There's also a good chance they'll put an end to GoPro runs and and any other coverage we get from PB or even Bernard Kerr. You'll also need to be a cable subscriber or a pirate to watch. Fuck the UCI and fuck Discovery.

      @@mr.peabody2347 I think redbull actually cares about the sport, certainly the people like Warner, Claudio, Elliot, tracey, the people they employ seriously care about dh racing. Discovery does not, it is 100% monetary for them. They'll look to cut costs and charge as much as possible knowing true fans will find it hard to resist. I hate the doomer attitude people have these days, but in this case I think it's almost guaranteed. I'll definitely be watching and maybe it'll be amazing. But I don't think discovery actually gives a crap. It's like Amazon taking Tolkiens work, they don't have any devotion to the source material.

    That course "the black snake" is obviously the most extreme corse of the series. It's also is the only course in the entire sport of DH Mtn bike Racing that pushes a rider and keeps them on the edge for the entire corse. Look at all the flats plus all the crashes in practice and qualifiers. I agree with you Ben, it should be re-routed or perhaps a new course that is similar in design with some of the others in the series. These racers have real lives and need to be respected for the other challenges that is associated with being a pro DH Mtn bike racer.

  • @svenpixa
    @svenpixa ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Downhill tracks should be difficult and the person mastering it should win - not the one person that made it down without an ambulance. After all, it's called downhill racing - not downhill last man/woman standing. So I fully agree with you, Ben: Please make the tracks safe!

    • @stevenjalopnik1342
      @stevenjalopnik1342 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The riders all want to win and that means pushing the limits of what they are capable of. It could be the safest track in the world but people will still push their limits and get hurt. It’s just part of being the best in the world

    • @svenpixa
      @svenpixa ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevenjalopnik1342 it's true that, if you're pushing the limit, you eventually find it. However, there are definitely tracks out there, where people are finding the limit way more often or the consequences of finding the limit are much more severe than on others. For example, many riders are approaching worlds with a "bin it or win it" mentality - but Les Gets did not cause half as many casualties as Val di Sole did.

    • @WaechterDerNacht
      @WaechterDerNacht ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, with pushing the limits in the sport, risks are high and everybody knows it. The thing is though: if every 7-8th rider gets injured on a track, while on all the other tracks the percentage of injured rider is significantly lower, something is off. There are probably effects of fatigue from a stressful season end (overseas, world champs etc.) involved but they are probably not the main reason.
      In general, it would be a good idea for bike parks which have this kind of tracks, to switch things up from time to time and plant something where the old track was. Reason being that you can hold the soil and give it time to regenerate with fallen leaves, dead branches etc. This way you also have less problems with erosion and "bombed out" tracks.

  • @ejej6934
    @ejej6934 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sure, it was a challenging track, with tons of roots and rocks, but I don't know that I'd agree that the track is the main reason riders missed starts.
    Val di Sole had the biggest entry list of any race this season, with a ton of non-sponsored / non-team riders entered. For some of them, a mechanical issue could mean the difference between starting and watching from the sidelines: they don't have a team waiting to repair their bike and a big tent full of spare parts. I don't think you can assume that anyone who crashed was also injured, or that they wouldn't have crashed on any other course.
    Plus, it's the end of a long season and some riders were already nursing injuries from previous races. Finn Iles got a concussion at Les Gets. He was on the entry list for Val di Sole but didn't start. Wyn Masters was on the entry list, but he felt sub-par after the track walk and found out he has Covid. Just a couple of the riders who are part of the group who couldn't make starts in quali/finals, and neither one could blame the track.

    I never rode down this track but it sure looks nasty. However, breaks do exist too.

    Um... Jackson and Jordan are going to bring a new level next year. Beating he older guys by 4 seconds? Both would have had elite wins this year.

    Got to say I agree with you on moving the track, or adding a huge new bit. Just watching old footage like Sams run and then later when Gwin was dominating there, the track was just so sick back then with all the loam. But honestly I think it was still just as bad, they used to talk about how those huge rocks we're now seeing were buried in deep loam and you'd have no idea what was going on.

      that track must stay as it is otherwise they will ruin best DH track. If its that bad how balanche could ride it so she became overall champion still with not fully recovered collarbone fracture. Dont spread that BS about safety and danger they opted to risk by competing in DH.
