They were the same show when it originally aired in 1989.
Mondays through Thursdays would be the Super Mario Bros Cartoon, Fridays would be the Zelda Cartoon. The Live Action Segments were Monday through Friday and are what connected the shows
My brother and I used to watch this show all the time as kids. When my mom realized they were playing the Zelda theme she started cracking up.

I'm not a huge fan of Sonic after his downfall over 3D games he has that almost ruined the series... Although I heard Frontiers has mixed reactions over fans.
Looking back at it this series seems to have been written, acted, and animated at air time. All without rehearsing. Or a complete script.

The Super Show is responsible for many things. The Bros enjoying Italian cuisine, Luigi being nervous, Toad’s shrill voice, a template for what the central characters should sound like in general, etc. but I had no idea this show was quite possibly also responsible for Mario’s first ever mamma mia (18:17). The influence this show ended up having on the franchise at large continues to amaze me to this day.
Giant Mario vs Giant Bowser was in this show. And in dream team we got giant Luigi vs Giant Bowser.
This show is the ultimate guilty pleasure. A giant deep-fried cheeseball of flown-by-the-seat-of-its-pants cheap animation with cheaper writing, and yet hard-acted voice work by Captain Lou Albano and Danny Wells. It's one of those "So bad it turns inside out and becomes one of those Schrodinger's Simultaneously Ironic-Unironic "Good" 80s Animated TV shows.
This show may have not be a full accurate SMB game based but it does have its charms with the jokes, wackiness and seeing Koopa getting karma.
And they predicted a few Italian terms from what we see from the Mario Bros today.
It was a mix of both OG SMB and Western SMB2. And of course pop culture of the time.
However... the live action was the best part.
If you want a more game accurate show I'd recommend the mario 3 cartoon

The fact that there are two plumbers that look EXACTLY like Wario and Waluigi in this show is crazy. Especially when Wario was made three years after SMBSS aired. And Waluigi came out sometime near the late 90's, so he wasn't too far behind Wario. I think. I don't remember when Mario Tennis was made.
