Sad to learn of the death of Alan Lancaster - who had been unwell for many years. Alan penned this classic Quo song with Rick P. Great bassist, singer and songwriter.
Nothing beats Quo :) Especially in the ultimate line up: Rick, Alan, John and Francis. Together these 4 guys were magic and wrote numorous classic albums and songs.
Gosh ive been a quo fan since 1974 coming down from Papua New Guinea,,i am a Aussie by birth,,,ever since Alan Left,,,i truly miss his vocals, personality, bass playing,,he was treated unfairly,,but after the Back 2 Back album (WORST ALBUM) He was brokenhearted and i dont blame him, The real Quo was the seventies,,,his songs are classics like Backwater,High Flyer,Juniors Wailing,Is there a better way, over and done,is it really me,Blue for you and etc ,,,bless you Alan Lancaster and family Dougie from Dowerin Western Australia
BACKWATER is the best Quo song imo ..Recently, I saw them playing in Toulouse, but they didn 't sung it; True that ' s Alan Lancaster voice that wld have been missing
personally i prefer lancaster to rhino because i aint a big fan of alot of quos new stuff bt the albums like piledriver and quo was the stuff im into bt i aint gonna argue with peoples opinions.u like wat u like full stop!!!!!
Great vocals by hero Alan Lancastor. I love Francis' chromatic solo starting at 3:09 - now I understand where Andy Sumner got his inspiration from when played similar solo's in 1978 with the Police!
He was fantastic,,,UNDERRATED bass player and singer,,,,HIGH FLYER,Shouldve been released as a single from the Whatever you want album,,,also Who asked you is a ripper song, but Rossi took that as well as Old Rag Blues which Alans version was better,,nothing against Rossi Dougie Maxwell Dowerin Western Australia
whats stopping Francis and Rick from releasing Live Alive Quo on DVD as well some shows from the 80's like this show and NEC or do they know it will sell more then their current albums and dvds. Or does it come down to Alan?
Quo without Alan Lancaster and John Coghlan were never the same, and now Rick has passed on. I think it’s time they called it a day, coz the current quo set up I don’t like it’s a joke with that dopey rhino!! RIP Rick keep rocking in heaven you legend.
Jasus, that was neither today nor yesterday. From the size of Rossi's 'burns, and the fact that it appears to be Pete and not Coghlan on drums, it must be some time between 1980 and 1984. This is one of their best songs. Never noticed it before but Lancaster sounds like Robin Zander from Cheap Trick.
rossi refused to work with nuff anymore because he wanted to broaden quos music more whereas nuff wanted quo to stay heavy.nuff hated margurita time whereas rossi loved it.cue major musical differences!rossi said thats it after end of road tour.the wanderer was the last single with lancaster
it's so crazy how many people show up at their concerts, yet they aren't as popular as today bands which aren't really that great. i would really hate to be in the very back at this concert. love quo!
Caroline Hild This is from Milton Keynes bowl so being at the back was an advantage. Plenty of fires about in the later stages of the night so good place to keep warm as well.
i agree, and to be honest, when they bought out rockin all over the world, and became the "granny's darlings" is when they killed it for me !!,up to on the level and maybe blue for you, i thought they were great.
Saw them live in the 70s 3 or 4 times. Met Coghlan, nice guy! this is the classic line up with a classic track. I, too, never knew why they never cracked the states when Foghat did. Funny old world!
Its the easy way out for all concerned to be stubborn and not to reunite. It says a lot more about your character if you are willing to set your stubborness aside and to give at the least the people /fans that made you a multi millionaire what they would love to see: the frantic four ,with andy bown of course also there, reunited. Greatest band ever by the way. A unique sound. No match on these guys !
With Coghlan, the line up was certainly the classic lineup and produced some of their best stuff. I doubt whether he was their best drummer technically. I once met him at a Land Rover event (he was into Land Rovers) and I was dissapointed as I thought he was quite a dull person.
Love The Quo, always have, always will, but is it just me or does Alan Lancaster look very much like Derek Smalls here? Or did Christopher Guest originally base that character on Alan Lancaster?
iim from the us n love the que they r true rock n roll my dad loves them n moterhead budgie ufo thin lizzy uriah heep n every thing else remember rory gallager good irish gtr player love europe usa invented rock n roll and the uk and the rest of europe took it to the next level hell ya god love status quo
It's so nice to see Alan Lancaster by the microphon. They was and are a great group. Whit John Coughland playing the drums ( not here) and the original members they were the best.
It was Milton Keynes 84,last gig of the end of the road tour.Thank god i was there to witness the rossi, parfitt, lancaster combo for the last time!great day...
great to hear this again. 1 of their best from 1 of their best albums.got em all upto rockin all over the world when i reccon that was the begginig of the end of em being a rock band
Classic Quo track - they're still class live. Saw em last year 26 years on from when I first saw em and took my 16 year old daughter and she even thought they were good!! However that ain't JC on drums it's Pete Kircher :-)
Sad to learn of the death of Alan Lancaster - who had been unwell for many years.

Great bassist, singer and songwriter.
its easy to forget how bloody good they were. Alan, we miss you.
RIP Alan Lancaster. Masterclass.
Nothing beats Quo :)
Especially in the ultimate line up: Rick, Alan, John and Francis. Together these 4 guys were magic and wrote numorous classic albums and songs.
Best brit band ever, took my 14 year old daughter to see them, she didnt want to go but now plays quo constantly. FANTASTIC!!!
Brilliant stuff.
There's nothing quite like rocking to the magnificent Status Quo
Gosh ive been a quo fan since 1974 coming down from Papua New Guinea,,i am a Aussie by birth,,,ever since Alan Left,,,i truly miss his vocals, personality, bass playing,,he was treated unfairly,,but after the Back 2 Back album (WORST ALBUM) He was brokenhearted and i dont blame him,

Been a Status Quo fan since 1973!!!
old line up was the best, never the same when Lancaster & Coghlan left
BACKWATER is the best Quo song imo ..Recently, I saw them playing in Toulouse, but they didn 't sung it; True that ' s Alan Lancaster voice that wld have been missing

Were a great band in the 70,s
One of my favourite Quo songs, especially this video.
C'MON THE QUO!
Anyone know which year this performance is from? Doesn't look like John Coghlan on drums.

if it was just for this hearbreaking solo status quo deserves their seat in rock'n'roll heaven ::::
i agree, and to be honest, when they bought out rockin all over the world, and became the "granny's darlings" is when they killed it for me !!,up to on the level and maybe blue for you, i thought they were great.
oh no they dint they were still gr8 after they left and r still gr8 today. i see em last friday and they still rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrock!!!!!!!!!
the best Lancaster song ever
Pile driver,,What a Fucking Great Album..Thanks Guys!!!!!!
Dont agree with that Pete Kircher was very good but he was no John Coghlan or their current drummer Matt Letley
@aburrows2008 its not down to alan,he was not the one who shit on the others,it was the other way round
it was such a poxy reason why he left. same with spud as well.band lost the edge when these two left
i love this song,i thought quo were stupid loosing lancaster,he was an awsome singer and songwriter.
they were never going to be strong song wise after nuff left.lost to good a song writer and singer
must be the best quo song ever,
I was part of the crowd for the 1977 Live album, recorded at the old Glasgow Apollo
Best rock band ever. Best straight forward song ever....
You can't beat a bit of Quo!
Today Rhino sings Backwater... :(
Love the melodic solo around 3.10
It all began going downhill when Rossi started losing his hair..
