Umm, it wasn't serious music at all. Serious music is Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Doors, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Moody Blues, Deep Purple, David Bowie, Queen, Free etc etc. This is NOT serious musicianship - but I do like it nevertheless.
@@williamwallace5857 I can see what Duncan means - it's actually really well played. It's not easy to play rock with a funkiness and bounce as mud did - many have tried and failed. They were very experienced musicians by the time they hit the charts and were seriously good at it.
You're so right this is music you can hear the words crazy dance moves and so much fun in the severe ties shame there's no such nmussic these day bring back the super seventies much better then x factor or the like
Mud were the first band I ever saw in concert in 1974 in the Ulster Hall in Belfast. In those days nobody else came. As Les Gray said delighted to be here. Great show.
I was 18 in -74, and was partying every weekend, and sometimes in the middle of the week, and Mud was played for all it was worth. It was a happy time, no worries.

The early 70's when pop music was sheer fun. charts dominated by bands like Mud, Sweet, 10cc, T-Rex, Bowie, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Suzi Quatro, Alvin Stardust, Gary Glitter [BEFORE we knew] The Glitter Band, Showaddywaddy and the mighty SLADE! ALL of them looking like they were genuinely having fun and enjoying themselves unlike now and they could ALL play! Such a shame we can't go back. You Tube is a god send in these matters!
@kevin locklin Yeah, I listed 'actual' gigging for years before getting a contract bands and artists that could PLAY not manufactured boy bands that had session musicians record their tracks as they could barely play their instruments.
mud rocks,, i was a teenager in the 70s and bought a lot of mud records , still got most of them to be honest . the world needs more fun bands like mud.. rock on ,
loved them great to hear this again I still have most of their singles must find them and play them again. Glam period was my favourite period in music
This was my first song i bought from Mud. I remember when my older sister heard this song when i was playing it on my record player. She thought I was crazy listening to this music. bud, i don't care i just loved this song. :)
You're not half right! You're are spot on! These guys enjoyed what they did! ENTERTAINERS AND MUSICIANS in one! It's human nature to put someone down when they are at the top of their game!
So having an opinion that is not the same as yours automatically is "being negative".... Great. That's a bit like those folks that immediately assume people are racist, because they don't like rap. Same odd reasoning...
This was the time when even big name bands toured and played what would now be considered tiny venues, I remember going to a dance where MUD were the band, they were fantastic, no one was sitting down.
Total feel good music what a great decade the seventies was the glam the fun the music so many great bands to choose from unlike today's rubbish total boring crap
Good band. Rockin'. I've liked Mud since summer 73 when i witnessed them on TOTP singing "Hypnosis". And hypnotized i was. Really. That was my first trip to England by the way ( Bishop Stortford and Frinton on sea)). There was also Slade ("skweeze mee") and Suzi Quatro...Wow...Loud, exciting, well sung, well written, good sounding anglo-american pop rock&roll...With a touch, maybe, of British music-hall outré kitsch (?!!!!!!) ... And Bubblegum of course... Let us not forget Messieurs Chinn and Chapman, the glorious songsters. A formula they had? well probably... so ? Just the proof they had a ( instantly recognizable) style to start with and that's what matters, innit ? Catchy, absurd, funny lyrics, clever efficient hooks, driving beats, good grooves, fine players...A bit like Leiber & Stoller (faves of mine actually)...
From @NigelCutteridge (aka 'Angel Nigel' 😇) Back in the Nineties, whilst a BBC RADIO ONE PRODUCER, I interviewed LES GRAY shortly before he passed away. He always preferred this song to 'TIGER FEET' ... but he wittily observed that, in AUTOMOBILE terms, it was similar to comparing a ROLLS-ROYCE with a BENTLEY ~ or a PORSCHE with a FERRARI! R.I.P. my dear friend ... 💘💘💝💝🙏🙏
The greatest fun band in history. My cousn was 9 years older than me and i listened to his record collection and loved it. Mud, Slade, The Sweet. Fantastic !!
I still remember many happy days playing around the tip when this was at number one - found an old cast iron money box in the image of a black gentleman - my dad still has it and one day I have it back!!
Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn were writing songs like this in their sleep back in 1974 ... but Mud were a great fun band. RIP Les ... your sadly missed.
Great Music! Treasure them! When, and if, the next generation really starts to appreciate music, not just noise, you'll be sitting on a gold mine!!! Cheers Karen
Nicky chinn and mike chapman with another superb ,incredibly written and produced song . Great mud .Sweet .Suzy quattro fan (along with other artists chinn /chapman wrote for .The 70's WHAT a DECADE for music
I saw mud around 1984 in a tiny rural Somerset club with a capacity of about 500 .well there was at least 3 times that there.packed.the band came on all original.god les was in a bad way.hed lost so much weight.but after saying that what a show.i will never forget it.god bless les and dave .never forgotten
You don't hear class like this on X-Factor , this was fun but serious music. Give me a time machine . Who's with me ?👍🏼😃
Dr. Who herself...

Mud were the first band I ever saw in concert in 1974 in the Ulster Hall in Belfast.

As Les Gray said delighted to be here.
Great show.
Was the religious divide crossed that night?
The best ever period for music if you lived through those years
the best period for music is whenever you lived as a teen, whether it was 1830, 1960 or 2004
it's called nostalgia
What a fabulous era to be a teenager. We were so lucky and Mud were just one of the best groups around. Saw them live and the theatre rocked..
They were great fun live, saw them twice and Mud2 much later but none of original line up
I was 18 in -74, and was partying every weekend, and sometimes in the middle of the week, and Mud was played for all it was worth. It was a happy time, no worries.
And me.......
What a fantastic era to grow up in. Brilliant bands all around. Mud were just one of them. .🙌

Ellen R. Too right .....I also was born in 1959, what great music if only we could go back
+Ellen R. ...and then the Kitty crept in.... ;-D
That is the point ,isn’t it , early 70s music was fun somewhere in the late80s it started losing that element.
Why are people so negative. The song and the music was played for fun. Even if you didn’t like it at least you can hear the words.
Maybe they just don't like cats

REST IN PEACE LES, THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES XXXX
This was the time when even big name bands toured and played what would now be considered tiny venues, I remember going to a dance where MUD were the band, they were fantastic, no one was sitting down.
First time I have seen this and it wont be the last, this is the best viseo of the song and the intro is pure class. No one had fun like Mud.
Total feel good music what a great decade the seventies was the glam the fun the music so many great bands to choose from unlike today's rubbish total boring crap
Just a great era of fun. Thanks for sharing
