    That's a terrifying story from Finn Iles - sounds like he was scary close to paralysing himself

    • @GaedeRafael
      @GaedeRafael ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Exactly what I tought! It seems that not even him knows how dangerous it was. It is even worse that nobody showed up to help him and he went down the track despite the hard crash...

      i'm not sure how to feel about the stage the sport is at right now: they're going so so fast, organizers and crowds want excitement and safety kind of lags behind.. i know they're young and they recover but still, it gave me goose bumps hearing mr Finn talk about 'feeling like himself finally'...

    I thought all the points for the overall was on the race run, with no points for qualifying just for this last race

    • @sp00n
      @sp00n ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah, thought so as well. And this still seems to be the case:
      "4.9.030
      The first 10 women elite and the first 20 men elite in the qualifying round are awarded world cup points as per the scale in article 4.9.037. However, in the last round of the UCI MTB world cup season, no points for the qualifying round will be given. The points (qualifying round and final) will be awarded to the riders with corresponding position in the final."

    Unless they changed from previous years, as others have pointed out there's no points for qualis. Points in the race are awarded as follows:
    1st through 5th: 250 / 200 / 170 / 150 / 130
    Cami's up 119 over Vali and 180 over Myriam. She just has to finish 4th or higher to guarantee the overall. Anything lower than 4th and it depends on how the other 2 do.

    • @ejej6934
      @ejej6934 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the other categories:
      Pierron needs to finish 59th or higher to win the overall. (Edit: Looks like Iles didn't start in qualis, so Pierron is overall champ regardless how he does in the race.)
      Goldstone is already a lock.
      Hemstreet needs to finish 7th or higher.

    • @hobmarg
      @hobmarg ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point and analysis. Myriam/Vali finishing top 2 is pretty certain so Camille will have to put down a solid race run. Easier said that done in her state of recovery on this track!

    • @danharvey3096
      @danharvey3096 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      "Red Bull" doesn't have Geo restrictions on World Cup races, & the only reason they had them on the World Champs is because Discovery bought the footage rights from UCI. Of which all the pay tv networks in each country bought that footage. It was all those pay tv channels, & Discovery, who imposed geo restrictions on Redbull.. In NZ it was SkyTV, in Australia it was SBS (atleast it was free), in the US it was the cable tv networks etc. And of course Discovery benefitted from all these channels buying the coverage from them.. And yes, the horrendously bad & glitchy coverage & the lack of informative graphics etc, & the comparatively boring & passionless commentary from a studio in the UK, is the "future" of Worldcup Downhill footage, now that UCI has sold all of it to Discovery.
      As it was even the footage that Redbull TV used, from which Rob Warner etc commentated over, even that was Discovery footage, hence why the graphics were different.. In NZ i used a VPN to watch it via SBS OnDemand in Australia, not knowing that Redbull was covering it at all.. then i discovered that they did in fact cover it in a limited no of countries, so i re-watched it using a VPN via Sweden, as Sweden didn't have any pay tv channels geo-blocking it, & the Redbull commentating was much better. But it wasn't Redbull TV coverage, & although they were onsite, they didn't have their own setup trackside, they were in a commentary box, commentating over Discovery footage.. The only downside with the Redbull TV coverage was that they didn't show the prizegiving, or Loic etc having to be protected by police & wisked away on a buggy. The Discovery footage covered that, but other than that i preferred the passion of Rob Warner, Elliot Jackson, & Tracey Hannah, commentating on their own sport..

    yeah Finn, there is something wrong,you should consider wearing a neck brace,I watched someone at Duryea dh in Reading PA. who I believe could have ended up paralyzed had he not been wearing a neck brace.It makes no sense to me.I wear a neck brace anytime I'm on a downhill bike and barely notice it.

    • @GaedeRafael
      @GaedeRafael ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree! These guys are so exposed, and a neck brace is something so simple that can avoid a tragedy!

    • @Ganiscol
      @Ganiscol ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont think a neck brace is that effective when you twist your neck, as in turning your head to either side. Its mainly made to stop your head from overstretching your neck in the backwards direction - which is probably a far more common thing to happen when you OTB and faceplant. But yea, I keep wondering why virtually none of the Elite field wears these (anymore).

    • @devinwillis7787
      @devinwillis7787 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically all pro moto guys stopped wearing them becuase they can’t get in a proper riding position with them on. They were going slower and crashing more because of the position is forced them into

    • @Ganiscol

      Depends solely on the fracture and the damage to the soft tissue around it. You can break all these bones in ways that make riding impossible from pain or the prospect of destroying it completely. Painkillers are certainly part of the game, though.

    This may sound dumb but why is the “world champion” not the overall winner? Why do they have a “world champion” race that determines that title? Shouldn’t the world champion be the overall winner of the series in their respective class? And why is it the second last race that defines that and only that race. Doesn’t make sense to me. Then you have a “world champion” and also an overall winner, who is the champion of the series in their international class but not the world champion???
