There are four officially released true instrumental songs, and several instrumental versions of their regular songs as well (for example, there is an instrumental version of the entire Unseen World album). The main instrumentals, in order of release are:
    (0. Go Nuts. No official release. The lost instrumental)
    1. Onset. This was a bonus track on a limited edition iirc.
    2. Don't Be Long. This was released on the "Different" single.
    3. Without Holding Back. This is in some editions of the Unseen World album.
    4. From Now On. This is the opening track on the Unleash EP.
I tend to view Onset and Without Holding Back as similar in having a bit more of a very high level jam session feel (that's not to diminish how good they are). I view Don't Be Long and From Now On as having more of a true song feel to them, in that you could put vocals in them, but the instrumentation already has the feel of vocals.
Personally I prefer Don't Be Long and From Now On over Onset and Without Holding Back, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

"Onset" was around the 4th or 5th track I heard from The Maids over two years ago and it's what moved Band-Maid from "Great Band" to "Special Band" .I thought, "Wait, they can do THIS, too?!!!" I've since said that same thing, like, twenty times. It's CRAZY. "Blooming", "Puzzle", "Manners", Black Hole. I could go on..and on...and on. Thanks much Sycho! 🕊

Sycho, you were impressed? And they did it with little lighting and lasers shooting all over the place. I was lucky enough to see and hear both FROM NOW ON and ONSET back to back on last year's tour TWICE. They only did that 4 times last year. And only once this year at TGT but not back to back. WITHOUT HOLDING BACK is the other instrumental you're thinking of and I'll put that one third. GIOVANNI is a song with vocals but there is a "white room" instrumental version out there that is not to be missed and I love love love that one also. BAND-MAID is just Awesome at pushing all the right buttons for me that it's kind of uncanny. But who's complaining? Peace. 2.46

@@SychoNation You're welcome. They have videos that show them practicing blindfolded. Just an FYI- their shows outside of Japan currently won't have that type of lighting. Listening to "Onset" was my moment of epiphany concerning Band-Maid. I had only watched a few other Band-Maid videos and was just happy to hear good, original music again, but then I saw "Onset" and realized that this was something different. This wasn't just rock or metal, it was also prog and fusion, it was music that pushed my mind places unimagined. This is great music from a great band and I would not believe they could top this performance. Until I heard "From Now On" - I cried the first time I heard it.

To me, the most impressive thing about this song is the intricate composition of it. Some instrumentals are just ad hoc, in the moment performances that are almost freestyle in nature. But Kanami is a musical genius and a true savant and created a masterpiece. I grew up with rock bands playing instrumentals on a regular basis and with strictly instrumental groups like Don Wilson and the Ventures (who have been very popular in Japan since they first went there in the very early 1960's, and there are still Ventures Tribute bands in Japan even today), The Rip Chords, The Tornados and from England, The Shadows. But Band Maid went above and beyond in bringing this composition to life. Every section of the song was done perfectly without a single hiccup. And everyone got their chance to shine individually. But Akane on drums was actual perfection, her fills were.........amazing. Everyone did their parts to perfection. I saw them twice last year on the US tour and they played Onset at both and From Now On at one of them. There is nothing like seeing it live to understand how incredible it is.

Here's your cheat sheet... Welcome! Band-Maid has no "best" of anything....they're ALL the best. Don't even try to hold a competition, you will fail.
    Band-Maid Is:
Akane Hirose (Ah-kah-nee or Ah-kah-nay) -Drums Nickname: “Ah-chan” and "Gorilla" because she eats bananas for her stamina and is a BEAST on drums.
MISA (Mee-sah) - Bass Guitar Nickname: "The Barefoot Assassin" MISA always performs barefoot as she states she like to feel the music through her feet, and "kills" everything she plays.
Kanami Tono (Kah-nah-mee) - Lead Guitar/Genius Songwriter Nickname: "Mincho" “Kanamincho”
Miku Kobato(Mee-koo) -Rhythm Guitar/Lyricist/Founder/Backing Vocals/Lead Vocals. Hardest working girls in music Nickname: "Little Pigeon" (Miku’s surname means “Little Pigeon”) ....po! Getting caughtup in Band-Maid means going down the “Pigeon Hole”…….. no rabbits here.
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-kee) -Lead Vocals Nickname: "The Princess" “Si-chan” Saiki is the Princess but Miku is Queen

WITHOUT HOLDING BACK is my favorite but this was the first Band Maid song that made me realize the absolute potential of this band. I always really liked them and thought they were excellent but for an old guy like me it took it to a new level. Wait until you really dig deep and find out the huge range they cover. They've kind of become their own genre. Try RINNE, ABOUT US and MANNERS to get an idea of the range. I'm sure any other Maidiac would give you an entirely different set and be correct in their assessment. The next one you hear can always be your favorite. The sound of happy surprise.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback!
I'm also looking forward to the next BAND-MAID reaction.
    Now for your question...
To be honest, it's impossible to decide the top three songs of BAND-MAID, not just instrumentals.
I think everyone would probably agree on this. ☺️
Because the instrumental is certainly wonderful, but if you continue this journey, you will also notice how wonderful the vocalist SAIKI is.
As a result, you have to decide the top three from over 120 great songs.
They will be releasing a greatest hits album with 30 songs this summer, but if I were to choose the songs, 60 songs would not be enough. 💦
Surprisingly, there are no instrumentals on this album.
But soon you will realize it.

You made a comment that most metal bands could NOT play this song but you never explained why. Could you elaborate on that? FYI they have a total of 5 instrumental songs.....!. 1. Without Holding Back. 2. Onset. 3. Don't Be Long. 4. From Now On. 5. Go Nuts (which is a poor quality audio recording from someones phone.)

    • @SychoNation
      @SychoNation  ปีที่แล้ว +2

its not so much could not as they would need ridiculous amounts of practice especially to match the guitar solo where she was not only playing notes on the top of the neck but tapping bottom frets to also get different notes. That skill is one of many MANY years of practice and is not easily mimicked. So I may have mispoke saying they couldn't do it but more so that it would take A LOT of practice and dedication to learning just that one area of the song

    • @stevehall5128
      @stevehall5128 ปีที่แล้ว

I think lots of metal bands could play it, but nobody but Band- Maid could write it. The simultaneous combo of fun, not self-indulgent, beautifully composed and arranged, flashy, catchy, and melodic is something few bands can nail all six aspects of. Maybe there's only 5 aspects because I dunno if you could have the others and somehow still be self- indulgent.

  • @MusicMike747

Tapping has been done to death. However, Kanami’s approach takes it from spandex & showboating to elegance inside a composition. She’s played piano since age 3 so that informs her note choices.
Listen closely as her left hand plays “rhythm guitar” as her right hand taps the “lyrics.”
“Blooming” is another example where she does this.
I agree with you that today’s rock and metal bands would be hard-pressed to even attempt a Band-Maid cover.
I have yet to see anyone on TH-cam cover a Band-Maid song. Maybe a single part, but no band can do what they do.
    Why?
    1) They are supremely balanced. Not one instrument overplays or underplays. No egos translates through the music. You won’t find five guys with this much talent and no egos
    2) Tone. The tone of guitar is in the hands. Compressed, distorted, whatever, it’s the hands that carry the music and their hands are unique
    3) The techniques. Misa’s bass lines are essentially four minutes of lead playing, switching seamlessly between pick and slap. Kanami’s a guitar goddess but she plays as a servant leader, completely restrained and unleashed at the same time.
Akane’s grace (watch her from behind, almost gliding over the cymbals) combined with ruthless power. Drummers will understand. Even the Professor Neil Peart knew he needed help when he began tackling jazz.
That’s just the start. These five women are exceptional individuals. However, they all combine and complement each other so that the end product is greater than the individual parts
My humble opinion, of course 🎸 ❤

A few elements to mention- Akane's drumming alway seems to have so much time when doing the most complicated elements, Misa's bass- pick, finger style and slapping/popping all in a couple of bars and Kanami's guitar- she has the fastest fingers when playing individual notes that I have ever seen. Their most interesting music is to be found on the album Unseen World- from Manners (Blues/rock) to hard rock/prog/metal in the rest of the songs- just crazy.

Thanks for the great reaction! This is a reaction channel, you should pause the video anytime you want. I would recommend that when you do, just back it up 5-10 seconds or to a point that you pick up between solos or whatever. Most of the time a disclaimer at the beginning of the video that you will be pausing appeases the haters, and tell them if they want to see the whole song in it's entirety I recommend they go to their band's channel. Link is in the description. You will catch crap if you pause in the middle of the lead guitarist's (Kanami, aka "Mincho") solo. I forget what they say, something like "Quiet, Mincho is speaking". Drummer Akane aka "Gorilla", eats bananas, autographs the peel and tosses it in the audience. Many audience members bring bananas. Bassist Misa aka "The Barefoot Assassin", her garb is a Ninja outfit, drinks whiskey while performing. Misa will switch back and forth between picking and slapping by tucking the pick under her fingers without missing a beat. You can see it at 4:02-4:05 in this video. Back up vocals and Rhythm guitarist Miku aka "Pigeon", says "Po" at the end of all her sentences, formed the band. Lead vocalist is Saiki aka "Ice Queen" for her expressionless face.
