What he had done was it was staged to get high bids and then they would get the money that was left after the storage company got what was owed to them. They want the policy changed so that the people who default on their unit don't get any money back after their unit is auctioned off, it would go to charity instead.

They may care, but if the police are being overwhelmed, a victim who has his money back isn't going to be high-priority. All I can say is I hope the thief got a pile of empty jewelry boxes... and soon gets a criminal record for his/her pains.
The problem is that since he was refunded the property is no longer his and he no longer has claim to it. He should have waited until after the investigation was over to get refunded because then it would have been theft of HIS property and been in his hands.
Never mind auctions. What about people who die and it’s known to the storage company. Usually family doesn’t know everything in the unit or even if there is a unit. Talk about opportunity!!

thing is, even before online there was potential fraud.... online creates a much more comfortable environment for fraud to take place, but who the hell knows if the default lock was cut, the unit cleaned out of valuables, staged, then re-locked, & then security tagged locked
WOW !!!...this is starting to be a pattern in the storage/auction business...this is the 3rd video, from the 3rd content provider (the other 2 are What The Hales and Treasure Hunting with Jebus) that I've seen on this kind of problem in the last 2 months, once in Virginia, and twice in Ohio (Wooster and Cleavland). I'm in southern Ontario, Canada and on occasion have bought a unit at one of the local storage facilities. I've never heard of some of these scams...I've even gone to "Lost Luggage" auctions in Toronto and never heard of it. It certainly is enough to make me pause and wonder if spending my "play" money and taking a chance is worth this new risk....Thanks Rob, for your content, I've seen you a number of times on Jeremy's channel (along with Conkie) and enjoy your channel as well. Keep up the great content and I really hope you get to work this out AND get your items back (or at the least your money back, although I get that that's not the issue.)...anyway, peace out, from Doc in the Great White (now kinda green and really wet) North of southern Ontario, Canada.
Sale bag is gone, tiles were moved, brown jacket or whatever it is next to speaker is gone and the speaker itself has been moved, yellow Tool bag is missing, and the other tan jacket that was on top of the tiles is also gone. There's also something red that was sitting right next to the barrel that is also missing now. And that's just some of the stuff that I saw from the first picture.
Police are unbelievable 😮. It doesn’t matter that you got your money back. You purchased something and now items are missing. They should file a theft report immediately 🤦♀️

Rob call your district attorneys office for the county the facility is in and file a report, then let them do their investigation into the issue. If someone is accused of committing a crime, it is not the police but the DA who has the sole power to decide if criminal charges are filed and the severity of those charges. The issue will this apply to the present management company or the previous management company, or the employees or the owner. When you say you have the key then the attention will be on you.

Is has just got scammed for 4200 dollars. It is a shame that people are buying units and this is happening. He has had over 61 boxes all sealed up and with what what was in them facing the door. He has got no we're going through the police or the auction unit or storage company that out them up on there site. Please talk to them and maybe help them to sort there one out. I've been buying units for 7 years.... in the past twice..I got there...paid ...went to the unit and a lot of stuff was missing. The first time honestly I think the office had no idea...second time clearly it was the manager. He was VERY rude to me when I asked him about it and got extremely defensive. Long story short it really sucks !! Time wasted and truck rented. I got my money back both times but still lost time and money on the truck I rented.

It is happening everywhere. Jebus in Virginia recently spent 4K on a unit to find it full of empty resealed boxes. The facility and Storage Treasures do not want to know. It needs to be stopped.

Spread the word so anyone who is concidering buying from there will think twice or investigate really well before touching anything!!! Insist they watch there security cameras to see who went to the unit after it was photographed . Or allow you to view it. If they won't take that step, start spreading the dishonesty label on that facility and see if you can stop other bidders from bidding on units from them. I've been doing this for 5 years, I show a prophet, but I'm still small-time, and I can't afford to take losses like this. You and WTH Jeremy are heros in this industry. My brother had a storage unit, the owner of the units stole his tool chest, all his tools, and other stuff, you could see where he climbed over the wall and walked on his vintage 1967 mustang to get to the stuff and pass it over the divider wall.

Not sure if you mentioned this to the cops but some of the photos for the auction were taken from inside the unit which in not allowed correct? They are supposed to follow the same rules for the auctions as if it were a live auction correct? Can't go inside the unit, look around all you want, take pictures if you want, can't touch anything inside the unit auction begins after a certain amount of browsing time correct?

Seems like the old facility owner worked something out with the original owner of the stuff, because they obviously knew what to take. That's awful. Such an uncomfortable situation. Why don't they have cameras? They need to go back to only live auctions so you can deal with it in the moment.
A relative of mine used to manage a storage facility in Ohio. She would take off locks and replace them with storage lockout locks. She would have others go through default storage and take anything or sometimes everything and just write something creative for the company file. Not once or twice but every time
“I’ve been doing this 15 years” has become a new drinking game! Bro, did the storage facility do you dirty? YES! Should they be punished? YES! Do the cops care if you’ve been doing this 15 years or 15 minutes? NO! Facts - stick to ‘em. You have the before pictures, and when you opened the door you can clearly see things are missing. Yup, I’m with you 100% there. Take pictures, lots and lots of pictures. Document everything. I know you’re not pissed about the auction money, that was refundable as soon as you saw it wasn’t as advertised, the facility knew it, the auction company knew it. The thing is, this DOES happen all the time, the lockers do get pillaged, the “little guys” do get defrauded. Can you stop it? Probably not, but I applaud you for trying. I stopped buying lockers in 2008 for this very reason and unfortunately I never got my money back. Video cameras were only on the gate and the office, nowhere near the units or alleys. My word against theirs. I lost. All that said, the only argument I had with what you kept saying was how you’ve been doing this for blah many years… nobody cares. Doesn’t matter. Isn’t pertinent to the facts of the case. Again I applaud the idea that you might be helping others down the line by getting these crooks caught tho. I hope it all works out. Wishing you the best!

There are some storage places that have a policy where they only take what is owed and the former owner of the unit gets the remainder. set up and retape high end empty boxes purposely default on the unit. so the unit will get high bids and the bidder gets screwed..

This just happened to another u-tuber. They were arrested because he found the items on e-bay. It was Jeremy Hale. They were selling what they could and putting the junk back in the unit. I think the owner took pictures with the good stuff. They got everyone to bid you left he came cut the lock as he thought he was being slick and needed money for drugs. Usually when people steal they have an underlying condition of substance use and their habit/s have become bigger then they can afford.
Ah, I work in storage and bit of advice. The lock thingy should be put immeadiatly. Bring your own lock. They can not deny you to use your own lock. They do not need your key. And always get photos and videos before you have them close the unit. He has the keys. He admitted it on video that he has the keys. Find put when the keys were turned over to him ?
Having dealt with someone who has stolen from me and other people I know, they'll first act all nice and innocent, but then if they feel like they're being accused they'll get defensive and accuse someone else. I was watching that lady's reaction and feeling like I was watching a rerun of what this person I'm talking about used to do to me and others. Must be so infuriating having that happen then having to wait so long for the police to show up. That lady's reaction is very suspect to me. Like you and Jeremy both said, you just don't want it to happen to someone else.
It should be a standard policy that every locker have photos taken for said online auction and a photo taken of the locker showing official (in this case storage treasures) tag on the locker along with normal lock. And should that tag be tampered with in any way prior to the winning bidder arriving the winning bidder is refunded 1.5x his fee and the storage company is then docked a penalty fee by storage treasures. This would prevent any site from conspiring to commit theft of items. And unless the site reports the theft to police it would be clear/cut policy.
I am not a youtuber, but I recently had a unit that didn't match the pictures, and items that made me bid were mysteriously gone. These facilities are getting brazen since covid made everything go online.
Good for you rob stand your ground! I feel bad that you had to wait so long for the police but just everyone remember if you have a politician that says defund the police don't vote for them.
the other problem (probable problem) is what's missing before the picture is taken... the only way to combat this crap imo, is to have like random "secret shops" where an account is setup, then purposely put into default, then auctioned off with complete inventory check at the end..... that's not going to happen most likely.
What likely happened as it has happened to me in the past, especially with all online auctions, and pictures is that the tenant probably has paid their unit up to current a few times as the auction time approached, gaining access to it each time. They probably paid just enough last time and took some things out of it, and then just let it go. Facility most likely just reused the same photographs that they have had all along. Therefore when someone finally won the unit it is missing some things that were in the pictures.
The crack in the storage bin under the barrel is wider in your walk-in than in the picture...something was moved and the storage bin was probably used to lean on.
This is when you should have one of the recorders that the people use when they go into haunted places. You could capture what they are saying a couple of rooms away I bought one and it saved me losing items from my garage under my house. I heard a noise and got up and had a look out the front and stayed on my veranda. I couldn’t hear anything but I had the feeling that someone was around so I went inside and got my recorder and my brightest olight torch and quietly went back outside and turned my recorder on and let it record for 5 minutes. I then had a listen and could hear footsteps and sounded like two people whispering. After that I turned on my torch and had a look on my grass and saw footsteps in the dew on the grass. I went back inside and got something to defend myself if I was to be attacked and woke my wife up and she stood at the front door and looked to see if anyone ran from our yard. When I walked out the back of the house to the door I saw two people under my house so I put the strobe on my torch and they couldn’t see anything or were I was and they just put their arms out in front of them to feel their way out. I knew the police wouldn’t be there in time and in Australia we don’t have any rights to detain people that have broken into our homes. So I was moving out of the way of them finding me with the strobing light still in their faces affecting their vision. Somehow with me moving out of the way and 1 guy in front of the other the item I had to protect myself hit the thief’s arms that he had stretched out in front of him and he started screaming in pain so I turned the torch to the second guy’s face so he couldn’t see and he had his arms outstretched and his arms got hit as well and he was screaming as well. With all the noise my Neighbour had heard screaming and he came running down but stopped when he saw two guys running faster than he had ever seen a person run. When I was walking out to my front yard he saw me and asked what happened and I told him that they were under my house stealing things in my garage and he asked what happened to them and why were they screaming. I told him that they had the light from my torch in their faces and they didn’t see the step down part of my garage and they both hurt their arms trying to stop themselves falling forward. After telling my neighbour what happened I then opened my garage door out the front and we were sitting on the step I said they fell down and when the police arrived they asked me what happened. I then told them that I heard something and I seen footsteps on my lawn and when I went to look in my garage I had my torch in their eyes and they fell down off the step that we were sitting on and the police said they thought I had given them a beating from the second phone call they received about two guys screaming and then they ran from my property. I then said did they think I had beaten them before letting them run from my house. I then asked them why would they have thought that I would fight two guys and they laughed and said when they saw my neighbour they were a little worried he is 5,10 95kg but when they were still in their patrol unit they saw me walk out and I’m 6,3 and 104kg and I’m in construction and I go to boxing training Monday to Friday and I’m fit looking. What I didn’t know was the police had called for two more units to assist and they said urgent because they were small compared to my neighbour and I. After we approached the police and talked calmly to them and our wives had come out with hot cups of tea for the two police officers and us two they said they had to quickly contact the two units that were racing towards us because they were worried if we got angry or anything bad happened and they didn’t want that to happen to them and especially us because I was nearly robbed and my neighbour came down to make sure everyone was safe in my house wife and three kids. After the other officers turned up still they also got hot cup of tea while they were writing down what happened and what I had done to get the two guys to scream and leave running from my house and after all the important things were taken care of there were 6 police there. When everything wasn’t official they said that the first two officers said they were not ready to get out of their vehicle and start finding out who my neighbour was but when they saw me walk out they said over the radio that if both of them had trouble with the first guy they may have been able to handcuff him but when they saw me they said they didn’t even think they could taz me pepper spray me and try to cuff me because they wouldn’t be big enough to fit my wrists. I laughed and said that they should have gotten my name and found out that I had never been aggressive or rude to any officer when I had interacted with them in the past and when they had a look they laughed and said they had never seen anything like what I had on my record. One officer had written in a space where they let other officers know if the person was violent or anything else they needed to know and how to approach the person. In this area for me it had the nicest and most polite person they had ever given tickets to or had to take back to a police station and the officers could have me travel in the front of the police vehicle as they would have the best drive to the station as I would have them laughing about silly things that I had done and been put in the watch house for the night. I would even tell them about things that I would do to my father when we were out drinking and he would try and pick up a female and he would always say don’t call him dad and to use his first name and how I would say what would mum say when we got home because he couldn’t do that to my mother but they had been separated for years. The 6 police officers stayed for around a hour and half as they had called in the police helicopter and they were flying around in silent mode with infrared camera looking to see if they could see the two guys in the area and they said they would be asking local GP’S if any guys had two sore arms come in to call them and the hospitals as well.

They may care, but if the police are being overwhelmed, a victim who has his money back isn't going to be high-priority. All I can say is I hope the thief got a pile of empty jewelry boxes... and soon gets a criminal record for his/her pains.
The problem is that since he was refunded the property is no longer his and he no longer has claim to it.
He should have waited until after the investigation was over to get refunded because then it would have been theft of HIS property and been in his hands.

WOW !!!...this is starting to be a pattern in the storage/auction business...this is the 3rd video, from the 3rd content provider (the other 2 are What The Hales and Treasure Hunting with Jebus) that I've seen on this kind of problem in the last 2 months, once in Virginia, and twice in Ohio (Wooster and Cleavland). I'm in southern Ontario, Canada and on occasion have bought a unit at one of the local storage facilities. I've never heard of some of these scams...I've even gone to "Lost Luggage" auctions in Toronto and never heard of it. It certainly is enough to make me pause and wonder if spending my "play" money and taking a chance is worth this new risk....Thanks Rob, for your content, I've seen you a number of times on Jeremy's channel (along with Conkie) and enjoy your channel as well. Keep up the great content and I really hope you get to work this out AND get your items back (or at the least your money back, although I get that that's not the issue.)...anyway, peace out, from Doc in the Great White (now kinda green and really wet) North of southern Ontario, Canada.
Sale bag is gone, tiles were moved, brown jacket or whatever it is next to speaker is gone and the speaker itself has been moved, yellow Tool bag is missing, and the other tan jacket that was on top of the tiles is also gone. There's also something red that was sitting right next to the barrel that is also missing now. And that's just some of the stuff that I saw from the first picture.

Rob call your district attorneys office for the county the facility is in and file a report, then let them do their investigation into the issue. If someone is accused of committing a crime, it is not the police but the DA who has the sole power to decide if criminal charges are filed and the severity of those charges. The issue will this apply to the present management company or the previous management company, or the employees or the owner. When you say you have the key then the attention will be on you.

What with Jeremy's scam unit, treasure hunting with Jebus scam 63 empty boxes and now this, it seems to me that there are far too many storage facilities scamming/stealing from auction customers. That manager definitely looked guilty, perhaps the police should search her home for the stolen goods?

I've been buying units for 7 years.... in the past twice..I got there...paid ...went to the unit and a lot of stuff was missing. The first time honestly I think the office had no idea...second time clearly it was the manager. He was VERY rude to me when I asked him about it and got extremely defensive. Long story short it really sucks !! Time wasted and truck rented. I got my money back both times but still lost time and money on the truck I rented.

Insist they watch there security cameras to see who went to the unit after it was photographed . Or allow you to view it. If they won't take that step, start spreading the dishonesty label on that facility and see if you can stop other bidders from bidding on units from them. I've been doing this for 5 years, I show a prophet, but I'm still small-time, and I can't afford to take losses like this. You and WTH Jeremy are heros in this industry. My brother had a storage unit, the owner of the units stole his tool chest, all his tools, and other stuff, you could see where he climbed over the wall and walked on his vintage 1967 mustang to get to the stuff and pass it over the divider wall.
This is exactly why i only deal with live in person auctions only. None of the online auctions. Too many shady things can happen!!

Not sure if you mentioned this to the cops but some of the photos for the auction were taken from inside the unit which in not allowed correct? They are supposed to follow the same rules for the auctions as if it were a live auction correct? Can't go inside the unit, look around all you want, take pictures if you want, can't touch anything inside the unit auction begins after a certain amount of browsing time correct?

Seems like the old facility owner worked something out with the original owner of the stuff, because they obviously knew what to take. That's awful. Such an uncomfortable situation. Why don't they have cameras? They need to go back to only live auctions so you can deal with it in the moment.
A relative of mine used to manage a storage facility in Ohio. She would take off locks and replace them with storage lockout locks. She would have others go through default storage and take anything or sometimes everything and just write something creative for the company file.

Facts - stick to ‘em. You have the before pictures, and when you opened the door you can clearly see things are missing. Yup, I’m with you 100% there. Take pictures, lots and lots of pictures. Document everything.
I know you’re not pissed about the auction money, that was refundable as soon as you saw it wasn’t as advertised, the facility knew it, the auction company knew it. The thing is, this DOES happen all the time, the lockers do get pillaged, the “little guys” do get defrauded. Can you stop it? Probably not, but I applaud you for trying.
I stopped buying lockers in 2008 for this very reason and unfortunately I never got my money back. Video cameras were only on the gate and the office, nowhere near the units or alleys. My word against theirs. I lost.
All that said, the only argument I had with what you kept saying was how you’ve been doing this for blah many years… nobody cares. Doesn’t matter. Isn’t pertinent to the facts of the case. Again I applaud the idea that you might be helping others down the line by getting these crooks caught tho.

There are some storage places that have a policy where they only take what is owed and the former owner of the unit gets the remainder. set up and retape high end empty boxes purposely default on the unit. so the unit will get high bids and the bidder gets screwed..

This just happened to another u-tuber. They were arrested because he found the items on e-bay. It was Jeremy Hale. They were selling what they could and putting the junk back in the unit. Also, I think that person in the office is the guilty party. See how she is acting. Guilty. Had to laugh when you called Jeremy. Hi Jeremy. LOL

I think the owner took pictures with the good stuff. They got everyone to bid you left he came cut the lock as he thought he was being slick and needed money for drugs. Usually when people steal they have an underlying condition of substance use and their habit/s have become bigger then they can afford.

Ah, I work in storage and bit of advice. The lock thingy should be put immeadiatly. Bring your own lock. They can not deny you to use your own lock. They do not need your key. And always get photos and videos before you have them close the unit. He has the keys. He admitted it on video that he has the keys. Find put when the keys were turned over to him ?
Having dealt with someone who has stolen from me and other people I know, they'll first act all nice and innocent, but then if they feel like they're being accused they'll get defensive and accuse someone else. I was watching that lady's reaction and feeling like I was watching a rerun of what this person I'm talking about used to do to me and others. Must be so infuriating having that happen then having to wait so long for the police to show up. That lady's reaction is very suspect to me. Like you and Jeremy both said, you just don't want it to happen to someone else.
It should be a standard policy that every locker have photos taken for said online auction and a photo taken of the locker showing official (in this case storage treasures) tag on the locker along with normal lock. And should that tag be tampered with in any way prior to the winning bidder arriving the winning bidder is refunded 1.5x his fee and the storage company is then docked a penalty fee by storage treasures. This would prevent any site from conspiring to commit theft of items. And unless the site reports the theft to police it would be clear/cut policy.
I am not a youtuber, but I recently had a unit that didn't match the pictures, and items that made me bid were mysteriously gone. These facilities are getting brazen since covid made everything go online.

the other problem (probable problem) is what's missing before the picture is taken... the only way to combat this crap imo, is to have like random "secret shops" where an account is setup, then purposely put into default, then auctioned off with complete inventory check at the end..... that's not going to happen most likely.
What likely happened as it has happened to me in the past, especially with all online auctions, and pictures is that the tenant probably has paid their unit up to current a few times as the auction time approached, gaining access to it each time. They probably paid just enough last time and took some things out of it, and then just let it go. Facility most likely just reused the same photographs that they have had all along. Therefore when someone finally won the unit it is missing some things that were in the pictures.

The crack in the storage bin under the barrel is wider in your walk-in than in the picture...something was moved and the storage bin was probably used to lean on.
This is when you should have one of the recorders that the people use when they go into haunted places.
You could capture what they are saying a couple of rooms away I bought one and it saved me losing items from my garage under my house.
I heard a noise and got up and had a look out the front and stayed on my veranda.
I couldn’t hear anything but I had the feeling that someone was around so I went inside and got my recorder and my brightest olight torch and quietly went back outside and turned my recorder on and let it record for 5 minutes.
I then had a listen and could hear footsteps and sounded like two people whispering.
After that I turned on my torch and had a look on my grass and saw footsteps in the dew on the grass.
I went back inside and got something to defend myself if I was to be attacked and woke my wife up and she stood at the front door and looked to see if anyone ran from our yard.
When I walked out the back of the house to the door I saw two people under my house so I put the strobe on my torch and they couldn’t see anything or were I was and they just put their arms out in front of them to feel their way out.
I knew the police wouldn’t be there in time and in Australia we don’t have any rights to detain people that have broken into our homes.
So I was moving out of the way of them finding me with the strobing light still in their faces affecting their vision.
Somehow with me moving out of the way and 1 guy in front of the other the item I had to protect myself hit the thief’s arms that he had stretched out in front of him and he started screaming in pain so I turned the torch to the second guy’s face so he couldn’t see and he had his arms outstretched and his arms got hit as well and he was screaming as well.
With all the noise my Neighbour had heard screaming and he came running down but stopped when he saw two guys running faster than he had ever seen a person run.
When I was walking out to my front yard he saw me and asked what happened and I told him that they were under my house stealing things in my garage and he asked what happened to them and why were they screaming.
I told him that they had the light from my torch in their faces and they didn’t see the step down part of my garage and they both hurt their arms trying to stop themselves falling forward.
After telling my neighbour what happened I then opened my garage door out the front and we were sitting on the step I said they fell down and when the police arrived they asked me what happened.
I then told them that I heard something and I seen footsteps on my lawn and when I went to look in my garage I had my torch in their eyes and they fell down off the step that we were sitting on and the police said they thought I had given them a beating from the second phone call they received about two guys screaming and then they ran from my property.
I then said did they think I had beaten them before letting them run from my house.
I then asked them why would they have thought that I would fight two guys and they laughed and said when they saw my neighbour they were a little worried he is 5,10 95kg but when they were still in their patrol unit they saw me walk out and I’m 6,3 and 104kg and I’m in construction and I go to boxing training Monday to Friday and I’m fit looking.
What I didn’t know was the police had called for two more units to assist and they said urgent because they were small compared to my neighbour and I.
After we approached the police and talked calmly to them and our wives had come out with hot cups of tea for the two police officers and us two they said they had to quickly contact the two units that were racing towards us because they were worried if we got angry or anything bad happened and they didn’t want that to happen to them and especially us because I was nearly robbed and my neighbour came down to make sure everyone was safe in my house wife and three kids.
After the other officers turned up still they also got hot cup of tea while they were writing down what happened and what I had done to get the two guys to scream and leave running from my house and after all the important things were taken care of there were 6 police there.
When everything wasn’t official they said that the first two officers said they were not ready to get out of their vehicle and start finding out who my neighbour was but when they saw me walk out they said over the radio that if both of them had trouble with the first guy they may have been able to handcuff him but when they saw me they said they didn’t even think they could taz me pepper spray me and try to cuff me because they wouldn’t be big enough to fit my wrists.
I laughed and said that they should have gotten my name and found out that I had never been aggressive or rude to any officer when I had interacted with them in the past and when they had a look they laughed and said they had never seen anything like what I had on my record.
One officer had written in a space where they let other officers know if the person was violent or anything else they needed to know and how to approach the person.
In this area for me it had the nicest and most polite person they had ever given tickets to or had to take back to a police station and the officers could have me travel in the front of the police vehicle as they would have the best drive to the station as I would have them laughing about silly things that I had done and been put in the watch house for the night.
I would even tell them about things that I would do to my father when we were out drinking and he would try and pick up a female and he would always say don’t call him dad and to use his first name and how I would say what would mum say when we got home because he couldn’t do that to my mother but they had been separated for years.
The 6 police officers stayed for around a hour and half as they had called in the police helicopter and they were flying around in silent mode with infrared camera looking to see if they could see the two guys in the area and they said they would be asking local GP’S if any guys had two sore arms come in to call them and the hospitals as well.
