Somebody reminded me about this song a few months ago and I added it to a VINTAGE VIDEO playlist. Really forgot about Slaughter. They were overshadowed by some other hair bands from the same era, but this and Up All Night are classics of the golden age of MTV. Allotta fun enjoying it with you, Thank you!
The singer was asked about the origins of the Slaughter song “Fly To The Angels” to which he stated: “That song was written about a girlfriend who I went to high school with. I remember I came back from touring and couldn’t get a hold of her. So I asked a friend and he told me he hadn’t seen her. The next thing I know, he calls me back with the news that she had passed away and the funeral was the next day. It was one of those surreal moments. I went to her funeral and it inspired me to write a song about letting go.
I had the infinite luck to see Slaughter open for Poison ages ago, but I came out of it with one hell of a new appreciation for Mark. He did this number, almost exactly like this. The concert where I earned my badge of honor; the scar on my thumb from holding that bic lighter up high. 😊
Mark Slaughter is the unsung hero of glam metal! He was a anchor s9ng writer and studio guitarist of the hair metal era. If you are a fan of the genre then you have heard 100s of his song credits. This s9ng he wouldn't sell because ot was personal for him. and YES, a slaughter concert was exactly like church. He would drag your emotions through the deepest depths and by the end he would restore your faith in humanity. He was brilliant personified. Should be in the Rock &Roll Hall of Fame but his albums weren't diamond just the songs he sold to others.
Baby, if you've never heard the song before, PLEASE do the studio cut that made it popular FIRST before trying a live version that will no doubt lessen the first time experience!
She always watches live versions... well 99% of the time I personally agree, I think the first impression should be based on the song originally, not the performer live Then if you wanna watch a live version at a later date that's fine too But she does a great job regardless and that's why we're here :)
My last name is Slaughter, with no relation to Mark Slaughter, the lead singer. We used to get calls at my house from girls asking if my brother was the Mark Slaughter of this band because my brothers first name is also Mark! Used to crack me up!
Check out up all night, Real Love, Searching, Mad about You, Unknown Destination, and so many more, Slaughter is awesome, Mark Slaughter, the lead singer is a beast!!!
I lost my wife suddenly, August 9th, to a catastrophic stroke. She was just 58 and our first date was on her 16th birthday. It changes even the music that you listen to. Songs that I loved before, no longer apply, and I don’t want to even hear anymore. This is a song that I like. The acoustic version is a bit softer, but I wish that Mark would record a version without the loud screaming elements. The melody and lyrics are so very beautiful but I could do without the screaming right now.
Mark Slaughter live dropped some quality from the studio (& video;), but he also really raised the bar several times, maybe even rivaling Cinderella's Tom Keifer and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. Hmm?
@@jamestate5059 they still had some kind of relationship for him to try to get ahold of her while on tour, only to find out from a friend that she had passed and her funeral was the next day and drop everything to be there for the funeral….I typically don’t stay in contact with my ex’s unless there’s still something there
His vocals are GONE now, unfortunately. Can't even get close to any of this now. But, still tours. That drummer has made quite the positive career outside of Slaughter. Google Blas Elias....
The live version doesn't hold a candle to the studio version . This loses a lot of the feeling to the song IMO and honestly Slaughter was one of the worst live bands I'd seen nut the worst was Faster Pussycat

Beautiful, touching song. What a voice!
Spend my life/ up all night other good songs by them
His Gf died ,he wrote this song for her
🤷♂️ the live performances really take away the production sound. The album version is a lot better
Up all night is a hugely popular rocking tune from them you should check out
Got to see these guys with Winger and KISS. It was an amazing concert! They were the opening band.

Ok I’ll check it out !
I don’t totally disagree, but damn this is a STUPIDLY GOOD performance. 😮
Agree Tool is the only band that's better live. haha

I saw them this summer in Houston and they still are as good as they was back in the day.
First rock band I ever saw live. Opened for Kiss. More 80s ballads please
I seen them live in concert in 1990. This song is beautiful
Must be nice!!!
Thank you for your kind words!
❤

Nice, I keep the song way back in my mind as one of my favorite songs. I don’t know why I just do.❤😂
The singer has had multiple surgeries for removing nodes and damaging his vocal chords.
Can't believe I used to perform this song in my youg rocker days. Now I cough after 2 consecutive sentences. haha
Old age is not for the weak

Should listen to Mark Slaughter (vocalist) w/ the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. Try "That Time of Year" or "Love Kills".

Mark Slaughter ballad voice always gave me Olivia Newton-John vibes.
Definitely need to watch the video
one off my favorite bands mark is an amazing singer
Live versions let you know what they’re really capable of.
Watch the 1991 music video if you want to see the heros of this band guirartist Tim Kelly and drummer Blias Elias!🎉
Yes she passed away, Mark Slaughters gf died and he wrote this for her
It was a girlfriend from high school
@@jamestate5059 yes, gotta be hard to go through that at such a young age
@@tiacalhoun3841 but it wasn't a current relationship.

In their first album cover credits - they made sure to endorse Trojan condoms - LOL
💯👍🔥
It was a great trinbute somg for his lost friend.
Yes his friend really died
When ever I break up with a woman, I refer to angels and heaven 😅. Of course she passed.

Watch the original video please
New subscriber! Love your channel! This version is not a good one... you should do the original video. It is sooo much better vocally! God bless!
LIVE is ALWAYS better because you don't hear all of the polishing of the vocals.

The sound sucks, you should play studio video
This is possibly the worst version of this song.
