Fact : Man can never have too many clamps. My old original Vice grip Cee clamps are the ones i reach for first. When welding. Probably because they are the first ones I ever had. As Far as the vice grip style goes i recommend staying away from Irwin. I bought one pair of Irwin for what it cost me to buy 5 of the unbranded ones. The unbranded ones were 5 times better than the Irwin. I even laid them all side by side and took pictures to compare them. It is obvious Irwin just bought the Vice Grip name and had no intent to continue with the Vice Grip quality. Chuck I really love the modification you did to the Fireball clamp. Small improvements like that are priceless to the user of the tool. I can see some pluses and minuses to the jaw design of his. One plus is when clamping very deep channels. All tools reveal their strengths and weaknesses +'s and -'s as used on different jobs. I can not resist asking are the Fireballs made in USA ? and for future reference the 3 fingered tool is called a 3rd hand. Great video thanks for sharing with us. (please excuse the lack of capitalization my left shift key is provoking me to throw the keyboard) And as Chuck would say "Winner Winner Chicken Diner"
Very nice clamp demos and modification on that anvil for welding access Chuck. Thanks for posting, motivates me to go out in the shop and play...HAD IT WITH SNOW STORMS...great video✔✔✔✔
All-in-all, I like your copper-clad deep jaw vise grip "hack" the best . ...... much better than running around the shop all the time looking for something to cushion the jaws on delicate work, and then fumbling around trying to position the cushions and hold them in place prior to clamping .
Nice demo video Chuck. The pointy weld holder, we had a fellow in our shop that came from an aerospace outfit, and he made a heavy solid one and he called it a "welding bird" . i am sure there are a lot of others out there. Anyhow cheers!
Nice one Chuck, use Jason's clamp with his squares. That is the purpose of the straight jaw so they don't conflict when using multiple clamps at one time.
Thanks. I'll have to get a set, maybe. I don't like the spinning handle thingy. And a clamp jaw that has slop always gets worse, with every day use in a welding fab shop.
I have not seen those vice grips with the dynamic jaw before today. It looks like there would be about the same range as a traditional pony clamp. I'm curious, do they slip teeth while you are tightening up the way pony clamps do? If not they look like they would be very useful. I've never had much luck with the pony clamps, they always seem to slip at the worst moment
I like your hack on the Fireball Clamp. You need a bigger shop for all the tools you have and are gong to acquire in the future. As ARW says "keep on keepin on".

Thanks for the advice about Irwin clamps. I will definitely think twice before getting one of those.

thanks for viewing and your comments, good point and I should have shown the use with his squares...
I have some vice grips that you missed non-mooring round smooth surfaces. I’ll show in my next video.
Thanks

Interesting segment Chuck, I hadn't seen quite a few of your clamp types as I don't think they are available down here in Australia.
