This anime is even better with the composer Yoshiaki Fujisawa, who previously worked on Houseki no Kuni. You can feel his distinctive piano tracks in both shows. Of course, gotta give credit to the fellow composer Tatsuya Kato, too. They are doing great. On a side note, Revue☆Starlight's studio, Kinema Citrus, seems like is having production problems such as shortage of animators to the point that they are looking for one online via Twitter. You may regconize their fantastic work on the mastapiece Made in Abyss and they still have plan with MiA's cinema recap movie. Even though admitting wonder if they can finishes Revue☆Starlight the way they planned, Kinema Citrus is working real hard right now to produce quality R☆S episodes while making way for future MiA projects.
First I though this was an anime about idols so I skipped, then checked in reddit some comments saying the first episode is amazing so I jumped into it. Best decision for me this season, I think it's the best show this season so far.
You've convinced me to join you. I have almost nothing this season that looks even mildly interesting to me so hey why not give this a shot, I can get some of these characters.
"I have almost nothing this season" is exactly how I felt before finding that I somehow missed this show despite going through anichart at the start of the season. Now it's the hypest I've been for a seasonal show in a long while.
This and "Planet With" are the only shows I'm watching this season (and, well, MHA, because why not). I think Planet With is terribly underrated, probably because it has literally horrible CGI. But in terms of story and direction it's been incredibly consistent. If anything you could give that a try, if you can look past the terrible CGI (which does actually get less annoying once you get used to it)
This show has been absolutely blowing me away so far. I will say, I'm still confused in tons of regards but I love that feeling for this show. I haven't been this excited watching a show in a while. Me being me, I have to point out that Fujisawa has been doing some of what I think is his best work ever. The music is so, so good, and if it stays at this level of quality will most likely be my pick for Anime Score of the year. The score is the perfect amount of idealistic while also producing mystery, not to mention the crazy amount of variety but also cohesion. The orchestration of various syncopated lines playing against ambiguous themes, very much like a minimalist or impressionist French style, is so incredibly well handled. It is crazy good. Package that up with the Sound Director You Yamada and you have a recipe for greatness. Sorry this show and particularly the score got me freaking hyped as all hell. Great video as always!
The people that says the beginning of the episode dull is missing out things. A lot of details you need to pay attention to, you will miss it in a blink of an eye. This is an anime you need to watch a few time each episodes to catch the details.
More videos showcasing why the events outside the revue are important are always appreciated. I've already joined the Revue Starlight train but with this video I'm certain many more with tag along for the ride.
After I watch the 1st episode, i i love this series... My expectation for this anime is like Kaleido star... But wow... will watch it till the end... (Beyond my expectation)
Wow Kaleido Star!!! I love that series as well. It is surprised to see that Kaleido Star is mentioned because most of the 1st impression from my friends is ' What? Revolutionary Girl Utena?" or 'What? Penguindrum?'or 'Yurikuma Arashi?'. lol! Well, to me, 'Revue Starlight' still reaches to my expectation(even beyond) so far though, lol>.
Haven't seen the second or third episode yet, but I like your take on this. I was pretty engaged from start to finish, though I do wish the character introductions had been more unique as they did feel kind of cliche and tropey. Btw, Hidive could not sub the duel song when they simulcasted the first episode because the license for insert songs sang by the seiyuu is held by a different company than the one that holds the license for the show overall. They did get that figured out since though, as they added the English song lyrics and fixed other translations errors. Just FYI. This is a great albeit short analysis of why this show is so wonderful and I can't wait to see where it goes!
I find it funny that the title of this video is such a common opinion, because for me, I've consistently enjoyed the "first fifteen minutes," and it has generally been the last few minutes of Starlight that start losing me. That said, maybe I'm just not looking deep enough into what's going on.
I just binged all of your videos. I love the amount of research in related topics, like psychology, that's been incorporated in all of them. I'll be gladly looking out for more.
Hey,this is great video! The first 15 minutes is actually we can see the characters Development or character psychology why they need to win the Top Star. One by one... Btw,i love that you give a chance to watch this anime.Definitely a best anime of this season! I subscribe to you since Yuru Camp!
I have no goddamn idea about this anime (but I have heard a bunch of times about it). I guess i will give this a shot then despite what lies ahead of the episodes they bring.
I'm really rally scared about the current situation of Revue Starlight's production. This has been my favorite anime this season by far (along with Planet With, which you should check out, Kamimashita :3) and I'd hate to see it fall apart on the production side. Hopefully everything will turn out good. I also had Madoka vibes from the first episode, and never understood why people only started to like Madoka by the third episode (well, I definitely understood why, just didn't understand why they didn't like the first two) and I think it all comes down to the direction. It's so subtle, but both shows have that "off-ness" feeling that somehow tell you that something's just not right in that particular world. I love that feeling. Great video, btw :)
The first few episodes can be a little confusing on understanding what the whole idea of the show is but personally, that's fine. I watched the first 2 episodes and I kinda got a rough understanding of Revue Starlight. I really love the anime for how oddly unique the concept and execution is among the other animes this season. I can't wait for the mobile game to come out.
Definitely. I regret not following along it before cuz I dropped it after episode 1, but I thought I'd give it another go(it was on 7 episodes at the time) since my other friends seemed to enjoy it. And I have no regrets for giving it another chance. Throughout the series so far I've been constantly screeching, thinking, and just more screeching, ESPECIALLY in episode 7. Highly recommend!
This is exactly how I felt😂 you placed it all out there haha. But I honestly found the first episode's 15 minutes boring but until that last moments; I was damn hyped for the next episodes each time. And then I came to understand the meanings of the first 15 minutes in the second episode and then each episode onwards. I completely loved it👍😭👌 this is such a great anime
Though I never understood the idea of the giraffe aside from being the idea that he represents the audience who wants something different ... or a different ending. Dunno😂 Wakarimasen😅
Interestingly, I haven't encountered anyone who though it's boring ... except for myself. I see all the stuff you mentioned, yet I find the character simply uninteresting. Defined only by "what does being a star mean to them" and not much else. And I feel I haven't been given a reason to care about any of the characters. Heck, I feel most for the MC's room mate, because MC is not paying much attention to her. it doesn't help that I'm blind to metaphors though...
I'm in the same boat, if the characters had more personality or authentic qualities to make them feel relatable, I'd be totally down with how the show was structured.
Thanks Kamimashita for the video, but thank you as well for this comment regarding my exact feelings about this show. Maybe it's because I've seen so many idol shows lately (especially Love Live and Bang Dream, both by Bushiroad) that all I can see is the simple characterization that leaves me unsatisfied. Oh, they're childhood friends. Oh, she's the third wheel. Oh, she's the prodigy who forgot how to put in effort for reward. Oh, they're rivals. Oh, they reveal their backstory only in the episode they get spotlighted; too bad they're only side characters who we also will sell merchandise of. The Bushiroad formula is real.
So i wasnt the only one comparing this show to Madoka. After watching the show, the first i thought was :" This anime could have been as good as Madoka",coming from som1 whose favourite anime is Madoka. And im not saying the anime is bad by no means, just saying that it has that madoka feeling, that there's some kind of meaning on every scene, and all that stuff that Madoka does perfectly.
I feel like this is the type of show, where most people will understand it's value only after it ended(like happened with Houseki) or it fail to deliver and wiil be completely forgotten at the end. I'm actually really impressed how much stuff they were able to cram in the first three episodes, considering we have 8 characters with a lot going on with them. You could already see most of the internal conflicts and room for potential development and it's done in way that both subtle and straightforward. It allows you to think about little details and what they mean in the grand scheme of things. And I'm talking just about so called "boring" slice of life parts. Perhaps the biggest problem for me is that the relationships between two main characters is the most standard thing possible for this type of show, and both Karen and Hikari doesn't have that much presence aside from "I am genki baka" and "I am mysterious transfer student". I hope we'll get something more from them in the future and in not so standard way.
i honestly thought that this anime was just another bushiroad-funded anime which will gain success from its songs or games, like bang dream, but i was surprised that it became something else entirely. i mean look at those seiyuus, this anime is basically a bait for someone who's into love live or bang dream.
I've only seen the first episode but as one of the "First Fifteen Minutes Are Boring" people, I have to say that while I appreciate using the first part of the episode for characterization, my problem lies moreso in the execution of that characterization which I found very underwhelming which ultimately lead to me finding the first fifteen minutes boring.
Didn't care for it at all personally. I did find the first 15 minutes pretty dull, but then I wasn't sat there absorbing every little detail and picking up on all the hints of where it was going. I was just watching a bunch of dull girl do and say dull things. The last few minutes were a great visual spectacle, but they felt so disconnected and over the top that I had nothing to say other than 'Uh. Okay.' by the end of it. I don't have much interest in watching episodes 2 and 3 but if it does turn out to be an amazing series, nothing is stopping me from picking it up in the future.
That's fine! In fact it's probably the better choice to take the wait-and-see approach. I think a lot of the enjoyment though for people who like the show is meticulously going through it like you said though. One of my friends has watched it upwards of 5 times x__X
For it was "The Last Episode of Revue☆Starlight Are Boring". The whole 'Starlight Festival' thing just bored the hell out of me. Its so in your face that it lose all the subtlety like most of the previous episodes have.
This anime is even better with the composer Yoshiaki Fujisawa, who previously worked on Houseki no Kuni. You can feel his distinctive piano tracks in both shows. Of course, gotta give credit to the fellow composer Tatsuya Kato, too. They are doing great.

The first IRL section of each Starlight episode is my favourite part of those episodes, there's just so much *character* in them.
You've convinced me to join you. I have almost nothing this season that looks even mildly interesting to me so hey why not give this a shot, I can get some of these characters.

I generally pick one or two shows to follow each season and I’m really glad I picked starlight. It’s one of the best new shows I’ve seen in a while.
Gigguk has no right to sue anyone

Guys , please watch ep7 and you will say ' damn this is real 'madoka magica'
After I watch the 1st episode, i
i love this series... My expectation for this anime is like Kaleido star... But wow... will watch it till the end... (Beyond my expectation)

Great video! I have the same opinion. Whenever someone says that the revues are the best part of any given episode I roll my eyes
I absolutely love Revue Starlight.
-stan nana-
>madoka magica
Nah, for me it reminded me of Utena.
The director did work under Ikuhara after all.
Great video! I can't stretch enough how underated this anime is.
Haven't seen the second or third episode yet, but I like your take on this. I was pretty engaged from start to finish, though I do wish the character introductions had been more unique as they did feel kind of cliche and tropey.

You might find yourself liking episode 4 more than most then! At least from what I've heard.
I just binged all of your videos. I love the amount of research in related topics, like psychology, that's been incorporated in all of them. I'll be gladly looking out for more.
Great video! I feel like this is the only anime this season even remotely worth watching.
Hey,this is great video!
The first 15 minutes is actually we can see the characters Development or character psychology why they need to win the Top Star. One by one...
Btw,i love that you give a chance to watch this anime.Definitely a best anime of this season!

"A dream is something you give others"
Oh that's deep fam
Hell yeah my dude. The one video that HAD to be made this season.
I have no idea where this series is going. But boy am I looking forward to experiencing it.
agreed.
nice that you put more content from other creators about the topic at the end :3

Amazing Show a big surprise
The reviews were full of Shonen Andys so of course they were going to say it's boring...
Kamimashita yells Tournament Arc? Hell yes sign me up lol
clean high quality video.

It is a "brighter" Madoka as I would say. But Utena is also a good comparison.
Looks like ill have to give this show a watch.
i think its my favorite anime ever
after 3 months, yes it is
I still think so
What subs are being used at 4:02?
ACSS subs!

Dezha Vhu lol true...
Irvan Maulana to be fair tho they chose the best ones ;”)
can you make a video tanking about "planet with"?
also i relly like to watch yours videos(also i am a Braizilian so i cant speak english well)
Maybe I'm wrong here but those girls are similar to the normal rarity ones in the Love Live mobile game. Correct me if I'm wrong.
This show is the best show of summer 2018 (not Cells at Work)

I don’t know. I feel you must like the moe kind of anime to like this... since it’s not my style the story bored me really quickly
Just play the game, bang dream anime adaptation is sucks too
This anime sucks!!!. Just as u said boring a.f
I clicked on this video just to dislike.
That’s cool ig, nobody wanted to know anyways
