In this Video i‘m restoring an old rusty Wrench from „Gedore“ - i found this Wrench in my Workshop, somewhere in the last corner. When i found it, it had a lot of rust and other stuff on it. Time to restore the wrench!
I started with a little brushing, followed by an electrolysis bath against the deep rust. 5 hours later the wrench looked ways better, so i started the rough metal works by using power tools. After that i sanded all the surfaces with different grits. Final step was the mirror polishing with a metal compound and a drill driven polishing pad.

When wet sanding put a drop of washing up liquid in your water, this will help to stop your paper from clogging up and also acts as a lubricant. Nice work. 😉🇬🇧

My favorite part of these videos is always the filing by hand
When brush cleaning the inside bore of something like this, I bolted a brass brush like that one to a Sawzall blade. Insert it in a Sawzall and I have a high speed brush.

Not to discount your amazing work, but do you know if Gedore ever made polished wrenches like this? Also what will you be using to protect it from rust and or getting all dinged up by other wrenches since I can never seem to keep mine looking very polished for long.
Adam, thanks for your comment! :-) i dont think that Gedore made (just) polished wrenches like this one, they made (or sold) chrome wrenches or other platings. After the Video i just added some oil, you can also use car waxes, wd40, etc.. but, like polished aluminum Roms for example, you dont really Need to protect it, if you did a good Job. Because of the polishing, the metal molecules are „closed“ now and won’t „let water in“. So it’s like a self defense against rust. If you’re using your polished tools, I would recommend plating, or (if you want to keep them just polished) refresh the surface with „nevrdull“ for example, as soon as oxidation or dullness starts. Adam, I Hope I could answer your questions! :-)

@TheJR1948 Ok "put your wrenches in a old drier with rocks" will do.
TheJR1948 Snapon tools are very smooth and shiny. Makes them slippery sometimes.
Adamant Adam I think “restoration” means different things to different people. Just like “preservation” gets used at times, then the tool is painted! Better then new, to me, goes beyond restoration but it’s still a useful tool in the end. Maybe not for in a museum as a display example of the tool when it was new, but nice for a tool box, or to hang on the wall.

Baking soda has so many uses.
When I saw you clean it then put on rust protection treatment, I thought ok restoration. My mistake as you turned it into jewelry only have to drill hole in the end for the loop . Looks you know 👍🏼

I find it interesting that Gedore made a single-function 30mm pass-through 12 point socket wrench. (maybe part of a set?)
It must have been used to constantly adjust some nut or collar on a shaft that you slid the wrench over. Today it would just be a box end wrench, which would not make a good a grip.
Tom, i thought the Same way, but couldnt find anything on the Internet. I found it in the deepest undergrounds of my shop. i own this shop for about 10 years, before this time the shop was untouched for about 20 years. So the wrench has to be at least 30 years old. Maybe a special tool? I think about asking gedore, if i get an answer, i will write it down here 🙂👍
If I had to make a guess I would say it was a wrench included with a piece of machinery. Perhaps a lathe or mill..
