    Love your videos, Chad. Relatable! Yup, those little Airfix kits are wonderful. Still, haters gonna hate on Airfix. They did have issues with the quality of the plastic, etc, but gee, they have improved their kits.

      For sure. A vast improvement over the last few years. I never listen to the haters as most of them do more time complaining than actually building. Appreciate the good feedback. Happy Modeling!!

    The WILDCAT is my favorite aircraft from WW2... I have this kit...also have a ACADEMY 1/72 WILDCAT...with photo etch parts and a SQUADRON canopy... I also have three REVELL 1/72 WILDCATS... with the classic box art from I think late 60s 70s
    Built quite a few MONOGRAM 1/48 WILDCATS thru the years...all with different markings MARINE , US NAVY ,
    Wake island defenders. , BUTCH O’ HARE GUADALCANAL DEFENDERS...OPERATION TORCH in North Africa...tough little airplane

    I’ve recently found your channel and will be following more of your uploads.
    Many compliments to you for your relaxed, modest and informal commentary as well as the great skills and techniques you introduce us to.
    I am really in awe of the steady hands you have when detail painting in the cockpit etc.. Also your confidence and care in airbrushing around the unmasked cockpit.
    How long did you leave the oil washes to dry before placing the decals? Or have you a speedy drying method? + What varnish do you then apply?
    Excellent work, thank you.

    • @FlyingSModels
      @FlyingSModels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the good words, Dave. I'm glad you found the channel and I hope that you continue to enjoy the build features and other uploads I make. I try to keep things relaxed since it is a hobby and that's what they are for, after all :) With regards to the oil washes, it depends on which ones. The oil filters I apply directly over the flat paint using a barrier of white spirits, I pretty much remove right away. The oil washes that I apply for the panel lines, I just let those dry about 15 mins or so before wiping them off with a paper towel. I've been using AK's Ultra Matte Varnish for most of my models but honestly, my current bottle has started producing some chalky results so I've come back over that with a coat of Model Masters Flat from a spray can. That's been giving me the finishes that I like and that are a little more durable. Thanks again for the feedback!

    Awesome, Chad ! I have a question regarding your oil paint technique... if I’m using MRP lacquer paint for my base, would putting mineral spirits on it lift the lacquer base coat?

    • @FlyingSModels
      @FlyingSModels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Johan. I appreciate the good words. I'm not sure that it would. I use it over AK Real Colors that are a lacquer based acrylic without any issues. I'd do a test run just in case, though. Let me know how it works so we can share with the community here. Thanks again!

    • @FlyingSModels

      Thanks, Brett. I have a dual grit 220/400 that I used. The 220 is a bit rough for the really soft Airfix plastic but the 400 works well.

    Q: the pin u used to re-scribe panel lines, is that just a sewing needle or a product that can be purchased online ?

    • @FlyingSModels
      @FlyingSModels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just use a regular straight pin and cut off the head with a pair of wire cutters. You can use a sewing needle too, of course. I think I might have an Amazon link to some cheap straight pins in the video description. Not sure, though. Hope this helps.

    I wish all colors were identified - Interior green with a dark wash, then a second unidentified sprayed color , followed by a lighter wash?

    • @FlyingSModels
      @FlyingSModels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really appreciate that kind of feedback and I'll incorporate those suggestions in the future. But until then, those lighter colors sprayed after the dark wash are successively lighter shades of interior green, lightened each time with yellow green oxide.
