Note: I'm so glad everyone is finding this video and remembering the great times they had with it!! A lot of questions asking why a few speeches were edited out - When I uploaded the entire tape TH-cam claimed many copyrights on it (as it should). Unfortunately, three of these were blocking the video from even being played at all. I had to take out a Billy Crystal open, Marlon Brando's acceptance, and Vanessa Redgrave's speech in order for this video to not be blocked in this and other countries. I'm sure they are easy to find elsewhere if you really want to see them -
I had a blast watching this. So many memories. It's not the same now. Sadly.
And this, kids, is just a glimpse of what genuine talent really is ... and all the hard work that encompasses that. No auto-tune, no CGI, no endless chain of producers ... just people working hard at their craft to bring the best entertainment possible.
Have you noticed how all the sequels in movies these days are just a remake of the movie that was the original storyline that made the studio lots of money.?
The Starwars franchise-Aliens-Lethal weapon-Jason Bourne ad nauseous are in this hubris for making $$$.
@tr the original 3 star wars were pretty much there from Lucas's final drafts, he made certain concessions to the studio as to have complete artistic control, as for the others, especially the one's kk controlled with dissey.. 🤢🤡great job killing a franchise kate

I see Sally Kellerman is on here towards the end. I met Sally in 1976 when she was a guest at the hotel I worked in as a night auditor. Well Sally was a night owl, and every night she would come down and keep me company, she even answered the switchboard when I was busy. That was a great week, she was really amazing, she left me her address and invited me to visit and stay with her. Sadly I never took up her offer, but we did keep in touch for a few years by exchanging Christmas cards. She passed away last year, but I'll always remember that week with much fondness. Rest in peace Sally. XX

The last Oscar Ceremony with Will Smith slapping Chris Rock in the face, finally ended the Awards and died on that evening.
The Oscars will never be the same or as elegant, enjoyable or sophisticated as once was the case. The Night the Oscars DIED and the ratings prove it.
Will Smith was banned from the Academy awards after the famous slap and rightfully so!😮

It was impossible not to cry during Barbara Stanwick and William Holden…and then Barbara Stanwick. And then John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart. They don’t make them like that anymore.

It's a lot different than today's award shows. Back then actors were almost like royalty, now I don't know half the people that win awards. And back then they could make you laugh without one single swear word. Now that's talent to me.

Correction Chalie Chaplin did not have a self imposed exile to Switzerland 🇨🇭, he was vacationing with his family and was denied entry back in the USA 🇺🇸. Chaplin was very very hurt by Hollywood and the USA 🇺🇸 That last clip with Charlie that much more special. He was invited back by the academy & was in tears of joy and happiness to the warm welcome back

I worked at a video store in the early 90s and we used to watch this all the time. Barbara Stanwyck was the most glamorous movie star. She was stunning

Loved this, took me back when people were so nice, no swearing, no fighting, no nip, tuck, suck and botox dress sense was so elegant in those days, and.....the movie of those days had real meaning, nice lines, no swearing and lovely music. Not like today's music, so loud one can't hear the dialog. Now, gone, are all the old good actors. 🙏🏻RIP🙏🏻 Modern movies and actors aren't a patch on u 😉❤️

It was a great thing that the Academy HONORED Charlie Chaplin, I was a big fan as little boy watching his film with my dad many many years ago, God bless you Mr. CHAPLIN.
No one hosted the Oscars better than Billy Crystal, with Gil Cates producing. Absolutely the best.✌️

my favorite Oscar moment was when Barbara Stanwyck thanked her "Golden Boy" William Holden when she got her honorary Oscar. Then in a typical New York City moment my phone rang and the guy on the other end was gushing about it and we chatted for a while and then we realized it was a wrong number!!

I remember watching this when it first came out....and when Charlie Chaplin came out to accept his Oscar, it might be the first one I have clear memories of...it makes me tear up every time.

This was a treat to see! I had forgotten what a Fabulous singer, dancer, entertainer Liza Minelli was. She mesmerized the audience in her day & probably could still do so today.

Greatest Oscar's Moment for me was Ingrid Bergman's acceptance speech when she received her 1974 Oscar. Loved her then, and still do now. ❤️
My favorite Oscar moment is when the Streaker ran out and David Niven had the perfect punch line.

I had this show on VHS for years; watched it all the time! Was heartbroken when our VCR finally conked out some 8-10 years back, so I had given the tape away; been regretting that ever since and had been hoping this would get put on DVD someday...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for putting this up on TH-cam!!!! Ha ha - just read some books about what old Hollywood stars were up to, the addictions, affairs and other crimes. Just because on TV they were more restricted in their behaviour does not mean any of them had more class than anyone today. Are you saying that Meryl Streep has no class?
@@kevinwilson3609 unfortunately, class and morals don't always go hand in hand. so i suppose what i mean by class is that they didn't wear their immorality like a badge of honor. yes, i think Meryl Streep has class and so do many others. But a lot of newer/young actors and other performers are fairly trashy these days.

Got this as VHS Xmas gift in '92 and watched every year before Oscar's then a DVD copy until around 2012. Have it entirely memorized. Nice to have a watchable format again. Thx

I have looked for this for YEARS
Over the years, the best Oscar Ceremonies were in the 70s, 80s, and the 90s. Those shows were more elegant and with class including how the actors/actresses conduct and present themselves on stage. Unlike now. Actors and actresses are more concern on what they will preach while on stage.

Thanks for posting this!! I had this tape for a long time, it's great. I always wondered if they'd do other time periods, like from 1951-1971, but this was the only one they ever did.
Here we bring together the art of acting, directing, writing, etc., etc. I am so thankful for those who brought together these arts and sciences together, but also for those people who helped me appreciate them. Now in my eighth decade, I know that I will hopefully enjoy and be entertained into the unknown.

2023 and I’m watching this program. It is so overwhelming and sad to think most have died now and they were great actors one and all and I miss their greatness which they put on the screen for us, never the likes to be seen again. Swearing, sex, nudity wasn’t necessary in their films they just got,on with it without the shit you tend to see today. I enjoyed that programme even though it was such a sad one. Anyway, Thankyou to you all up there and may you all RIP thanks for the memories. ❤

A shame the Academy didn't do another one for the next 20 yrs. A missed opportunity. I have this gem on VHS and still have a player for what wasn't put on discs and family movies.

THANK YOU for uploading this. I watched this so many times as a kid I wore out the tape. My roommates in college were sick of me watching this so often. Great memories, and very sad that it is all gone.
I stopped watching when they devoted a paltry 5 sec to Elizabeth Taylor in the middle of the In Memoriam. She WAS the Oscars for the previous 40 years. She's still the reason actresses borrow millions of dollars worth of jewelry, except she actually owned hers. Truly the last real movie star.
