  • Let's get C-FTAV home! gofund.me/fc36e953 ...TAHS was honoured to have former Time Air pilot Bree E. visit us at YXE on Easter weekend 2021. After 19 years, she was able to sit back down in the cockpit of one of the many F-28's she flew with Time Air and Canadian Regional. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of Bree taking us through the start-up procedure, one she hasn't performed since 2002! We only wish we could have actually flown the plane!

    Bree, this was my first airplane back in 1974, proud F/O, After some years been flying some big DC8 and L1011 I was promoted to the F28 left seat. Wonderfull airplane, by the way HP cocks transit middle position were there untill reaching some HP-LP values then moved forward to complete the starter procedure while the starter valve closed.
    TTC top temperature control heps you to keep the TGT whith in limits during Take off -495 ?- and engine start 550 Ím not quite sure. Because it was my first airplane I have a lot of information in my mind and also the original Orange Fokker systems manual. A few years ago I did a PDF including W&B and performance. Thank you for taking me back on time. My last airplane was a B747-400.

    This was my favourite aircraft of 35 years of flying.
    We had one aircraft that was a Dog & (1) I had a main wheel nearly fall off on the ground - (2) lost all use of the right fuel tank & had to use Cross Feed to keep the Engines going & (3) on another occasion lost all main Hydraulics but managed to get the Gear down normally & the Doors closed without the hand Winch in the floor. ( The Pax never suspected anything until we had to get towed in).
    The "Pocket Rocket" we called it & that Speed Brake was Gods gift to aviation & I have done strait in approaches from 10,000ft at 10 miles out (as did all our guys). You could go down like a Space Shuttle.
    With no speed restrictions we could hold 300 kts to around 3 miles into Sydney Australia easily.
    Nothing happened under 80% thrust on the Tay engines though so you had to "Spool up" On approach.

      Hi there. I have a question regarding the F28.. Just flight have released their model for Flightsim 2020, absolutely fantastic representation of this aircraft. One thing that has caught my attention though is the roll rate.. It seems very light/sensitive in roll even at low speeds.. Is this indicative of the real thing?.

    • @billolgaau
      @billolgaau ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Vanadeo I am still setting up my Controls at the moment & so far very impressed with it.
      I did do one quick circuit & that felt like the real thing. You could do tight circuits in bad weather at 400ft easily. (We did this in training with zero flap landings during our licence renewals as well).
      The F28 was fun & could go down hill like a Space Shuttle leaving the B737's for dead in the last 30 miles.

      @@billolgaau Fantastic!.. I think I need to spend a lot of time in this bird, definitely a plane worth investing time in to learn properly. What are your thoughts on the auto pilot?, does that all function right?..
      I still need to figure out how to work out T/O trim positions and correct V-speeds and Approach speeds. She's definitely not a lazy man's plane, this I am impressed with and love about it.. I've not had to scour documentation in years..

    I’m not gonna call click bait, but I got excited hoping to hear the old RRs spool up. Row 13? in a mk1000, with no window on takeoff, is a sound I’m sure I’ll never experience again 😦

    • @timeairhistoricalsociety
      @timeairhistoricalsociety  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We will certainly have to come up with a way to simulate the sound! Only a couple of the crew ever had the opportunity to fly in the F-28, and those Speys certainly had a distinctive whine! The whole fleet of engines from Saskatoon went to the Oil & Gas industry in Texas, USA. The new role was apparently reported to be a new role of powering pump stations for pipelines.

    I have 3 questions:
    Does the F28 have reverse thrust?
    Are wing spoilers separated controls from the tail speed brake control? If so, how wing spoilers are controlled?

    • @timeairhistoricalsociety
      @timeairhistoricalsociety  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Eduardo! Thanks for the question. We sent it to Bree, and this was her reply: "...The F28 did NOT have reverse thrust. But it had huge brakes & ground spoilers.
      Yes; the wing spoilers were separate from the speed brake.
      The ground spoilers ( Fokker called them “lift dumpers”) were actuated by wheel spin up upon touchdown, this was armed after the landing gear was selected down; the Captain’s thrust levers also had a manual lever that was moved to the “up” position upon touchdown.
      The speed brake had a separate lever control on the central console...".
