    Last week we toured Phrozen’s HQ in Taiwan!
    While visiting we got hands-on experience with some pre-production versions of their new Arco printer. We spent 48 hours intensively printing, testing, and filming.
    We are excited about our GammaMaster Nozzle collaboration with Phrozen and the ongoing Arco Stretch Goal campaign. Let us know your thoughts and what you want to see when we get Arco in Florida for more in-depth testing and analysis!

    It looks like a really solid printer. 300 cubed build volume is nice. Chroma Kit will make for good competition. If it performs like a premium printer with few issues, it has a lot going for it. Kickstarter can always feel a bit sketchy, but it's obvious the printer will get made at least. Plus if Slice is willing to partner, it can't be too bad. Also cool they are Taiwan based. Definitely look forward to reviews.

      from what i saw in phrozen's slicer demo, they will have an option to select "colour A" and say to print at 200 degrees, while printing "colour B" at 260 degrees. It also allows you to change the print speed of each filament in the chroma kit too.

      If you dont mind the fact that you need a buffer, you can simply use a ercf or annex trad rack. They do exactly the same thing minus rewinding the spool and being a dry box. A annex trad rack for example can be built for less than 100 dollars. Benefits are obviously the price, you can add as many colours as you want, especially on the trad rack you have no limitations, and can use cardboard spools. Downsides are of course no dry box, no spool rewinding, you have to build it yourself.
      The reliability of colour changes of the arco is the same as the bambu, a filament cutter, at least it was mentioned in the video. So pretty much a 1 to 1 copy of the system bambu lab uses

    • @SliceEngineering
      @SliceEngineering  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The printer is currently on Kickstarter. Phrozen has indicated that the printers are slated to move into production around May, so final tweaks and improvements are being made based on community feedback before they start mass production.
      It is not uncommon for a Kickstarter campaign to showcase a Beta unit since the purpose of Kickstarter is to fund the first round of production. The machine delivered to backers will not be a Beta version, but the first production version of Arco.

      @kilianlindlbauer8277 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@robhall5622only very few pre built printers have a true self leveling bed. The twotrees sk1 has a 3 point bed leveling, magneto x has a 4 point bed leveling, the qidi q1 has 2 point bed tilt, the elegoo orange storm giga has probably 2 point gantry tilt (hopefully), sovol sv07 has 2 point gantry tilt, formbot Marathon 3 point bed, formbot troodon series are essentially pre built vorons with rrf instead of klipper. But most core xy nowadays have three z leadscrews, in the case of the arco 4 for the gantry, so you could probably add that feature, if they haven't done the creality move and removed the necessary modules from klipper. If so, can you add them back, or even update klipper to the mainline fork?

      The performance of Voron without the time and hassle of building one for people who are not interested in that.
      Plus, that’s not getting into the multicolor capabilities. The Slice nozzle is a stretch goal for the campaign as an added bonus for backers!

    • @flat_stickproductions209
      @flat_stickproductions209 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      It essentially is, it's the first real machine to directly compete with Bambu while leveraging the gantry design from Voron. What most of these companies don't know is it's not the speed or even 4 color AMS that sells the Bambu. It's the ability to relatively flawlessly print anything without any setup or calibration. I have reverted to not even performing filament calibration and my prints are great. I set 0.02 PA for every filament and run eSun stock profile. It still prints better than days of testing, tweaking, and calibration built profiles.

    • @robhall5622
      @robhall5622 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The gantry is only superficially like a Voron 2.4, as it only has 1 stepper running all 4 z screws via belts, so it can't auto tram the gantry to make it parallel to the bed.

    Putting printers on concrete pavers isn't to lower the centre of gravity, Slice.
    Searching various patent listings gives zero hits for Phrozen having any patents linked to bed levelling. Also, the fact something is patented doesn't mean you aren't allowed to know anything about it, quite the opposite, so can you please explain what is patented?

    • @SliceEngineering
      @SliceEngineering  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We use concrete pavers under printers to dampen vibrations the printer experiences and generates during printing-partially by adding mass and lowering the center of gravity of the setup.
      The comparison to Arco was to illustrate that the printer is bottom-heavy, it almost has a built-in, secured paver at the bottom to help hold the printer stable while the printhead is moving.
      Regarding bed leveling, during the limited time we had working with the printer, we did not get the chance to ask further questions about how it works. Once we get Arco to our office in Florida for more intensive testing, we plan to conduct more thorough testing of the bed leveling system.

    • @robhall5622
      @robhall5622 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SliceEngineeringthat's not what the paver does. Unless you're bolting the printer to the concrete slab, it doesn't have any effect on the mass or centre of gravity of the printer as it's external to the printer and they aren't rigidly coupled. The point of the paver is to physically decouple the printer from the work surface to prevent resonance harmonics which cause the table to act as an amplifier for the vibrations the printer makes, and to work effectivly the paver should be sat on something that can deform elastically, like foam.
      On the bed levelling, your answer makes sense, but is at total odds with what is said in the video. "I wasn't able to get a whole lot of info about the way their bed levelling works because it's patented" is not the same as "we did not get the chance to ask further questions about how it works", and because something is patented doesn't mean it's secret, and various patent database searches has shown Phrozen own zero patents related to bed levelling on an FDM printer.
