That drum solo was anexcellent example of controlled chaos and beautiful to watch.

They were making faces at the drummer in order to get her to mess up. Imagine being so confident in your playing ability that you can try and trip each other up just for fun. I am a Maidiac.
Akane is the happiest drummer on Earth and so fucking amazing. I am a 68 year old jazz fusion prog rock drummer and Akane constantly amazes me
The thing about Kanami is she is a tiny ball of dynamite. A quiet, almost mousy, university graduate and classical pianist, but hand her a PRS and she becomes a monster. She is up there with Page, Clapton, Beck, Santana, SRV, Winter, and Hendrix.

Little fun fact: Throughout the whole show there were situations where the girls tried to distract Akane on the drums. And the part where they surrounded her, they made funny faces to achieve that. There is also a good example for that in the performance of "Domination". Well, I would say: Mission failed miserably! 😂 There are reasons why some call Akane the "Banana Powered Drum Machine". 😂 During the performance of "Play" Akane even turned the tables and distracted Saiki (Vocals) and made her laugh while singing. You should check out this performance too btw.

Gotta love Kanami dive bombing at the end of each verse. She is truly a guitar god. Akane is quite likely the best rock drummer on the scene today (the best jazz drummer is Senri Kawaguchi). MISA is up there with Jaco Pastorius and Tal Wilkenfeld.
Jilly Page of Led Zeppelin had seen the band in Japan and went backstage to get introduced to drummer Akane Hirose, who thought she was getting pranked. She wasn't, Jimmy Page told her she was the reincarnation of Zepp drummer John Bonham. Amazing. You have to react to Onset, their instrumental piece.
Band-Maid ... Talented Asian Women dressed Black and White. We've been awaiting their World Domination in the future.
You mentioned the anime Death Note. The Japanese band Maximum the Hormone did the theme song for that one, and their drummer (a lady by the name of Nao. Her brother playes the guitar in the band) helped inspire Band-Maid's Akane to play the drums.

Band-Maid are hands down my fav band at the moment. Since discovering them last year, not a day has gone by that they don't get played in the house. It's just sooo damn good.
For power metal, vote goes to Aldious (Mostly power metal, but they also mix in some punk and pop. Love this band. The drummer's step father was the drummer for Frank Zappa. And they have the happiest bass guitarist ever lol), Lovebites (dual guitar queens, and a drummer that is actually a disguised mini nuclear reactor. 4'9 or something, but daaamn does she go.), and also Unlucky Morpheus for melodic/neoclassical (they have a violinist in the band. Violin solos! Also, they are total game geeks. The song Unending Sorceres is literally about one of the member's love for Final Fantasy).
The singer in Unlucky Morpheus, Fuki, also sings in other bands/side projects, one which is called Doll$boxx (a collaboration with another all woman band called Gacharic Spin). Me thinks you will really get a kick out of their songs. Another recommended band is Ningen Isu, if you're into filthy, nasty, dirty riffs, in the best possible way (and a mean bass guitar). Very deep lyrics too. These guys have been around since the late 80s, but only last year discovered international fame, and finally did their first concert abroad. Dedication to their craft.

Japan has soooo many good bands right now, it's crazy. And many of them are all woman bands too. The amount and level of quality guitarists and drummers is mind numbing.

The name of this drummer is often mistakenly pronounced "EIKEIN", but AKANE is A-KA-NE instead of EIKEIN.
I think they are similar to the girls in the anime K-On (Girls having fun together making music)

If you want english lyrics, there is "The Dragon Cries" it´s totally in english and produced with Tony Visconti (David Bowie, The Stranglers).
An musicproducer with an really good worldwide reputation and he asked Band-Maid if they would do an song with him... And they did, but IMO it´s not one of their best songs, still good, but you hear it´s not one they wrote on their own. Still good and with english lyrics for you guys... Otherwise Choose me (live) has subtitles on their channel and you have to watch ONSET (live). Nice you are enjoying them so much, they deserve attention, because they are SO TALENTED and brighten the day, if you are not in a good mood it makes you smile anyway!

They actually have five instrumentals to date. Akane claims being half human and half gorilla. There is a picture of her holding up a sign in English Please send bananas to Japan. You drum like that for 24 songs you need your nutrition. Dec 2nd will be the release of Different which will be the theme song to a brand new anime released through Band-Maid's new label Pony Canyon part of TV Fuji. If this anime becomes very popular and the new single rocks which it will Band-Maid's profile in Japan will go up 1000%. MISA palms the pick when she slaps. Very few can pull this off. I stood in front of her for two hours in LA last September about 10 feet away. MISA is flawless. But then again so is her band. Sacramento loves Band-Maid. This is Miku who wrote the lyrics. Get out of My way, my way, my way and if not then Go away, go away, go away. Most songs with lyrics by small pigeon are about small pigeon. You write about what you know. She couldn't even play guitar when she formed the band.

The signs are from more than a couple of years ago and since Saiki was able to purchase a condo in Tokyo awhile back l am going to assume Akane can now afford purchasing bananas herself. Picks are there, yes, in case she loses one. They will toss them into the audience on purpose and of course... drop it I have seen guitarists that will use one per song. They were not always a "live" band. In the beginning they were a band that played live. Now, after touring, they have found that performance grove. They change the song to work live. This band should become an iconic band. They have the talent and their shows are fun to be a part of.
The picks are there because after most songs, they will throw the picks that they're holding out into the audience, so they need to have extra picks up there to grab. Most bands do it. And don't sleep on Misa (The bassist). She's one of the best bassists you will ever hear.
They all kick ass and make some great music. Love the reactions man!

Onset is the instrumental song they do live. Blooming, Moratorium, Rinne all great songs. Dont you tell me (live) is great dueling guitar, bass solos. The Dragon cries, a newer song, great guitar work. Love Kanami, great guitarist. She uses PRS guitars, and is influenced by Carlos Santana, Larry Carlton, EVH.
But yes, Jimmy Page saw them live in Tokyo, and went backstage for Akane the drummer.

It's rare for a pick to snap, though I have had it happen. But yes, for that....or more commonly, if you drop one (your hands get sweaty). The picks on a mic stand for rock guitarists go way back. But as mentioned earlier, it has also become customary for the guitarist to throw picks out to the audience. They'll have them customized with the band's name.
yeah i can attest to that, catched one pick from Miku at their show in Germany. Now its in my purse...forever :D

The concern may be less about a pick breaking and more about the pick getting dropped. Kanami makes rapid switches between picking and tapping, and Misa makes rapid switches between picking and slapping. They "palm" the picks like magicians when switching, and are very good at it, but there's always the possibility of a pick getting dropped.
@@markdzima or in Miho's (Bassist for Lovebites) case she doesn't actually use a pick, but at the end of the show she strums with one then throwes it into the crowd then repeats

If not mentioned yet, their song "Glory" was the ending for Yugioh VRains, unfortunately the anime was not super popular though. Also "Bubble" was used for theme song in a drama called Perfect Crime.
If you need more Japanese music check out Scandal for lighter rock/pop punk style compared to B-M, I would recommend "A.M.D.K.J." They also have a couple songs used for anime, probably most popular in Bleach. "Harukaze" or "Shojo S"

Answering some of your questions. All of their equipment (instruments) are not special made for them , these instruments are all regular size guitars , bass and drums. You can actually go online and purchase any of these and get exactly the same one. Although some artists do get a chance to get a special edition form them after being sponsored by that brand. But still it would be to scale so everyone can use it. Secondly pics on mic stands have been around since forever. They have 2 basic uses , first to get quick access if needed if one is dropped or if it broke and also to hand out to their fans during the concert as a momento . I can’t even pinpoint who did that first in music history. All bands put pics on mics. I also heard a mention on moshing . Typically mosh pits are found in Heavy Metal music and it’s different styles . Not in a Rock band as this. But then again who says never?

The fist band that put pick on the mic stands was probably KISS. The was because they used to throw them out to the crowd. BAND-MAID does some of that, though not as much. They're really there in case they drop one.

@@BuffChub They will be playing at the Budokan in Tokyo in 2021. Near 15,000 cap. where the biggest acts in music play. Even the Beatles played there . Band Maid has made it to the top tier to be invited to play at this famous place. They deserve it.

They toss picks to the fans after the show, but that's not why the picks are there. If picks get dropped, or if they break, they need to get another in hand swiftly in order to play on with minimal interruption. Throwing them out to fans after the show is, of course, very appreciated by the fans, but is not the primary reason for the placement of the extra picks.
