Agreed; great delivery. The thing that made it funny for me was that it was in reference to football. We always hear how violent football is, yet Reacher got kicked off the team for being *too* violent in a sport that is violent.
This scene really requires you to suspend disbelief because literally no one would act/speak like that to someone who looks like jack reacher

It's so perfect that in the rich arsenal of Reacher's lethal hand-to-hand combat skills, he opts to open this fight with the classic "bitchslap" maneuver.

It was probably the lightest hit thrown by Reacher the entire season, and was also likely the hardest KJ had ever been hit.
A slap is actually much easier to justify legally as an offensive move than a punch since most people don't understand a powerful slap can be devastating. Bas Rutten was masterful at delivering a good slap!

I love how Reacher slaps him. One of the highest forms of disrespect. A part of me wishes that the bloody nose came from the slap and not the chair.

I've been a security guard for 13 years and it always surprises me how people who are physically outmatched will talk to someone when they've got money backing them up. I'm 350 pounds. A big boy. I look and act like a bouncer. You'd be surprised how people talk to me when they've spent enough money. They act like they own you. Till they get hurt. Then they become crybabies.
I really don't mean this offensively, and maybe it's because i'm a pretty big guy at 6'1 240, but you must be pretty fat to be 350 so people will think you may not be as tough as you look.
The thing about someone like Reacher is that he has nothing to lose. You can't intimidate or bully someone with nothing to lose. They aren't impressed by money or power, because they don't care about the consequences of liberally applying violence.
I've known someone like that before. Someone who lost their whole family to a drunk driver. The drunk driver had enough money to hire an expensive lawyer and fight the whole thing in court for years, eventually getting off with some heavy fines and a suspended license, but no jail time beyond what he had already spent before his arraignment. The victim, who was a co-worker of mine, ran the drunk driver over while the guy was mowing his lawn, breaking half the bones in his body, then torched the new truck he had bought to replace the one that had killed the victim's family.
Obviously, I never saw that co-worker again, but he told us all he was going to do it. While the original fight was going on, years prior to the final sentencing, he said "I just feel like running him over in his own yard."
WOW. Many people talk that way. Few people ever follow through with what they say.
The guy with a family to protect may just as well be as dangerous as the guy with nothing to lose.

I love that the intense skinny skinhead leans fully into a kick 3:09 and Ritchson just catches it one handed without budging an inch. Ritchson is a unit. Great casting for Reacher.

The best part about Reacher in the books and in both Cruise/Ritchinson adaptations is that he knows his limits and is VERY straightforward about how much stronger he is. And it is not even being cocky or overconfidence, he knows how to fight and will break every bone in your body
Nah, he's a practical guy. That's way too much work. However, half the bones in your body are in your hands and feet. So he won't take the time to break *all* your bones, but he will break half of them quite easily.

As soon as he realizes provoking Reacher would actually land him in a very bad position, he immediately does exactly what Reacher expected, tries to tell him to leave while sitting behind what he thinks is a protective layer of his daddy's money and lawyers.
Being too violent in American Football is interesting because the sport is practically quite violent. Such an impressive delivery line, just illustrates how ruthless Reacher is.

As hilarious it may be, he actually did do it. Generally speaking people of smaller physical stature wouldn't attempt to go against someone the size of Reacher.

I really love the scene before this, when reacher goes to roscoe sees the paint and drives off, i especially love how roscoe immediately knew it was about to go down and was scared for the boys that had done the painting.
Love it. He pulls up sees the mess and instantly gets back in his car and drives off 😊

I enjoyed this show a lot more than I expected, TBH. Unashamed action flick with a decent lead.

I know Cruise tried to be Reacher and he played it about as well as the actor could but Alan Ritchson was born for the role.

This show is great i really enjoyed it. Alan fits this role perfectly. His genes are insane though like seriously the mans sculpted like a greek god. I heard hes put in the work and gotten even bigger for next season too. Thats commitment. Well done and best of luck in everything Alan

Fighting wise, this scene is actually pretty realistic for a show. Definitely in the realm of reality, esp via someone large, athletic, and trained in functional martial arts/combatives. Even an average sized person with proper athleticism and skill could prob pull this off (esp the throwing the table napkin over his head to set up strikes / elbows!)
He's also smart and very willing to use improvised weapons. "Get your retribution in first," he says in the books.
He's supposed to be ex military, using Krav Maga, like Bernthal's Punisher. Same simple, effective, brutal fighting style.
I thought that the character of Jack Reacher belonged to Tom Cruise. Alan Ritchson takes the character in a whole new direction. And I LIKE it!
Havent seen the show but its hilarous to me how the dad just emerges from the bathroom as soon as police show up.
And spits out a quote that has literally never been said. Digging for water under an outhouse? What in the world hahaha
Tom Cruise is an amazing actor. The Reacher here is amazing and big enough be believable as the novel Reacher. Great show.

Just in case you were wondering --it’s really emasculating when a man slaps another man. He did that totally on purpose. He was a sending a message with that hand.
That's not it at all. A street combatant never uses his doubled up fist to strike. If you break your hands doing that you're in really bad trouble. Also notice that when Reacher squares off opposite the knife his hands are in a fist not exposing his extended fingers to injury.

I like the scene where KJ is introducing his Tide End buddy to Reacher. Most shows would cut the camera to show the guy and have a little intimidation moment, but this one doesn’t even acknowledge him, just like Reacher himself doesn’t acknowledge him as a threat.

Reachers fight IQ is insane. For such a big guy he knows his way as well. He can use is size but his brain is the best. Of course he was gonna slap the lead guy. 2 reasons. Weakest but also gets the other two to react on nature. Dawson was bound to leap over the table, so he blinds dawson and kicks the table, immobilizing him, who is the most trained and sporadic out of the group, getting him off his mojo, which makes the TE guy go in for a wild haymaker, reacher takes him out first, because even tho he might not know fighting, he is strong and could maybe rival reacher in the clinch, so reacher takes quick work with him. With Dawson, he’s too sporadic, so reacher just used his own self against him, and finished it quick by trying to immobilize him anyway he could. And Kliner well, that would’ve been cool to see in that diner.
A brawl is one thing, but bringing a knife into the game another..........someone like Reacher knows the difference, fun is over then.
Guess the young guy had the luckiest day of his life that the struggle was interrupted at that point.
Why would anyone willingly get into a fight with that guy?

Tom Cruise may have done a pretty good job in his Reacher movies, but Alan Ritchson is the Jack Reacher I always wanted to see. In the novels, Reacher's imposing physique is an intrinsic part of his character and let's face it, Cruise isn't exactly in the same league physically.

Still, I have re-watched that outside-the-bar fight scene with Tom from the film, and it's one of the best ive ever seen.
People can shit on Tom's version of Jack all they want. But his movies were decent. Although the second one fell flat compared to the first. Tom definitely had the acting down..... it's just his size ain't it. Alan's version hits both acting and size right on the money for the most part.
