Just being 12, at the time to me I think it was the best year of America. African-Americans were being realized as they too, were Americans. At least I saw it that way. Love this great song by the inimitable Supremes.. For me you can keep Diana Ross. Jean Terrell, Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong were the real talent. The great Frank Wilson who wrote this rarely gets the credit he deserves.. Marvin Gaye's Chained is another of his, along with one of the most loved and recognised northern soul songs in history "Do I Love You". I wish someone could take this song and do a beautiful video as a way to pay tribute all those people who lost their lives or were injury because they were different. When will the hate stop. The Supremes really sang this song and the message still ring true today as when it did back when it was first release to us. Right on Supremes.

@@monicabella7894 You're wrong, in 2019 because of her dedication to the historical preservation of the group, today MARY WILSON = THE QUEEN OF THE SUPREMES...........Diane, WHO?
I can see Mary is happy singing this song. She was a very emotional woman, and had her ups and downs. Nobody can take away her and Flo's contribution to the Supremes. I am thankful to have lived in the time when these great groups and songs were popular
This piece is one of the most powerful among the zillions made by Motown. "Pray for peace" is in the lyrics, made in 70. I was 12, the country's soul was being torn apart by Vietnam.. This is a holy song.
+Walter Pewen It is. It was written as a prayer by Kenny Thomas of Pontiac, Michigan. He was just a teenager at the time! If you get the chance, check out the original long version of the song with Jean Terrell doing the intro. It is the sweetest sound to ever come out of Motown!
+DetroitLives313 Thanks. I will look for the long version. It's interesting I had that reaction, I had no idea, but something about hearing it again after all these years hit a button in me. It's truly beautiful beyond belief.
Oh my gosh, this is a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL video... Jean Terrell, Mary Wilson, and Linda Laurence... three incredible women, I could easily have fallen in love with each of them... what artists, voices, the way they move, the most amazing performers, the positive energy. I remember watching Soul Train when I was a kid... but now, as an adult, to see this again, gives me goosebumps and makes me want to cry like a baby! This song ("Stone Love" is the correct title) was written by Frank Wilson, who also wrote "Up the Ladder to the Roof" which Jean made famous. Two magnificent songs, which will be with us for eternity because of their immense beauty. Thank you for posting this terrific video and making my day!
+gibwise No she is not. Jean is the sister of Heavyweight Boxer Ernie Terrell . Tammi Terrell's real last name was Montgomery. She used "Terrell" as her stage name.
Her voice is the best music she held held it together and made it threw tough times and never gave up. God has his hands on her all the way Beautiful group and music ever Motown forever ❤️
Superb! When I hear this song I envision it being "global cast" all over the world at one time, where every single person hear's it and the world collectively connects on the basis of Jean's exquisite lead vocals and the beauty, sophistocation, and class act energy of these Supremes. And Ms. Mary Wilson! An original "Dreamgirl" indeed!
Jean Terrell, the ultimate professional who clearly enjoyed this performance with the other two, they all look so happy performing this classic Motown song. Lyrics very appropriate today, what with wars going on in Israel/Palestine and Ukraine. Why can't we all live in peace?
This really is a gem, I keep coming back and watching it again and again. I remember Soul Train, but being a gangly white kid I , or I should say my older sister mostly watched American Bandstand, and by the 70s I was much too busy being a teenager to sit still more than a few minutes at a time. Thats why these youtube vids are so much appreciated, now I can catch up on everything I missed out on! Ms Mary Wilson is so alive in this and Ms Terrel is just excellent!!! Good positive message too! Listen and groove!
Mary looks so happy and expressive here - like a weight had been lifted. And Jean, what a voice.

I wish someone could take this song and do a beautiful video as a way to pay tribute all those people who lost their lives or were injury because they were different. When will the hate stop. The Supremes really sang this song and the message still ring true today as when it did back when it was first release to us. Right on Supremes.
...that is a good idea. This song has good social conscience.
Being 59 now I well remember all this wonderful happy and joyous music which spoke to the masses about the hope for a better life for all and many of us at the time listened and tried hard to be better people..We could sure use that same sound from today's artists now..
Amen!
I'm an old Brit now but remember listening to my older cousin's Motown Chartbusters LPs ... loved my some Motown n Philly sound ever since... now with TH-cam I can get to see the old SoulTrain originals we never got to see in the day...
Same here on all points.
The Supremes still had it for sure even without Diana!
elamite66 Diana screwed over the Supremes and screwed herself in doing so.
Jean had such a sweet and rich voice, Diana was more about mannerisms and TONS of facial gestures, while Jean didn't need to do much physically 'cause her voice alone was THE BOMB!!!
Leslie James I guess you're basically right. Big money or even the hope thereof often brings out the worst in people I guess that's show business THE MUSIC IS THE THING!!!
I played this song every morning before going to school in the 60's on my luggage style record player. It is amazing to now know the lead was not Diana amazing what we were presented was not truth. From then to now 2019 my Motto has been " Trust but Verify " as with " 3 can keep a Secret if 2 are dead . Ben Franklin
@@monicabella7894 You're wrong, in 2019 because of her dedication to the historical preservation of the group, today MARY WILSON = THE QUEEN OF THE SUPREMES...........Diane, WHO?
This is one of the best songs of the Supremes, They shine, sound so amazing! They needed a singer to complete the group like Jeane Terrell
Rip Mary Wilson, your music will live on forever by all your fans. 🎶💝
“And to the man on whose shoulders the world must depend, I pray for peace and love, Amen”. So relevant today too.
I can see Mary is happy singing this song. She was a very emotional woman, and had her ups and downs. Nobody can take away her and Flo's contribution to the Supremes.
I am thankful to have lived in the time when these great groups and songs were popular
Mary was killing it!!!
This piece is one of the most powerful among the zillions made by Motown. "Pray for peace" is in the lyrics, made in 70. I was 12, the country's soul was being torn apart by Vietnam.. This is a holy song.
Yes sir. I used to have a bumper sticker that said "pray for peace". I need another
+Sherele Mason I would buy the bumper sticker but not from a company that sells Trump For President stickers- doesn't this seem a little weird to you?
+Walter Pewen It is. It was written as a prayer by Kenny Thomas of Pontiac, Michigan. He was just a teenager at the time! If you get the chance, check out the original long version of the song with Jean Terrell doing the intro. It is the sweetest sound to ever come out of Motown!
+DetroitLives313 Thanks. I will look for the long version. It's interesting I had that reaction, I had no idea, but something about hearing it again after all these years hit a button in me. It's truly beautiful beyond belief.
Walter Pewen
Because it and songs like Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin' On?" from the early 70s are so very relevant right now, today!
I just have to hear the opening bars to this and I'm back to 1971. Great music, great times.
RIP Ms Mary Wilson you will never be forgotten.
just a great song... i never get tired of it.
Derrick Zupf me either. I’m constantly replaying it while I’m reading these comments.
Sharky🦈. One of the best supremes songs can listen all day. And the Funk Bros. Music Motown's best band ever.👍🤗🎤💓🙉🎷🎸🎺🎹🥁📀
I remember hearing this as a very little girl...my late mother loved this song : )
Sorry about your mom , how are you ?
Jean Terrell was a GREAT singer!
"I pray for peace and love, amen."
My favorite Supremes song of all time, of any line-up!
She is beautiful, and that voice, the rhythm!!
Played this on repeat when I was in my teens. Nearly 64 now and still one of my favourites.
+davidhertzberg my thinks your gay
+john e wife
+davidhertzberg I sang this song in high school auditioning for a play, I love this song.
Dalane J Yes... its message is beautiful, timeless. Poetry set to music.
Mary has a great voice God Bless her may she rest in peace
Yes, a great lady. May Mary rest in peace.
Her voice is the best music she held held it together and made it threw tough times and never gave up. God has his hands on her all the way Beautiful group and music ever Motown forever ❤️
TOO right x
Nothing like the "oldies" to make me feel right at home.....the memories and music of my younger years...
Just like she did here. Brilliant and beautiful.
I saw them in 1981.
They were absolutely amazing. X💝
I LOVED HER AND THEIR MUSIC WHEN I WAS A KID!!! SHE IS A GREAT SINGER and the SUPREMES WERE AWESOME BACKUP SINGERS AWESOME TALENT!!!
Masterpiece, my fav Supreme track
RIP Mary Wilson
I enjoy listening to her sing.......Beautiful
Hello Joann, it’s been a great song with memories and I hope you are having a pleasant time listening to it again In 2022
Rip Mary . Safe in the arms of Jesus now knock out heaven with your Flo Ballard 🙏🙏❤️❤️
Brings back so many memories from the early 70s , up there with the best
Jean Terrell, the ultimate professional who clearly enjoyed this performance with the other two, they all look so happy performing this classic Motown song. Lyrics very appropriate today, what with wars going on in Israel/Palestine and Ukraine. Why can't we all live in peace?
Becaue Biden keeps giving them money to fight.
Nothing like a great song with a talented and confident lead and backing vocalists! Awesome!
I love to hear Jean Terrell singing Stoned Love . She was simply superb, brilliant & beautiful 😍 .
Just can't keep my eyes off Mary!!
I know, right?! She's glowing. Right from the start, Girl is ON IT.
Mary is so beautiful
Stoned love so beautiful song
