Matchstick Men was the only song I "knew" from them until I stumbled across their cover of "Rave On" about two months ago. How could I have missed all this???
I just wish that SQ could have come to the States and to have been more successful in terms of record sales here too. One of the best Boogie-Woogie Bands ever. Looking back on Live Aid I don't know how their appearance didn't ring some bells here in the states. I was working on that Summer Day for Radio Shack so I would have missed their Live Performance. I just discovered them shortly before Rick had to leave the band because of his heart problems. What an Awesome band. Did they get much air time on MTV in the 1980's. I can't recall seeing them. I missed a lot of things between 1982-1986. I was working a full-time job and taking 12 class hours a semester at Grad School.
When this came out originally in April '75, Francis and the lads must have woken up and screamed "feck...how did we let this one get away". Nice version from Rick...IH would be pleased. Bravo.
Now that would be a real dream job, only thing better would be to share the drumming with Jeff. With Jeff in the seat those drums took on a life of their own ! This track is the REAL Quo and perfect for Rick, who could deliver any track with that great voice of his. R.I.P Rick, we will never forget you belting out Caroline, and so many other tracks like only you could. You really were one of a kind.
The best, but unfortunately also the most underrated band of all time. A cover played by SQ always sounds better than the original. Rick's voice is so incredibly good for these kind of songs.
It's very hard to know if Rossi is genuine when he says that he doesn't like the Covers albums RIFFS and FITLCentury. They do excellent quality versions of every song on those 2 albums, plus all the songs they selected for the albums are personal favourites of mine. The musicianship and the vocals are superb and very professional. Graham Parker's "Crawling from the Wreckage" is executed brilliantly. It's ironic that Rossi likes the disgusting and revolting "Marguerita Time" though.
Very good version. Quo did not try to copy Hunters version (that would not be possible) but they made it their own with that rocking class of theirs. Parfitt's singing is great.

I saw Mott 3x front row each time - totally loved that band. I loved "Pictures of Matchstick Men" by SQ, very nice early pop psychedelic tune, but this is a good cover, IMO...
wow! smokin! That telecaster is so beat up - looks totally cool. Love the Marshalls, and those cabs - talk about speaker city! Great cover - thanks for posting
I prefer this to Hunter's original. Quo strip it back a notch and bring their wonderful rhythm to this. That was always their strength. Rick does a good job on vocals here too.
Best version I've ever heard, except Great White. There's no replacing Jack Russel's killer voice. But I'd listen to this one and be happy any old day...!
If it's still his old tele, it was originally black, but he painted the front green (never got round to painting the back). There is also a hole drilled through the body to deter thieves.
I say, aprovadimorte, you have to look back a little further than Great White for this one. It comes from the pen of Ian Hunter, formerly the driving force behind Mott The Hoople, who recorded it in 1975. Substitute B5K6-Kbr1LQ for the v= link at the top of this page and you go straight to it. Even beats the Quo version.
Just a great rocking song for a cover,,,,but the worst is Shaun Cassidy,,,long live Quo and thanks to Ian Hunter ,,,,Dougie Maxwell ,,,,, DOWERIN WESTERN AUSTRALIA
This is Ian Hunter's first song, a monument which has been covered by many bands, and sung by Bowie himself (who was a fan of Mott the Hoople, Hunter's band !). Ian Hunter is not known (even not a personal page in Wiki !) but a great writer, musician and singer. His original performance -with Mick Ronson- is on TH-cam too.
Double fail. Ian Hunter wrote and recorded this in 1975 for his debut solo album. The Hoople split in 1974 so this was NEVER performed by Mott the Hoople.
A great cover, great sound and as usual, Rick's vocals (R.I.P. Rick). th-cam.com/video/lk1g8aFfpko/w-d-xo.html is Rhino trying to sing it, he can play but a shame with the voice.
Good cover, better than The Great White version which is 90's hair band fluff but the original 75 Ian Hunter version with the late great Mick Ronson(Spiders From Mars) on lead guitar still stands head & shoulders above the rest !!!
Rick Parfitt is a Rock n Roll Super Star. When I listen to Status Quo I always feel 30 years younger. RIP Rick!
You said it Vern old boy !!👍👅

You just want to dance wherever you hear them.
Quo could play anything for covers no better band just class

Elisabeth wow 11 years ago you wrote this. G'day from Australia 11 years later
When this came out originally in April '75, Francis and the lads must have woken up and screamed "feck...how did we let this one get away". Nice version from Rick...IH would be pleased. Bravo.
So glad I ran across this vid, haven't heard that song in many years, outstanding...

One of the best of Quo, great song!

Great choice for a cover. Enjoyed it.
quo for ever love it

They're all false. Sound coming from ac 30 and marshall head.
Love this song
GREAT version of a great Ian Hunter song!
i totally agree mate we just enjoy the music thats what its all about. fun fun fun not a competition
nice cover of Ian's great song!!!
Haven't found any other version of this that I like better. These guys are great!
I would love to be the drummer for quo
Keep rocking boys
STATUS QUO ROCKS!!!!!!
Rick el mejor hard rock🎸👏👏🇬🇧🎩
Great Cover..
I prefer this to Hunter's original. Quo strip it back a notch and bring their wonderful rhythm to this. That was always their strength. Rick does a good job on vocals here too.
Good arrangement!
Great, great, great, and, please note the lyrics, hahaha! Won`t never miss that time!!!!
Love Quo rock on boys
wow.... this is as good as Great White. Outstanding.
Almost as good as the original by writer Ian Hunter and guitarist Mick Ronson
@@rsmccrumb yep - BUT - Great White video has spectacular Rock Sluts. I love Rock Sluts.

LO, Francis played part of the the solo from the end of "Blue eyed lady" during the solo break in this song, :).
Nice.

Rick is to rhythm what Jimi is to lead.
Another song I hear for the 1st time
love Staus Quo .but this Ian Hunter does best!!!!
nobody beats hunter doing it but that's a cracking cover
@@leo1314ok BETTER than Great Shite's! The Angels do a good version tho!
What good fun!
I think it's funny when people go on about what's good/better/best. Just enjoy it and stop worrying about it. "It's only rock 'n roll!"
HOT!!!
No. It's from Hunter's first solo album - 'Ian Hunter'. 'Schizophrenic' came later...
Pantermime quo at their best!
If it's still his old tele, it was originally black, but he painted the front green (never got round to painting the back). There is also a hole drilled through the body to deter thieves.
damnn they all do actually;-)

I like this song better than the one from Great White . . .
En la version de Great White la fusion entre el piano y el requinto la hacen insuperable.
No jodas...
if ya wanna hear a great version of this ..type in the angels
Good Cover...But Guitar solo not a patch on MICK RONSON'S!
Was that even a solo, lol?

well, that was uneexpected, Quo doing MTH am I dreaming ?
listen to Ronson/Hunter then decide which is the best version
Personally prefer Great Whites cover, but this is still a strong cover.

That bassist got lucky.

@hongandian12 I still like this version best . . .
I didn't know Ian Hunter version. I just listened to it. I prefer Status Quo one
Seriously?
Listen to Ian's a few more times. This is actually lamified.
Nobody strums like Francis...
@aprovadimorte not lan hunter is original great white did cover so did status quo
The Angels cover shits on this!
Ian hunter wrote it and sang it first.1975.
Rick's vocal is quite up to this song
Great performance! I like the original, by Ian Hunter better, but at least Status Quo did it justice, unlike Great White!
Ian Hunter song .
Once the original or twice the cover,babe...
A great cover, great sound and as usual, Rick's vocals (R.I.P. Rick).
th-cam.com/video/lk1g8aFfpko/w-d-xo.html is Rhino trying to sing it, he can play but a shame with the voice.

Had the backing been better (Lancaster, Coghlan), it could've been good, but Great White is better than this, i'm afraid
Did Quo have to learn another chord for this? They nearly got all the lyrics right too!
Hmm - seem to have used the lyrics from Great White's version, not Ian Hunters.
