    While studying under Frank personally in 1979 in Santa Monica we were greeted by Jack LaLang running by and he stopped to chat while Frank & I sat in his convertible VW bug outside World Gym, this was just before he opened Zane Haven and had that devastating groin tear by his pool. Frank, like myself, was a math teacher and stated loudly at the World Gym that this was the 'Calculus of bodybuilding' we were studying as I took copious notes. Venice Beach was quite the gallery of top talent as they worked out in that outside gym. Joe Gold was very cool when we met him at his World Gym after selling the Gold's Gym name.
    Even today I wake with my daily workout of 1,000 crunches, 100 rows, 10 ab rolls, and a minute arm hang from a bar as recommended by Frank. His training helped me excel at a martial arts career, and allows me to massively enjoy retirement with a pain-free youthful body.
    Thanks, Frank!

      1000 Crunches? I'm guessing you had to work up to doing that many? Has it caused any back issues?
      The 100 rows, do you mean barbell rows? Glad you're enjoying retirement anyway.

    Frank's physique of 70's is my favourite. Still muscular, but rather than crazy big it was symetrical, aesthetic and well defined. You have to also have good genetics, cause if you don't have a good shoulders - hips ratio it will be a lot harder to get this look, but you still have to put an amazing amount of work to get such results.

    That was very logical, and excellent advice. I totally agree with this philosophy. In my humble opinion, it's healthier, more sustainable, and more natural. He had good mass, and not too much to maintain good cardiovascular conditioning. And yes, his physique had more beauty and elegance than some of the more massive, stockier builds. Great presentation.

    • @odessafile75
      @odessafile75 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @pingufromindia He should have won the 76 Olympia which was given to Franco as well as possibly the 80 Olympia that was given to Arnold and the 82 Olympia which was given to Chris Dickerson. I felt Samir deserved the 83 Olympia which he won .

    • @odessafile75
      @odessafile75 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @pingufromindia Did you ever meet Frank Zane when he was at his peak in size/shape 1972-1983 ? If you are a young person ( under 55-60 I realize that would not have been possible)I met him in 1979/1980 when he guest posed at the Canadian Championships in Montreal/ Hamilton a few weeks before the Olympia in Columbus/Sydney. He was not "small" and certainly more massively built than a swimsuit model at least for the time. I'm a little taller than Zane with a similar bone structure. You are correct that the steroids they all took allowed then to obtain/retain mass with leanness. I eventually got up to 185-232 lbs in my 40s/ early 50s ( leaner at 185-200) but as I did not take steroids, thyroxin etc coupled with injuries I never competed but I built an impressive physique.
      Arnold is obviously much more massive but relative to his height and bone structure Zane was quite competitive with a more balanced physique than Arnold. There is a bodybuilder named Bill Grant who is famous for his huge biceps and great abs who competed in the 1976 Olympia who said Zane should have beat Columbu ( who was a more massive bodybuilder)

    • @odessafile75
      @odessafile75 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @pingufromindia I think Zane by his own admission was not in his best shape in 75 and Franco , Ed Corney and Albert Beckles placed higher in his weight class. Franco looked great in 75.

    Zane was my favorite modern bodybuilder along with Larry Scott, Reeves, Ortiz and Zabo Kazewski(?)! The 60's and 70's were a great time to begin bodybuilding for strength and health and guys like Zane inspired us! None of my crowd knew what steroids were, so we thought we could get as big as the pros if we worked hard enough! We didn't get that big but we had a blast trying and achieved strength, health, looks and athletic ability which is a good thing!

    I am a big believer of arnold but i still feel 1980 olympia title should have gone to frank zane..... With all due respect to Arnold Schwarzenegger, frank zane was in better shape in 1980 and Arnold only had big arms and less symmetry

      Agreed. Actually Mike Mentzer, Boyer Coe, Zane, and many others all looked better than Arnold.

      Keep in mind...symmetry means right side vs. left not upper vs lower. Most people don’t understand what symmetry is.

      I had heard many talk about Mentzer being the most likely winner. Not here to debate anyone especially since it was 40 years ago... just adding to the conversation 👍
