In cinematic aspects, ''The Bridge on the River Kwai'' is truly a great achievement! Is David Lean at his best. I saw this movie once and I loved every second of it! Please Oscars, upload Alec Guinness winning Best Actor! Thank You!

Jean Simmons accepted it for him in 1958.

My favorite is PEYTON PLACE which has stood up quite well. PATHS OF GLORY has stood the test of time too. Today I find THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI a little tiring to watch, but it was a real Blockbuster in its day!

I see Hal Kanter's name in the credits. He wrote for the Oscar show all the way up to the 80th.

Had to be close between 12 Angry Men and The Bridge On The River Kwai.

The biggest snub at the 30th Academy Awards was obviously Plan 9 from Outer Space
That deserved to win all the awards especially Best Picture 😜
If you know what I’m referencing, I like you

I don't know if its something that you would have available in your archives (I don't think they were broadcasting Oscar on TV yet) but would love to see Ruth Chatterton giving the writing awards out in 1950.

Initially, Gary Cooper looks great; he was one of the best dressed men in Hollywood; wasn't it nice when the actors were required to attend the Oscars in white tie and tails? With respect to Sam Spiegel, as documented , he was a legendary character who produced The African Queen, On The Waterfront and Lawrence Of Arabia, in addition to Bridge On The River Kwai. Although the producer traditionally accepted the Best Picture Oscar, it would have been appropriate for David Lean to be on stage.

Unquestionably white tie is elegant but requiring men to wear them to the Oscars, of all things, in 1957 is kind of odd (especially when white tie was on its way out 20 years earlier - have you seen Downton Abbey?). And while Cooper was kind of elegant I think he was the most boring and stiff of all the actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Never got him. Just my opinion.

Could you please post the full opening to the 1999 Academy Awards telecast? It would be greatly appreciated and would complete the Whoopi Goldberg Oscar monologue collection.

Paths of Glory was a B or B+ movie. The stupid scene at the ned with the girl singing didn't really work.

Why did you optically zoom in when the clips were shown on the big screen? Even Bob said to back up to see the screen. You defeated the purpose. Boo.

THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI is a great film in my opinion, but it was not well deserved best Picture at all, it dont even deserved to be nominated. all the four other nominees exept for SAYONARA and PEYTON PLACEwhere much better and more deserving! Especcially 12 ANGRY MEN and most especially WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION. the most people actually Think and though 12 ANGRY MEN Wood have won best Picture, beacuse it is one of the most popular Movies evermade-but I seriusly disagree. dont get me wrong, I abseloty love 12 ANGRY MEN, but it still overrated. the meaning why I Think it is overrated is beacuse all the guys just sitt in the same room and say guilty or not guilty. WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION was also a cortroom drama as 12 ANGRY MEN, but there was not in the same room and the cinematography, the editing, the acting, the plot the direction and the costume design made that Movie much better than 12 ANGRY MEN in my opinion. Also, I actually dont Think WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION deserved best Picture even if it was the best of all the nominees-NIGHTS OF CABIRIA deserved best Picture instead, but was unfortantly not even nominated!! TWO EYES, TWELVE HANDS and SWEET SMELL OF SUCCES should also been nominated instead of THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI, PEYTON PLACE and SAYONARA. Also, in imdbs top 6 Movies of 1957 nune of them won any Oscar and only 2 of them where nominated here but lost! they are TOKYO TWILIGHT, TWO EYES, TWELVE HANDS, WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION, PATHS OF GLORY, THE THIRSTY ONE and 12 ANGRY MEN. and imo NIGHTS OF CABIRIA should have won best Picture!;)
