changed through the years too.
As a father this really pulls at me. When you're working 80 hours a week doing something you hate and carrying so much weight on your shoulders you feel like you're going to snap but then you see your little girl you know you have to carry on, for her sake. I just keep praying that if I do my job right she won't have to struggle like this.
Thats what you get for being a sucker in life and only listen to what the vagina says. You are just some slave boy to your wife to do all the errands. while she is relaxing and enjoying life with little to no effort. And when she sees you struggle, then there comes a time where she spreads her legs once or twice to make you happy.
That's what I though!!! Homer is every normal, simple, good father in the world: he might be ignorant and stupid, but he would give everything he has for his family. The same with every other character of the Simpsons: Marge is every normal good mother, Bart, Lisa, the neighbours...
This is why I like Simpsons a lot more than Family Guy, it has meaningful episode like this. Homer is the lovable beer drinking buffoonish dad but he would do anything for his family, even Bart. Peter is just a childish selfish asshole.
Stoneman180190 only new family guy is like that. Pretty much before seasons 6 Peter cares about his family. It only went this way because fox was greedy. Family Guy was intended to end at season 7.
Peter was originally very much like that. I like to see it this way. Peter started off as a watered down version of Homer, while Homer ended up as a watered down version of Peter.
I like to think that Peter does something similar for Meg. He may never admit it, but I think he really does love her. "Hey dad, do you keep pictures of me?" "Don't speak of such nonsense Meg, I burned them all, they were giving me nightmares." But he keeps all his pictures of her at work in his office.
I'm sure it's "was", now. Especially since both looked like the same level of suck after that crossever episode. But agreed, the old Homer was infinitely better than the fat load from the Seth McFarlane mistake.
That was surprisingly generous of Mr. Burns. If he really wanted to hurt Homer, all he'd have to tell him is that he's not getting his old job back. I mean, Homer literally burned a bridge when he quit.
Slashbash actually it's pretty dam genius of burns to give him his job back. homer is the safety inspector. if something goes wrong and it gets taken to court burns will have a easier time getting homer to take the fall than anyone else. hiring a man who knows what's he's doing and something does go wrong he could turn the tides on burns and make him rot in jail. but homer he'll do whatever will benefit him or his family. meaning if he can get a plea bargain after accidentally nuking springfield he'll do it. some other chap will do everything in their power to get off scott free.
This proves that the Simpsons, were, are and always will be better than Family guy. Family guy does have its funny moments. But the Simpsons can make you laugh, cry and still show a really good storyline. The Simpsons will always be better than Family guy. NO MATTER WHAT !!!
Family Guy has had very emotional moments. Like when Meg finally stood up to her family in Seahorse Seashell Party, when Quagmire finds out his sister is physically abused by her husband in Screams of Silence, and when when Brian admits to being suicidal when he tells Stewie why he has a gun in his safe in Brian and Stewie. Although I admit that The Simpsons has had more emotional moments, I think that saying Family Guy didn't have any is unreasonable.
My 3 year old daughter is like my little Maggie Simpson. The moment I saw my baby girl being born (I was really fascinated, like, every detail) I knew that my life would change forever, for the better. My daughter is my saving grace, she has given me a new sense of purpose, to carry on carrying on, because to see her smile just makes it all worth the effort.

Jaime Holguin I meant your "take that feminazis" comment. Men and women have to work and make sacrifices for their families lmao. What is true is the fact that patriarchy gives men the role of "money providers" for their families, which is also an issue feminism wants to change, that's why your comment didn't make sense
Huffly Feminazis don't acknowledge anything men do and take it for granted, they say we have an easy time, that women are the only ones suffering, that's why I said take that feminazis.

Also NOT how acid rain works xD my god be terrifying, rem as kid actually scared crap outa me until my dad had explain what really was etc ie like it’s bad but not burning jacket off your back lol Just jokes tho, real drama is Homer’s existential crisis not specifics of power plant works at. At first i thought the same, but as most scenes in the powerplant are played for laughs anyway, i think it's appropriate to have it there for this emotional scene and don't have it there in unfitting scenes afterwards.
@@juliansommer8600 since this is a flashback, that would mean this is before homer became safety inspector. It wasn't until the episode homers odyssey when he became safety inspector, and (probably) changed offices. I'm not sure though, I could be entirely wrong
Every family man can relate to this one way or another....you’d sacrifice anything (whether it’s a fun job, hobby, or item) to support your family but it still hits you hard that you have to sacrifice something in the first place because you cannot sufficiently provide...but it’s worth it coming home after a hard day and seeing your motivation
My favourite scene in all of tv this should be shown in school as a. Example as what most parents do for there kids as a dad now this episode hits me so hard
This picture is what got me going every day as I had to go back to school when i got laid off and couldn't get anything that would support my new born...and to this day afterwards as i deal with the daily stuff of work i always rems to do it for her and i have the picture still in a place where i can see it and just keep going
there’s plenty of simpsons episodes with an emotional ending but this is the only one i can think of that makes me openly sob every time i see it. as much credit goes to the writers and animators for coming up with such a poignant image, i think danny elfman deserves some recognition for creating such an appropriately sweet and sentimental reprise of the theme song for this moment.
Nobody really seems to comment on the plot hole this episode established. In “Homers Odyssey” (Season 1 episode 3) it is shown homer doesn’t work in sector 7-G yet and is put in that position at the end of the episode. Yet in this flashback episode he is shown to already be working there
"Do It For Her." One of my all time favorite Simpsons episodes.

Enough to make a grown man cry 🙂
Despite the dramatic tone nuclear power is very clean
Really get acid rain if was a coal plant, yup, but was scare in 80’s/early 90’s along with deep public misunderstanding and fear of recent events like Chernobyl. Also NOT how acid rain works xD my god be terrifying, rem as kid actually scared crap outa me until my dad had explain what really was etc ie like it’s bad but not burning jacket off your back lol
Just jokes tho, real drama is Homer’s existential crisis not specifics of power plant works at.
Guess least not like Joe, anal probe factory be a real bummer to work at. (Joe vs Volcano very similar thematically as well as song movie features “Company Store”, of entire generations of blue collar Americans like Homer in dead end industrial jobs.
The details are wrong, but the feels are 100%.
That was... so touching... 😊
one of the most eye watering endings from the show.
pretty much reflects the situation on hard working fathers who support their families
“Do it for her”, indeed! 👍
That ending would've been so much better if they actually kept that all the way through the show, instead of removing it right after
At first i thought the same, but as most scenes in the powerplant are played for laughs anyway, i think it's appropriate to have it there for this emotional scene and don't have it there in unfitting scenes afterwards.
"Don't forget. You're here forever." - Mr. Burns.
Ahhhhhh back when the Simpsons was pure class... sadly those days are long long gone
Why does the ending always make me cry
My favourite scene in all of tv this should be shown in school as a. Example as what most parents do for there kids as a dad now this episode hits me so hard
This picture is what got me going every day as I had to go back to school when i got laid off and couldn't get anything that would support my new born...and to this day afterwards as i deal with the daily stuff of work i always rems to do it for her and i have the picture still in a place where i can see it and just keep going
I like how the acid rain inexplicably only damages the sweater he liked but not his shirt or pants
One of the few Simpsons moments that make me tear up every time.
Freakin allergy season
there’s plenty of simpsons episodes with an emotional ending but this is the only one i can think of that makes me openly sob every time i see it. as much credit goes to the writers and animators for coming up with such a poignant image, i think danny elfman deserves some recognition for creating such an appropriately sweet and sentimental reprise of the theme song for this moment.
Nobody really seems to comment on the plot hole this episode established. In “Homers Odyssey” (Season 1 episode 3) it is shown homer doesn’t work in sector 7-G yet and is put in that position at the end of the episode. Yet in this flashback episode he is shown to already be working there
You know, for *years* I didn't realize he positioned the pictures so that it read "do it for her."
Who the frick left this bowl of onions here?!
Even if it does involve giving up his dream job at the bowling alley, it's good to know Homer still has his moments of doing what's right.
Come crawling back eh?
the classy thing would be not to draw attention to it
It's sweet and then you remember Homer spends most of his day napping and eating donuts. Doesn't sound like that bad of a gig...
This is what I thought of when I got my first job...
Makes me cry everytime, so sweet
Am I the only one that found 0:13 heartbreaking :(
