Why is it that every channel refuses to mention the Cube bikes of Intermarché-Wanty when talking about cheap TDF bikes? Those cost 7600€ for a full build and only have slight modifications for the pros.
cube don't really have a presence in the UK, they were talking about it on Cafe Media
@@GNerdful All well and good but if you do a video just about the prices of tdf bikes you should kinda do your homework on that. I mean Girmay won a stage on this bike this year and is in the green jersey.

I was sponsored in 2007 and had the exact same TT bike BMC was using in the TDF time trials and it was insane. Zipp wheels, Zipp handlebars, Zipp crank, Powertap rear hub... we estimated it was worth about $8,500 back then. So maybe $12,000 now? But that Pinarello is insane. Are they all dentists?

How many times: They. don't. have. to. pay. for. them. ! All the bikes are supplied to the teams as part of a contract that highlights the bikes in front of potential customers in race coverage. Sometimes it's at net no cost, other times (dependant on the team's standings/UCI points aggregation/national champs jerseys/etc etc.) it's at a total package cost, budgeted for in the team's yearly expenses, which bears no relation to the RRP that even the best looked-after retail customer has to pay.

The Cube lightning and aeros are Sam price full spect canyon bikes but this is the Standard price. At least in Germany. I am very happy with my cross race c62 pro.
But I suspect they don't pay GCN enough to be mentioned.

I'd take whatever bike. Then I'd sell it, buy a new bike for less than 3 grand, then use the rest of the money to pedal in groovy places

I just bought a new Factor Ostro VAM (not in IPT colours) which felt like a huge purchase for me, but seems like a bargain compared to some of those Oli and Manon mentioned. The costs of the Bolide make a strong argument for time trials being ridden on regular road bikes.

"bien vue" means "well seen" in French, what he tried to say was "bien venue" = "welcome". And about those outrageous bike prices: If Colnago, Specialized and Trek weren't downright insane and Pinarello would not belong to a luxury conglomerate where high prices are the most important marketing instrument, all bikes would cost much less and all about the same since most of them are made in the same East-Asian factories anyway.

Notice you guys didn't add the Trek Madone SLR in there. And you should have put TT bikes in another category because they a usually more expensive that an average bike anyway.
New potatoes: First early or 'new' potatoes are so-called because they are the earliest to crop, in June and July.
Second earlies (also called 'new' potatoes) are hot on their heels, taking a few more weeks to mature. They are ready from July.
AFAIK, all the exotic stuff on TdF bikes is commercially available, so I feel that qualifies as "off the rack". That Dare looks very nice -hope you get a chance to test it.

Question about the bike costs in the peloton. How much of the bikes and componentry is given (as part of sponsorship) and how much are the teams paying for it? Some of that bespoke componentry can't all be gifted.
Anyone have any info for the protective clothing mentioned? Seems like a good idea!
I would imagine the Enve bike is up there too, those bikes are unreal. Framesets cost $5,500 and every component is enve as well.

Is there a chance the prices are lower as the components could be provided to teams at cost? The promotion/ marketing within the tour would be worth the difference.

can we talk about how many of the pros in the tdf are stopping and changing their bikes for seemingly small technical issues? I'm surprised how many seem to want to swap bikes, thinking the visma team on their yellow bikes instead of the special blue ones they always start the stage with.

In 1993, I was in a position where I could have bought Robert Millar's spare bike from the 1984 Tour. Peugeot Fibre Carbone with Campag Record.
I had to rearrange my finances to put £300 in my current account. When I returned to purchase, it had been bought. Yes, £300.
Robert disappeared for quite a time, but reappeared as Philippa.
The other Tour bike I covet is one of the Z Team 1989 LeMond. I have a Peugeot Perthus 1987 with Shimano 600 at 9.25 kg.
The only thing that might come close to the bolide is Pogacar’s TT bike with all the custom bits on it
I would go for or the Van Rysel, or the Pinarello or the Cervelo or the Colnago.

A racing team isn't a business that buys their equipment. The manufacturer want to showcase their expensive product to the public. Otherwise much fewer people would buy their products.

In 1990 I bought a Merlin Ti frame for $1000. Inflation calculator says the 1990 $1000 today would be $2400.
Merlin’s website list the current price at $4700. About double inflation!!!
The Van Rysel is $11k in the States.
No Merida bikes at this year's Tour de France? Their frames are among the cheapest... I've bought one, a Team Replica from two years ago's tour, and it was cheaper that UNO-X's bike.
Team Bahrain Victorious use Merida. I think they are third cheapest after Cube (IWA) and Dare (UXM)
If no Meridas under their own name, then there are a few under Specialized disguise. Merida owns a 49% share in Spesh and makes their frames.

Given how long riders are out on the road in the sun, the 'batman' nose has a very distinct benefit of reducing the chances of skin cancer later in life. I realise that poms have no idea what the sun is, but as an Australian (and also let's remember Jayco Alula are essentially an Oz team) we're VERY aware of skin cancer and sun damage. They may (in fact do) look like nerdy speccy four-eye tat, but the long term benefit should in no way be under-estimated. Melanomas are just fucking nasty!
