  • I try to tackle the sapling stumps with the Land Pride Grapple with no luck. What do you all think of the Stump buckets out there? It looks like they may be hard on the loaders but maybe not. Let me know in the comments if you think it's a good product and if you think it would help in this application.

Way to go on the 1000 mark! Grapple is a great tool but can’t do much stump work unfortunately. Never used a stump bucket. I have a Kubota BX 23S with a backhoe. It’s small but does quite a job on stumps. I would recommend getting the mini excavator for your situation. It will make short work of your stumps. Have fun!

Congrats Dave 🍾. A stump bucket would work but I didn't know about the negative comments out there 🤔. you could try using the front bucket 👍🏻🤷🏼‍♂. Have a great week Dave 🙋🏼‍♂

Congrats on the 1000 subs Dave. With regards to a stump bucket. I have watched several videos where individuals have successfully removed stumps but I personally would never use one on my LX. I have literally removed hundreds upon hundreds of small, medium and large stumps. Many with a shovel and axe, many with the backhoe on my previous tractor, many by pulling with the tractor draw bar, many with an excavator and many with a mechanical advantage pulley system. No matter what way I removed the stumps I have found the best method is to always break up the dirt just to the outside of the stump then work closer to it. Also, when pulling or pushing just about every stump has a weak side or weak angle. If you find the weak angle the stump will come out considerably easier. Good luck on getting the stumps out.

Hi Paul and thanks for reaching out. I have done similar by working around the stumps and hacking away at them then removing them with my grapple. These little ones are so scattered and clumped it's going to be a lot of handwork. Which is ok, I guess. It will just be a work in progress. There are so many.

Congratulations! I think a stump bucket could probably get the job done on those, but it helps if you can get at the stump from multiple directions with smooth/level ground. The backhoe is a step up from that. It has way more power in a much more concentrated area, especially if you go with a root hook. Also you don't need to have the tractor straight on from where you are digging which is a big help. Watching this I wanted to lend you mine but I'm afraid the way these machines are setup it comes with a subframe on the tractor so it would have to be the whole thing. Even with all that I'm considering renting a mini excavator for a weekend. Just like the backhoe is a step up from the stump bucket, being able to move and dig at the same time would be another huge step.

Much appreciated, Jim. I do think for the immediate, I should have a mini. I could get a lot done in a few days. Thanks for your input.

Tooth bar can help but I would not expect it to get a stump removal job done in our rocky soil BTW. It's really good at scratching up and loosening compact non-rocky soil. Not as great at prying out the basketball-sized boulders we have buried all over the place.

One of my most used attachments is my Woodland Mills stump grinder. It is on the back of my LX more often than not in the warm months. It’s great for getting rid of stumps and makes great ballast weight as well. Thanks for the video and congrats on 1k

Good morning Dave, Congratulations 1000 subscribers 👍I agree, this youtube community is a great source of information and support. Like you I have heard mixed reviews on the stump bucket, but I think if you take your time it can do a nice job! I feel very fortunate to have been able to get a backhoe with my B2601. It does a nice job removing stumps. Take care, Ben

Hi Ben! Yes, I think it might work as well. I, for financial and storage reasons didn't choose the backhoe addition to my 2650. It was 11k more 4 years ago to add and I said I could rent a lot of times to cover that price. Miss the convenience of having one in the garage though. I know that would do the job for sure.

Congratulations on hitting 1000 subscribers! I'd say look into a toothbar for your bucket. Once you have them cut off at ground level you can mow that area.

The Stump bucket is certainly a valuable tool for the cost. There's a bit of a learning curve, but they can be efficient. I have alot of us on mine. However, you want to see a productive attachment, look up Woodland Mills Stump Grinder (nicer than the Baumalight). For the price, this thing is a HECK of a value! It's paid for itself over and over again.

Thanks. I have salivated over that grinder. I have one of their wood chippers and they make wonderful equipment. I'll save up the money. Thanks for the advice.

My very first thought was a stump bucket would make quick work of that. As for the negative comments about them, I disagree. If you take your time, there is no reason why it should damage your machine.

Thank you. A much cheaper alternative to adding a backhoe and for what little use I do actually need of it.
