I remember Martin..( Soul Sam).Getting back from Soul Galore..having just got a copy from Kenny Anderson...blew my mind then . 44 years back.. Still does..
Such a wonderful song, I never knew about it until after your uncle died, and I live just a few miles away from where he lived in central New Jersey. RIP.
Heard this Northern Soul gem decades ago in a soul club , finally I get this on vinyl as a gift for my birthday....my loving sugar dumpling, still love you ❤
I've heard and danced to most of the sounds and this is head and shoulders above the rest, closely followed by Moses Smith with the Girl Across the Street
Well get her! That's great. I had no idea about Northern Soul but thanks to a UK Magazine called Mojo I bought a Issue with the best of Northern Soul. It blew me away. I wish someone would do a Documentary about it or even a Movie.
Amazing tune, up there with the best. First heard it at the Wheel, then around 68/69 bought it along with Scratchy by Travis Wammack 10 shillings for the 2 on Walsall Market! Happy days 🥳
I don't for one minute believe that this was played at the Wheel. Not for one second. I know lots of people who went to the Wheel and they confirm that. Had that been the case, it wouldn't have been covered up as 'Moses Smith' by Russ Winstanley.
There isn't a more pure joyous sound than a brilliant Northern Soul record. I love Marc Almond so much, and part of that is because he introduced a curious music hungry 11 year old to this wonderful genre.....so many brilliant tunes
@@billybigrocks330 To a 20 year-old it was a complete rip-off. Almond was a "Div". Covering "Tainted Love" was about as original as covering a really well-known Beatles song and pretending it was "obscure". Ditto Kylie Minogue.
Another fantastic Northern Soul cut however I am unsure what the difference ( if any) is between say this record and a Tamla record ? They both are very similar in terms of being made for dancing and feature that classic Tamla percussion sound
Glad to say still in my box with all my other great tunes I bought in my Wigan days, was asked to sell them in 1984, being a striking miner, I was desperate for money, but after 2 searching, I didn't sell Couldn't part with them Keep the faith ✊🏻✊🏻

@@billybigrocks330 "Marc Almond". :-D :-D
@@drwhatson he was a big fan of the genre, and of course did Tainted Love and What, as well as others. At 11 year old that was a revelation
@@billybigrocks330 To a 20 year-old it was a complete rip-off. Almond was a "Div". Covering "Tainted Love" was about as original as covering a really well-known Beatles song and pretending it was "obscure". Ditto Kylie Minogue.

Time and tide waits for no man..can't believe I listened to this nearly 50 years ago.
Played at the Catacombs eight years earlier!
There are 3 film clips used in this video: 1. Summer of Sam. (John Leguizamo) - 2. To Sir With Love. (Sydney Poitier)- 3. Quadrophenia. (Sting).
The first film was The Wanderer's mate
