I've been seeing a lot of bad talk of last year's HP Omen model lately. I thought HP Omen's were one of the better options? A few months back when I was in the market for a new laptop I was actually considering an HP Omen with an RTX 3070, but went with my 2022 Legion 5i with a 3060 140w/i7 12700H combo instead. They were priced about the same. It's been about 4 months and I couldn't be happier with my choice but I didn't know HP had these sorts of issues.

I got this laptop a couple months ago in India at an insane price of 100k INR (1234 USD) mainly because of AE features, battery life, VRAM and ofc performance. Excellent laptop, I do agree about the hinge that's the only downside to this laptop from my experience with it, thankfully it's not a deal-breaker at all.
Good review, although a few points:
    (1) 6650M's TGP is 120W not 111W, and it actually goes well beyond that because of "Smarkshift Max", I've seen it get 134W while playing Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, 134W is the highest I've seen yet, no idea of the actual limit.
    (2) Your battery life results seem a bit off as I regularly get 9 hours with normal use (web browsing etc), although I do use Edge instead (Chrome is known to eat battery life) and I set the display to 60hz on battery.
    (3) There are keyboard lighting effects in a app inside the Omen gaming hub called "Light studio"
    (4) And you forgot to mention an important feature called "Smart Access Graphics" its basically an auto MUX which changes the primary GPU on the fly according to your needs. It works really well on my unit, although some have reported problems with it look that up if you're interested, mine works fine no problems.

I have the Legion 7 2022, which is also an AMD Advantage laptop. And I got 8 hours on it with light use (obviously with the screen at lower brightness and at 60 hz, but also with the RGB off and the system on Quiet mode).
Though there's no Smart Access Graphics, my laptop still has a standard MUX switch, but it requires a reboot and about a 1 minute wait before it starts to boot up again.

I have this laptop and found out it has 1RX16 (single rank x 16) ram installed. Saw a video on Linus tech tips showing how much that ram bottle necks the AMD CPU. Replaced the ram with 64gb 2RX8 (dual rank X 8) and it had improved the performance on it. Not so much 64gb but the 2RX8 has sped it up and frame rate is even higher now. 1RX16 is cheap memory that some manufacturers have installed on AMD laptops and end up capping performance which makes Intel look good.

I got the 2021 version with 5800h and 3070 for 1100 usd, for the hardware you are getting its a pretty good deal because in my country, other laptops with 3070 costs more than 1600, in my real world usage, the hinge doesnt really bother me that much but the cooling performance is not that good, the gpu and cpu temps are, 95c cpu and 77c gpu while running a demanding game, and the fans are quite loud, battery life is normal for a gaming laptop but the cpu power budget is not that high in synthetic benchmark, only given 55w max at 3.5ghz all core so the cinebench score is quite low at around 11.500, and the AMD version doesnt have a mux switch.

I have a similar model, same CPU, chassis and I/O, but with an Nvidia 3060 GPU.
I have encountered one problem with it, which was rather strange. The network card can "unplug" itself if you set the laptop too hard on a table, or aren't careful when carrying it in a bag
By putting the laptop hard on a table I don't mean to drop it, I put one side on a table and the other slipped out of my hand and the laptop dropped like 2 centimetres, and that was enough to disconnect the network card.
To fix the issue, simply press on connectors and it will start working again, otherwise you won't have the internet and Bluetooth. Happened to me twice already in the last four months or so.
It's good that they give an option to change the network card with this iteration, since it was soldered with the previous model.

@Pedro I have a 2022 Legion 7 (that's also AMD Advantage) with an AMD Ryzen 6800H & an AMD Radeon RX 6700M GPU. It has better build quality, a 16:10 2560x1600 165 hz fast response time 500 nits screen with a MUX switch (no Smart Access Graphics though, so a reboot is necessary) and the laptop also has USB4. I think the 2022 Legion 7 & 7i were the gaming laptops of the year. Now it looks like Lenovo broke things that were fine (like the ports and design) and didn't change things that needed to be changed (like the screen being the same as 2021 except for a 240 hz refresh rate rather than 165 hz).

@@vladimirljubopytnov5193 Good point! I actually noticed the DELETE being above BACKSPACE, which by itself can make sense (in text editors it works like backspace, but removes characters from the other side). However, since it's TKL-ish layout - not so much anymore. PRINT SCREEN is also moved (in place of PAUSE/BREAK) in favor of proprietary/branded button (which is most likely useless) and what it looks like a calculator key (which does what? opens calculator? pls). Not to mention power button location is potentially prone to misclick.

    • @pixelated_horizon
      @pixelated_horizon ปีที่แล้ว

The rx 6650m seems more good and also the more Vram makes it more future proof.. ofcourse the Nvidia DLSS is better, it depends on what TGP the rtx 3060 you mentioned runs on. And just so you know the rx6650m runs at 100-120W TGP and the 3060 ranges anywhere from 60w to 115w depending on the tgp the performance varies significantly and also the omen 16 has a mux switch which improves gaming drastically. So unless the 3060 is a higher TGP one and ray tracing doesnt matter all that to you (Nvidia performs a little better in this field) I would say the Omen 16 is more bang for bucks..

Not too long after the fix, i found that whenever i fully drained the battery. When i turn it on, as it charges. The wifi could not connect. I checked everything with the drivers and couldnt find a fix. Only fix was letting it charge to 100%. Then it would work again. There were also some thermal problems here and there.
