@@bellaharris9789 It's not something that's either good or bad. The internet is absolutely horrible AT THE SAME TIME that it is a great thing. Thinking it's only good is oblivious (parents giving 2yr olds ipads), and thinking it's only bad is the same(boomers banning kids from ipads entirely lol)

it's crazy how we all know what we're doing but we don't really have a choice but to keep doing it because for most of us, if we stop and cut it off,there will be no way to cope,no escape. it would be like closing the only window in a stuffy,dark and cluttered room and being forced to listen to the voices in your head and the voices of the ones who have no job but to criticize you and everything you do.

a story of mine:
i was once on a trip in namibia and since the mobile networks there aren't all that great anyway our family chose to leave the cellphones at home, and we were 3 weeks without them, or internet.
we just had a tablet with us (for backing up photos to a hard-drive and if sth else ever were to come up)
i mean we did end up being online for idk maybe a few hours in those 3 weeks, and we mainly used it to send photos to relatives, and the second time it was soo slow that we had to wait literally 20 minutes for the airline-website to load, just to check if our flights home were still going.
but yeah long story short:
we did all end up going back to our habits we had before, as soon as i got my phone back at home i was obviously again spending hours online and things were almost the same as before soon after (but i did get more aware of how much time i was spending)
fun fact:
my phone (it was a galaxy s3 neo at that time) hang itself up on the 1000+ (it was actually multiple thousands) whatsapp messages, new youtube video notifications (back then they weren't summarized and just all displayed no matter how many there were), and other notifications it had not been able to display since it was shut down.
funny times back then, also something you don't get to see everyday, the notifications of 3 weeks at once

A lot of her complaints about “the internet” are actually about capitalism.
The unhealthy social media that is being complained about is more often then not a contest of comparison specially set up to make you feel insecure on purpose to make you buy more things. Often you get targeted ads for things related to your insecurities after they are made clear by photoshopped models that don’t even recognize themselves.
And who’s doing the photoshopping and why? Usually brands trying to sell you a product are the ones originally photoshopping the hell out of models in magazines.
And the constant crisis mode that capitalism has most of us living in (paycheck to paycheck -so what happens when the cheap thing you bought and need breaks and you need it?). And things are constantly made cheaper on purpose, things we NEED. It’s no wonder our generation has tons of mental issues from what was sold to us never being real at all and then breaking, with no way to fix it.
No generation younger then millennials had to deal with that on such an in your face way. Every generation previous to ours was given social programs as assistance while the 50s propaganda continued to be pushed because it worked so well “work harder and you will be rewarded” all the while the goal is to extract as much from you as possible as profit.
So the generation that raised us had this propaganda pushed into their minds constantly while being given major help, so they push us to do the same but forget about the help they were given because it was designed that way. To give less and less until we are unknowing slaves to our capitalist overlords.
for me,i think this song is about gas lighting and if you dont know what is gas lighting,
Gaslighting is a form psychological abuse were a person or group makes someone question their sanity
.For example ,they might say "i don't know what are you talking about" or "you are just trying to confuse me."
