      Capitalism is the most humane form of government. You dont see the masses migrating to socialist, fascist, or communist countries. You see them.come to capitalist free societies like you saw in America during the industrial revolution when it was at the heyday of laissez-faire economics and all the immigrants came over and went back to get their family so they could experience the "American dream" as at that time the government stayed out of businesses. You also saw the poorest men and women who came from rags become some of the wealthiest and most successful people. The majority of charities today began during that time. In fact andrew carnagie gave away nearly 90 percent of his wealth to help others by building free hospitals, libraries and colleges and universities accross the US. He gave away what would be valued in today's money as around 370 billion dollars. Rockefeller, who also came from rags, did similarly. People look at capitalism as bad because they have never truly experienced full capitalism and individual freedom. Many look at capitalism as bad because it supports the self interest of the individual. Mistakenly, they confuse self interest with selfish, but this is not the case; mother Teresa or MLK fulfill their self interest just as much as Hitler or anyone else does. Its human nature to have self interest. It's the weak and unwilling who give up their freedom bit by bit in exchange for some form of protection; they first begin by being protected, and end up being subjected. It is hard to free people from the chains they revere.

    I love Ron. The intention was clearly to make a character diametrically opposed to Leslie but still maintain the level of respect and dignity that often does not exist in politics.
    Interesting to note that neither Ron nor Leslie give much political opinion beyond their opposing views on the role of government. Leslie in particular could probably swing as a moderate or center-left.

    • @kaoko111
      @kaoko111 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Watching the show i really don't know how a libertarian should feel about Ron.
      I did read some libertarian works and for me it sucks at every level, but for me the interesting part is that those old Ayn Rand novels that libertarians love so much an take it as a bible have characters that in theory look for the same as Ron but are very unlike him.
      For example, in the Rand's books the rich people are this demi god full of virtue people who can do no wrong and knows EVERYTHING, the objective of course is to state that rich people is always right in what they do and so on. Those books in My opinion sucks major ass but is clear that they are different from Ron.
      Both parts wants a small goverment, are selfish and reject any kind of helping others. But, as stupid as it is, Rand REALLY believed every single bullshit idea she spew in his whole bitchy life. Ron in the other hand look like he just takes his on convenience and Made a personal conviction (far as i know he never uses the world "libertarian" for himself) is just that his convenience, lack of empathy and so on are just traits of himself that are ALSO rooted in libertarianism.

      @@kaoko111 In the video, Ron does define himself as a libertarian in his barbecue discussion with Andy. He is also quite strict on that it is a definition separate to either conservative or liberal.

    • @Tunkkis
      @Tunkkis 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kaoko111 This all seems like a massive strawman, but I'll give you the benefit of doubt and bite.
      Rand actually despised libertarians. She was an objectivist. Libertarianism and objectivism are mainly similar to each other in so far as both are individualistic and appreciate free markets.
      Libertarianism is really a spectrum of ideas ranging from classical liberalism, through minarchism, to voluntar(y)ism (often called anarcho-capitalism).
      Libertarians don't "reject helping others", we reject the notion that forcing people into helping is moral. Rather that the government taking my money through taxation without consent, I'd much rather help people and society on my own terms.

    • @kaoko111
      @kaoko111 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Tunkkis Rand despised EVERYBODY. She was a horrible HORRIBLE human being. She didn't even lived by her word. At the end of her life if she died rejecting social asistance then people to this day would still Say "she died cause she rejected any help like she preach". But no, the bitch didn't put out her money where her Big mouth was. I'm glad she died in assistance from socialized medicine, not only because i think is the moral thing to do for any human being (no matter if they have money or not), but also because she disproved her awful ideology before dying.

      He's a bit of a caricature, but no more so than Leslie Knope or anyone else on the show. I'm pretty sure the writers slant to the left, but they're also willing to show when he's right. For example, the episode where Leslie fights to subsidize the highbrow video store, which ends up with the government having given money to what became a porn palace. He was right..... the market had no demand for it and the business model of renting DVDs was going away. It should have been left to die. City Hall bailing them out didn't preserve anything, and let to a regrettable farce funded by taxpayer dollars. We also see when Ben and Chris come to town they value him over Leslie because his philosophies lend themselves better to fiscal responsibility. And he has a positive effect on Leslie, who manages to make things like the Unity Concert and Harvest Festival huge successes through business sponsorships rather than government funding.

    • @Lucy-ng7cw

    • @rickyhurtado
      @rickyhurtado 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just look up 'combover' on google and you'll see the hairstyle that Ron sports is in fact labeled as a Combover. Yes, you're going to see balding men, but you'll also see others who have a full head of hair doing the combover. This is a ridiculous argument to be honest. My original point was that his hair switches sides from clip to clip and someone had to come along to start some little 'to be precise' discussion. I feel dumb for even giving in to this lol

    • @vindiesel9919
      @vindiesel9919 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you actually watched the show you would notice that his 'side part' switches after the first season. Presumably after the success of it's initial run, the show spent more of its budget on stylists. No, his haircut isn't a comb-over. Of course you can google it and get your desired results. That's because every comb-over is a side part, but not every side part is a comb over. Your argument is ridiculous because of it's ignorance.

      You have completely missed the point of the character. Ron's best moments are when he compromises with others, and Ron treats men who aren't like him, who aren't as traditionally masculine, who don't look the same as him, with a healthy respect. Ron would never be found ranting about 'PC' and 'feminised America' or whatever bullshit that's all supposed to mean. Ron recognises his male friends aren't as traditionally masculine, and he supports them anyway. You haven't understood the point of the character at all.

    I wish Ron Swanson was a character that we could see play a guest role in a lot of other tv shows.... It would have been so cool to see him on a show like Scrubs... Or shows like Two and a Half Men, Southpark, etc... His character is so damn good it would be great to see him on pretty much anything, anywhere...
    A Ron Swanson podcast would be pretty funny!

    I'm fairly certain that liberals wrote his character into the show in order to make fun of conservatives, but instead they just created an awesome man!

    • @nickglasston4715
      @nickglasston4715 8 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Except he's not a conservative. He hates Republicans also. He's a Libertarian. And yes the writers of the show created him to mock and show how ridiculous Libertarian ideas are.

    • @AndJusTIceForRob
      @AndJusTIceForRob 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Libertarian is a fairly conservative construct, but that's more subjective than it is objective. The writers must be fairly far-removed from reality to want to write his character to mock Libertarians.

      BlueAcid9 If humans were perfect creatures, yeah Libertarianism might work. But humans are greedy, hateful and violent creatures. Letting people run wild would send us back to the dark ages. There's a reason why the countries with a mix of strong socialism and capitalism culture and society are the countries with by far the highest standards of living on the planet. For example, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Finland. We in the US are falling behind everyday because we're letting corporations do whatever they want, even decide our laws. It's getting ridiculous.

    • @AndJusTIceForRob
      @AndJusTIceForRob 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +Nick Glasston socialist countries' high cost of living comes from their high taxes. Yes, people are greedy, etc. that's why socialism doesn't work.

    he slipped up there about the Parks being run by corporations. corporations are an imaginary government created concept. without government there can be no corporations, only businesses.
    other than that this is beautiful. I would almost consider buying a tv to possibly watch this show if I weren't so sure the rest of it is complete garbage.
