Origin of the song in Mark Slaughter's own words. “That song was written about a girlfriend who I went to high school with. I remember I came back from touring and couldn’t get a hold of her. So I asked a friend and he told me he hadn’t seen her. The next thing I know, he calls me back with the news that she had passed away and the funeral was the next day. It was one of those surreal moments. I went to her funeral and it inspired me to write a song about letting go. There’s a real sense of composure in going through those life events that I’m always very conscious of in my music. Seeing what it does for other people is why I continue to write.”
Always could relate to this song. Played it at my wife's funeral 3 years ago. Wasn't a dry eye in the house. The song fit our lives. Was the best 35 years I could ask for. Our favorite song.
at the end of the song he whispers "divine order of his" mark slaughter always likes to put a little hidden somethin in his songs.. super love this song. so beautiful
Imagine being in your 20's in the 1980's. Power ballads were everywhere on the radio. Luckily, I was born in '62. Truly, the 80's were the best time for music. I just lucked out.
I had the pleasure to know lead singer Mark Slaughter prior to the group, we sang in high school choir together in Las Vegas. He is an amazing person and WOW !!! what a voice, to sit next to him to hear his twice a day in class, he was our only natural tenor, something some fans don't know is he sang in a barbershop quartet with myself and 2 other members of the schools men's choir and competed in All State Choir in 1981, I always loved his ballads.
This song has given me so much peace.....my son died last year. Its such a beautifully peaceful song!! It makes something so incredibly heartbreaking feel not so sad!!! 💔💔🎶🎼🎵🥁🎙🎸🎤🤘
Mark Slaughter is a natural mimic. In addition to his athletic vocal singing, he also does amazing impressions, and currently works for the Cartoon Network providing voices for many characters.
Another one of those 80s bands that had a few great songs then faded out. Glad someone is showing then some love. Try some GREAT WHITE, BULLET BOYS, WHITE LION, WINGER & DANGEROUS TOYS.
Those hair medal bands didn't fade out, they were FORCED out. Same thing happened a decade earlier to the Bee Gees, one of the most talented groups of all time.
And to think Mark used to give guitar lessons before someone heard him sing and ended up bein the singer for The Vinnie Vincent Invasion. So underrated. His power, emotion, control. This song was written for a girlfriend he found out passed away while he was on the road. He asked a friend about her and he said he hasn't seen her for awhile then called Mark back with the news of her passing and the funeral was the next day.
Great song!! I have met these guys a couple of times. A few years back the guitarist Tim Kelly died in a horrible wreck😢 all of their fans were mourning. I miss Tim!!
This was played at my sisters funeral in 93' she was 29 and died of cancer and I was 21 and I refused to listen to it but the morning I left the hospital when I Momma passed in 2018 I turned on the radio and I let it wash over me and listen. In that moment, I knew my sister and Momma were together and it brought a silent peace in that moment. This song and a Memphis band named Tora Tora has a song callex "Phantom Rider" both songs are healing to me now...please search that out and give it a listen. I grew up with those boys here in Memphis. ~much love and blessings to both of you and yours. This made me smile and tears flow and I'm thankful for both.❤❤❤
One of my most beautiful, caring, loving friends took her life right before Thanksgiving. It struck all of our #90's alumni so hard,we loved her so much. KelliLynn
You better believe it's an awesome song. I listen to this song in Desert shield Desert Storm and it took me home. And made me remember those who passed.
I always loved his voice and Slaughter in general. Another great one I've never seen a reaction video for is Giant - See You In My Dreams. Another beautiful song and amazing voice. Gotta love the power ballads! ❤
Thanks for doing this one. This song has always been one I come back to. It put Slaughter on the map. The band blew up big in the late 80’s and early 90’s, plateaued for awhile and then plummeted after the death (Car accident) of their lead guitarist. Mark Slaughter has one of the great voices ever, and, even though I love it, I often forget just how good he is. If you want another great song of his to review, check out Days Gone By. The song theme is very similar lyrically as well as musically.
Beautiful song reminds me of all those who've gone before me. My grandparents my parents my brother all of my aunts and uncles all of my siblings and most of my cousins. My dad used to say he was last of the Mohicans he loved that movie and was so sad at it also. My granddad used to say the hardest thing about getting old is watching everyone you know pass away. I am now last of the Mohicans I get it granddad! They are on that plane flying high back to the Angels.
I absolutely love people that refuse to fit into Black and White stereotypes for music and art. The world needs more people like you two! ❤ We are all one!
The song always gets me in my emotions. When I do my acoustic shows, I always play this and dedicate it to my friend Kenzi who passed away in January. I love her and miss her so much.
Just like great music 🎶🎵 is so real,i love how listening to it with Shawn and Mel makes me feel happy and with you ,cause everyone else around me here likes sleeping, and not me,I'm having fun with ya all'
This song has had so much meaning to me for 3 decades and it still touches me to this day. You guys should also check out Up All Night by Slaughter as well.
One of my all time favorite songs!!!! Got to meet them years ago, along with Quiet Riot. Mark, the lead singer, can not only belt these notes, but is also an amazingly kind man.
The way you guys react to his voice is really something. I feel like you both really love the sound for what it is, and take into account the talent that goes into it all. Great job.
Listen i don’t know what drama people are causing you but I absolutely love your pure energy and positivity..Remember 2 things…1. The King/Queen never respond to the minions. 2. Don’t let ANYONE dull your shine! God bless! NamaStacey
❤️❤️.... many many rock stars have amazing voices not only do they scream at the rock songs but there's so many amazing ballads like this one out there...... i'm sure you will get many more suggestions if you continue reacting to rock videos..... I love ALL But the videos you react to especially some of the older stuff from the 70s and 80s
It's a bittersweet song of losing a loved one. When a friend in the Southern California Metal Family Tribute Scene in 2016 went missing, then we all found out she had passed away. One of the guys made a memorial video of her at the tribute gigs. That person asked me what would be a good song for the video. This song immediately popped in my head. He said, It's Perfect!
I was a hard headed 17 year old boy when this song came out and thought that it was a girly anthem song..now in my 40’s with life experience behind me…it’s a heart felt feelin’ it song!! Love it
Awesome reaction...Mark Slaughter is great vocalist. Great song/lyrics. I had big crush on the drummer back then. A lil fun fact about this video. Few friends and i were some of those screaming fans in the beginning footage. That was at a instore Slaughter did at Tower Records in Anaheim, Ca. We were right in front of the line so when the band drove up in the limo and got out they walked right passed us to get into the record store. I remember them filming but at the time didnt know what it was going to be for. So it was really cool when the video came out and we saw they used it for this video. The girl in the black shirt with white lettering on it, with the group of girls shouting "UP ALL NIGHT SLEEP ALL DAY" Is friend from my high school. She was also there. Those are lyrics to one of their other hit songs "Up all night" lol also if you know of the band WEEZER the singer Rivers at that time was working at that Tower records he was working that night. Knew him back then from the band he was in at that time. This was before Weezer obviously. But anyways it was fun watching this it took me back to my teen years and memories of thar night. That particular instore was fun bc the band did it in the evening and many fans came in pajamas..it was supposed to be like pajama party.

There truly is nothing like the 80s hair bands!!!!! Love seeing people going WAY back!! Thanks for sharing

Luckily, I was born in '62. Truly, the 80's were the best time for music.
I just lucked out.
One of my friends plays for Slaughter. Not only are they talented but they’re also great human beings; excellent choice!!
🎶❤️👍
One of the best bands of that time ...amazing band that I still listen to.
Wasn't this also a tribute to " Amelia Airheardt "?
Please ask your friend to tell Mark he's welcome to come and live on my farm in Maine with me, I'll knit him wool socks and roast him a chicken. ❣️😂
Mark is the best of humans! I have known him all my life.
The song the fans were singing at the beginning is Slaughter's biggest song, Up All Night
My sister passed six years ago and this was one of the songs played at her memorial
Mark Slaughter very underrated singer!! Great 80’s !!! Awesome reaction!!! Rock on!
I had the pleasure to know lead singer Mark Slaughter prior to the group, we sang in high school choir together in Las Vegas. One of the most beautiful songs about grief I know of. Hardest part is knowing when it's time to let go.
Always remembering, but moving on. 🙏♥️
Thanks for playing Mark slaughter HIS voice so underrated
It’s trash now
I love watching reactions to this song. When his voice changes at the pre-chorus the looks on your faces was awesome. Nobody expects that change...
The world needs a dose of the eighties when I was a young folk to calm everyone down!
Music is the vehicle we all can get a ride on!
Great reaction!
I agree!
Great choice! Love his voice. You might like Kix singing Don’t close your eyes. Another amazing voice. 🤘🏻🤘🏻💙
Baltimore’s one and only Kix. God remember them and Hammerjacks.
Just heard that song on the hair nation station other day and i turned it up n blasted it. Had not heard it in long while.
I saw kix in the early 80s. I had their autographs on the album. Wow love that song
This song has given me so much peace.....my son died last year. Its such a beautifully peaceful song!! It makes something so incredibly heartbreaking feel not so sad!!! 💔💔🎶🎼🎵🥁🎙🎸🎤🤘
Thank You so much for reacting to this video.
I sang this son to my mom just before she left to die of Cancer in Michigan.
High school grad 1982. We cruising with this music every weekend. Awesome !!
Mark Slaughter is a natural mimic. In addition to his athletic vocal singing, he also does amazing impressions, and currently works for the Cartoon Network providing voices for many characters.
Mark Slaughter still sounds great. Just saw them last night in concert!!
Another one of those 80s bands that had a few great songs then faded out. Glad someone is showing then some love. Try some GREAT WHITE, BULLET BOYS, WHITE LION, WINGER & DANGEROUS TOYS.

I had this song played at my daughter’s funeral…….. the part “then I turn to look and find that you’re not there” makes my cry every time!
So sorry for your loss
That just sucks a lot. 😢 stay strong!
Thanks, guys!
So sorry for your loss sugar. Hang in there. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. :-(

Slaughter - up all night
Beautiful song by a beautiful voice man 💗🕊️. One of the best voices out there imo 😁
Up all night is another great song. It’s a powerful rock anthem
I played this song at my fiance funeral 15 years ago it still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it
blas's drum production on this is stellar... even by today's standards
Love analog recording, way better than digital. You can feel the rhythm section in 80s rock recordings. Rock on!!!
When he says 'the pain' you can feel that gut wrenching grief that this guy is feeling. You two really felt the song, great reaction
I dedicate this song to my daughter Jennifer on the day she became an Angel 👼🙏🏼🥺
Sorry for your loss....prayers for you 🙏💗🕊️
@@bethshadid2087 thank u 💜🙏
"I'LL never let you go" by Steelheart is amazing also....I'll drop the link....

That is a great song.
Great song!! I have met these guys a couple of times. A few years back the guitarist Tim Kelly died in a horrible wreck😢 all of their fans were mourning. I miss Tim!!

You’re right. His voice was perfect!
I love your personality and love for one another
Mark is SO good looking! Such a great voice!!
This might be the best power ballad of all time. I’m not a glam punk fan, really, but for me it’s this or Don’t Know What You Got (til it’s gone)
Awesome reaction! Very powerful song. Go O's!!!
I get serious knots in my stomach every time I here this song and pretty much anytime Mark sings...SUCH passion!!!
