One thing Rebirth got bang on, just as the Original did, is that sense of dread and impending doom as you were walking through the city down to Aerith
While people can argue if the scene after this was better in the og, its undeniable that this whole sequence with this ost brought a whole new feeling to the scene, it goes under the skin.
Man, when I heard the motif start to come in at 2:26... my stomach straight up did a death drop.
Don't know if I was ever so nervous in a Video Game like here?
I diden't run, I walked to Aerith.
This is so beautiful, it gave me chills when i first heard it while recording this part.
Not sure I can describe the feeling at 2:43 walking up those stairs and seeing Aerith praying the first time. Not knowing what would come next. I wanted her to be saved more than anything. But just could not escape the thought that Aerith surviving that moment might not be the best outcome in the end. I hated the idea that Aerith had to become part of the Lifestream so Sephiroth could eventually be overcome. I hated the idea that Sephiroth had to be the cause of her death, and the cause of immense sadness for Cloud, Tifa, and everyone else. I wanted so badly for there to be another way. Conflicted doesn't even begin to describe how I felt in that moment. Everything about this scene captures that internal conflict absolutely perfectly. The lighting, color, textures, Cloud's scream when trying to overpower the whispers pulling on his sword, and especially the damn music hit this moment perfectly.
Game of the year
Peak gaming moment. Probably nothing will ever come close to this in terms of excitement and curiosity of what will happen next, tension, atmosphere, awe and dread. Perfectly executed in terms of visuals, music, direction.. Every time motif at 2:25 start i get chills.
3:33 Choir here sounds very similar to a theme played in Chapter 1 in shinra manor when Sephiroth is reading about Jenova
I remember being having mixed feelings in this moment. The music completely enraptured me, and at the same time i had a sense of complete dread over what was going to happen. Can't wait for part 3!

i knew when we first see the misty forest what was coming.... i knew i was in some ways not really ready, would it be soul crushing like OG death? were they going to change the story like they did in remake?
This music just cements that feeling, the mystery of what could come while knowing what should...
On my second time through, I decided not to push the buttons at the end and it turns out nothing happens. Cloud holds the sword with or without your input, and the game continues on exactly the same. Straight up David Caging it.
Edit: Same thing if you don't struggle against the restraints as Nanaki in the Chapter 13 flashback
I bet we got this convoluted artistic mess because of modern ratings standards. I bet they pressured square enix about how much Gore they can show.

@@ImperialHarbingeryeah but in order to do that they had to use that mist affect. I wonder if they decided not to do it here because of that?
Theres clearly a reason to the changes made aside from not having gore, they clearly are building up a new plot of false memories and different timelines merging together.
