You should make tutorials on each section, in depth as to what elements end up in each

Very helpful, thx KSADE Is there any chance we can get the project file to see the structure up close? I can't seem to get a good screen shot for my notes. Thanks again.

Thank you for the cool video. What software are you using to create EDM songs? I am a 100% beginner so any tips on what software to start with will be appreciate it.

Germanito006 He uses Ableton Live as DAW, which is probably the most popular for EDM, along with Fruity Loops, check these two out and see what works for you. Some people like Virtual Riot use weird stuff like Cubase and still have amazing results, so really explore and try using some DAW for a while, if you feel the need you can always change. Plugins (VST) for effects and instruments/synths are really important too but this is more complex, so many stuff out there...

I started doing the same thing you recommended. When I want to write a track I'll start listening to music similar to what I want to create, get ideas on a song structure based on that genre and start "filling in the blanks" for lack of a better term. There's still a ton of creativity take needs to take place to create something people want to listen to a second time but like any art there's a recipe to roughly follow.

Hi! Can I think it like the verse the chorus? It is confusing a little bit with something like build up, drop, etc.

Hey dude, I know this vid is old but I love the Woo/scream you have just before the drop. Can you tell me where to find it please? I'd love to use it in a track I'm working on at the moment.

+Tom Riddle i don't remember the sample name ,but I'm sure its easy to find on splice sounds or to sample from a track . i think i also sell this session still on my website and the sample would be there. but its gotta be easy to find online I'm sure .So you can sample the video ,look on splice sounds for whoo vocal onsets or get the template called fizzle on my site . so theres a few ways to get it there .hope this helps.

I love that you did this tutorial but if I was starting from scratch again I'd like to know bar length (I get that that's a part of theory but most people starting out either want to start making tracks now and/ or want to see how this is applied in a track ) and how long each phrase should be or how many bars creates a section ( usually 2 or 4 bars long sometimes 8 or even 16 , but usually it's 4 groups of 4 metronome beats/clicks)

Hi! This video was very very interesting, thanks!
While writing a long question to you I guess I've found the answer myself.
I'll put the question anyway, as you or other could make useful comments.
    Ciao!
    "I agree there's a substructure made by 8 or 16 beats increments.
But, here comes my question, it is a bit articulated:
I want to layout my loops in a DJ friendly structure.
If my first drop occurs at bar 65 does a second drop need to occur at bar 129 and a 3rd at 192?
What I mean is: does this substructure of 8 - 16 blocks need to be repeated in a "superstructure"? Do we repeat this simmetry by organizing major structural events at multiples of 64 and 128... or not?
    Let's see what you've done:
You have 3 (odd number) repetitions of the drop material, than you take 4 bars for this little pause you've marked with "release", and then you start a build up section of (4 x 8) 32 bars + 8 MORE BARS for the effects that precede the 2nd drop: Your second drop comes at beat 93.
So, I can answer myself now by saying that, no, you don't feel forced to organize your superstructure by macroblocks of 8 bars multiples.
There's a certain point were you abandon symmetry and switch freely to taste for what concerns the duration of sections.
But why isn't this asymmetry pissing off DJ's, now?
Because it is in the middle of the build up?
Because it only affects large sections?
You ADD 4 bars for the pause after the drop, but you TAKE one bar for the "Vocal beat". Why?
Within EDM are there styles that are more strictly symmetric?"

+Giovanni Paolo Liotta Thanks for the kind words ...okay so i'll try and address your questions.... With a question of my own. Are you making music for Dj's to play or just music that sounds good? I ask because that should help you see your intentions when writing. If i making a 'Club track' for Dj's then i follow the structure strictly ,but if its just music that i went to make feel organic and more interesting in other ways than i am more free to arrange the track outside a traditional structure. I recommend to start with a strict structure and if it feels too 'generic ' or you have an idea to extend parts freely than do it. Dj's just mainly use the beginning and end of parts to transition if the structure isn't 'generic ' or traditional. Its the dj's job to figure that out,and your job as the producer to make something great...so nothing is a hard rule ,just following the structure rules is more of a guideline.I like to keep to the structure but not limited to it. Hope this helps.

      Hello mate!
Thanks a lot for your exhaustive answer!
Yes, yesterday I've analyzed some random dance tracks on ableton and I realized that certain materials call for a structure instead of another. There are certain atmospheres that shouldn't be forced into a rigid construction only for functional reasons. The composer has to realize if a set of loops "need" a traditional structure or if the resuting track would profit from a less conventional layout. Many thanks for the help and inspiration, ciao!

    101. I feel like I'm rather decent at structure. Going to see if I learn anything from this!

This is a great tutorial KSADE. As you may remember I am self taught, so it's great to know I've been on the right track structure wise. This week I was making a 24 bar intro and I felt I was making a mistake because I know they're usually 16/8 but this cleared that up for me.

I liking what you saying. But especially fact of being more "laconic" with phrases. Definitely in modern time it's better idea. Very good staff. Being producing for a long time I'm still getting in to thinking about structure all the time.

    • @Greenjah81
      @Greenjah81 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Also I totally agree about copy and pasting. There is nothing wrong about it. Especially if you capable of creating interesting twists and variations in the pasted parts. I like to write in chunks. You get the main idea usually and then music takes over.

what fx packs do u use and recommend?

    • @KSVDE
      @KSVDE  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It's usually just random ones from loopmasters.com or similar sites .then i'll make fx from the cymbals or use fx from those packs .
I recommend do it that way, teaches you alot in the long term and your sound becomes a bit more unique ,since everyone just uses the same vengeance samples ,which is only good to me if your trying to sound similar to other producers ,which isn't always a bad thing ,those packs are good and quick to use ,where making samples and searching for random packs takes alot more time but can lead to unique results.
