I retired 3 years ago from upstate NY...big house and a garage full of stuff and toys. A year before retirement I started throwing stuff away, giving stuff away or selling stuff. Got the entire house empty and sold it. Drove away from it with only what would fit in my truck. Talk about feeling like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I was free...liberated from clutter and stuff I didn't need. Highly recommend going minimal.
That is exactly what we did, 8 yrs ago, Former NYer also. Downsized and decluttered a year before our move to Las Vegas. Bought a new truck a few months before the move and just took whatever fit in there. No regrets.....
Take any towels and blankets to your local animal shelter. They always need them especially during the winter months. Goodwill, I think will pick up any clothes, books, CDS, DVDs and household items you don't want. I know they pick up in my area. You can also donate to the Salvation Army.
I don't have a lot of "stuff", but the things I do have are meaningful and important to me, and I feel like others should appreciate the things. But I'm sure no one would, even family members. So sad.
I save a few boxes from Amazon orders because they are great for putting things in to donate to Goodwill! The other ones i breakdown and recycle. Keep a few boxes at a time, but recycle the rest.
As a collector of old ("vintage") stereo equipment, I find the original boxes and packing add value and help me to safety ship something that I sold on online.
The big C lockdown a few years ago got me good, not being able to go out to eat, i now own a smoker, a griddle and a bbq. have not use the griddle or smoker more than 3 times... tried to give em away but found out no one wants em, to big and to heavy. the older folks are in my same boat, downsizing, and the younger genertions only want to eat out or order in, cooking is a hassle for them. i went through my ginormous toolbox and boxed up half of it in small cardboard boxes and taped em shut, i leave them in the back of my truck when i go to hardware stores and usually they are gone within a few weeks, my trash was someones treasure. I was going to buy a small shed to store stuff in but after going thru a 10x12 i already own and realizing i dont really need it, i need to just make a pile and call the junk people to haul it off. I did that once already and he was amazed at the stuff i was tossing out. he told me he would take the stuff to his house to go thru before taking it to the dump. so the title of this video is spot on, most dont want my stuff.
Another man's trash is another man's treasure. Give to the homeless it will be their treasure. I think I commented before that I downsize once a year and I do piles - keep, donate, throw way. My holiday decorations in plastic containers labeled and out of the way. I'm sure where you are they have those large containers that look like dumpsters but they are for clothes and shoes to donate. Yes, get rid of the boxes you can always get boxes when in need. If you don't have a basement, do you have a small shed to store what you want to keep but not in the house. If it's inexpensive don't think about it just throw it out.
I have so much stuff to purge. Clothes the Goodwill will sell by the ton for rags. Pillows toss. Towels donate to animal rescue with blankets too. I would keep 7 towels. There is so much I need to dump. It is not easy.. Working on that now. Keep looking up!
Do this your own way buddy you are welcome to procrastinate. I solved problems after divorce by renting a storage unit in a big facility well managed etc Even dexter stored his bodies in a ice box in storage lol
How about he take it to the hardware store tomorrow and buy a replacement instead of keeping an old, broken useless door spring thrown in a box somewhere that I guarantee will be out of sight, out of mind. That door will never get repaired if he doesn't take care of it now. Viola, more junk/useless clutter.
I remember a friend came over to my house because they when you in town and they laughed and said you are a bit of a hoarder haha when I went over to their house they had hundreds of boxes and I said and you told me I'm a hoarder wow
Your title says "I can't give this stuff away", but yes you can. Pet shelters, animal rescues are in dire need of blankets, clean towels, extra cleaning supplies. Homeless shelters need those too. As for coats, just think of how thankful a person would be with a warm coat, sweat shirts, gloves, hoodies, and even used/good condition shoes. Instead of saying I can't, say i will.
@929cbr_rr Homeless shelter. Pull up offer free items. Dose make house look good without to much. Put out on street see how fast items get taken. Have good day.
HEALTH ALERT: cardboard has lots of mits and spores... always get rid of all cardboard.. you end up breathing in all the mold to your lungs.. not good... get some plastic bins for the real stuff that you want to keep.................

Take your old blankets to a dog shelter. While your there, look for a best friend. Then buy an electric blanket for the two of you.
Great video. Some people find it so easy to clutter. For me, with every item, it's like giving away my best friend.

I live in Nevada. After what's happening in Los Angeles and my own life experiences of being homeless things are just things.

Towels donate to dog shelter and blankets. Or a groomer.
Just watch a few episodes of Hoarders and if your brain is still firing normally, you'll do what needs to be done in your abode.
Right?! When I watch that show, I want to start working in my attic and get rid of stuff.

Everything has a place, and it is important to always return it to it's place. You may not be able to find it again if you don't.
3 is the number interior designers use, less is more.
Maybe just take a picture of the spring thing?

Give it away! When you die it will be thrown away by whoever clears you your house. Is your house willed?
Lots of homeless could use this help
Most people's items end up at Goodwill. I recycle. 🎉
Even goodwill doesn't want most of my crap !

Did not know this!
Have a garage sale and also tell all your rellies that you’ll be leaving all your money to charity.
Donate to a good cause, and take it off your taxes…
