- ISP said in a release Harlis Steven Hoover allegedly defrauded a man he borrowed thousands from. Officials also found multiple instances of "ghost employment" by Hoover where he would take care of personal businesswhile claiming to be on duty as the police chief.
Everyone involved with his appointment to chief should also be investigated.

Yes, but does it make it harder for the accusers to come forward and testify? It's really hard to report some of these crimes, especially in a small town. You get a lot of pushback from other's.

12k bail is a slap in the face to the tax payers. Anybody else would be locked up until their court date or a bond that they couldn't afford would have to be posted

What if that is all the judge is limited to by law? Judges must also abide by the law, too. If the state legislature sets a bail for a crime at a certain level, judges cannot arbitrarily go above it.

$12.5K for bail on 17 felonies? That's a great deal and leads me to believe that he will be treated preferentially. Not only with the charging of further misdeeds, but with his prosecution and, if warranted, sentencing. E.g. The cop in Glendale, Arizonia that dragged a passenger out of a car and tased him in the groin because the passenger wouldn't provide ID. The cop didn't get jail or probation and only had to pay $115 in court costs. The cop did have to forfeit his peace officer license, but he gets to keep his pension and his disability payout.

In Indiana, a Level 6 felony is the least serious felony offense. The maximum sentence for a Level 6 felony is 2.5 years in county jail and a fine of up to $10,000 .

If the chief was that bad, I’m sure his deputies were also fabricating time cards and running a corrupt department together. As one that's been aware of corruption within law enforcement, it's nice to see some brought to light... be even better to see actual justice served. So many know & have known of this type of corruption, as there is a long standing joke regarding fulfilling gov contracts (for instance: the joke of 5 road crew guys standing around for hrs watching 1 guy work= fraud of lesser severity; cops using state issued equipment, vehicle, & status to provide security for private business... It goes on & on, many of us witness this fraud & corruption on the daily and just accept it as the norm) it's surprising to see something actually being done.

How do such people get positions of such power? These types of things don't just happen spontaneously and it is the culture and environment of Law Enforcement that they are above the law and the law does not apply to them. Since nearly all officers have this type of mentality the cover ups and criminal obstruction to hold these men and women accountable is a continuous uphill battle. Law Enforcement is the only position I know of where you don't even have to know your job: most officers know nothing of the laws and statutes they must uphold let alone any of the constitutional privileges afforded to all. It is disgusting to think these people can kill another person with little to no consequence.

As far as cameras in the court room go, it is all public record and should not be dis-allowed, in matter of fact there should be a live stream on the internet for every courtroom proceeding no matter how small or large subject matter.

The right to a speedy trial tends to be waived by defendants, via their attorney's advice. If you do not waive it, the prosecution has to be prepared to move forward in the timeframe specified by statute in your particular jurisdiction.
I fully agree that the bond in the case is low though. And that most likely does indicate some preferential treatment, imo.
