Fav song as a kid, was not expecting the guy that made "Passionflower" to put this out today. Thanks, brightened my day. Jon, you put soul into this. Doesn't deserve to be called a "cover." Love you big man, glad you enjoy the process of raising the bar too.
Blown away, again, by your music Mr. Jon. You put your ALL into it. I truly believe you set the bar on high a standard of achievement. There is always some way to add a dimension of depth to a piece. When I watched/listened to the 1st YT video of your "Passionflower" performance, it reset my thinking about what can be done on a guitar. That was years ago... and you have continued to grow from there. Thanks for sharing your gift.
Regardless of technical prowess musicians like you know how to always keep the melody king The simple beauty of the ebb and flow of it capures the human emotion and you dance around it perfectly with your playing jon Already listened to this several times ....❤....love it !
I thought this was the beginner guitar course... Jon, you're one of the most musical and ridiculously skilled musicians on the planet. I really hope you make your way to Colorado one day. I'd love to see you play in person.
Great as usual! Jon Gomm is one of the best acoustic guitarists alive and I am constantly shocked that he's not a household name among everyone who plays.
Another masterpiece, Thank you Jon! You have always been and continue to be an inspiration to musicians around the world. Don't ever stop... and don't ever put shoes on! lol
Really happy to see you still rocking in 2024 dude, Your passionflower video lives rent free in my head and still inspires me today to learn anything I can about guitar and music in general. Much love.
It is extremely rare that I prefer a cover to an original, and unheard of when I really enjoy something that originally I didn't care much for. What can I say? Wow! Simply sublime Jon. Both the missus and I love what you have done here. Been awhile since we've seen you. Hopefully catch you in 2025.
Watched Peter Kay and even he had people singing to this tune. I thought of the time I watched Jon gomm at the ferret in Preston. When he played this, we all sang it to our hearts content 👏👏👏
I remember once walking into a Cellars Open Mic many years ago with Jon Gomm! While Jon immediately recognised, and everyone immediately hoped he would play. the loud whispers were "But how the hell does he know Grod?!" Simple fact is we first shared a stage at the "Coastville(?) Festival" where I was the "Opening Act" at around 10am with few people about and he was the "Headliner Act" at 10pm! Jon arrived early, just as I was setting up and was introduced by my friend Tom Watton who had helped organise the event. I had no idea who Jon was, nor even heard him play so was just my normal jovial self and cracked a joke that if Jon was willing to stick around for my set, he'd hear for himself while Tom had decided that I be the opening act and why he was the headliner! He laughed and said "Sure I'll stick around and watch your set... and I'll get Tom to make sure you have a front row seat for my performance if you willing to stick around for it." I did warn him that actually I'm a Busker who very rarely plays indoors on a stage, so a whole new experience for me! But Tom had kindly offered me this opening slot to help give me some publicity and support. Jon's response was he loved buskers! Bringing music straight to the streets. He had deep respect for anyone brave enough to do that and knew it was far harder than it looked. That some of the best musicians he'd come across in his travels had been buskers! He wished me best of luck for my set and afterwards came over to tell me how much he'd enjoyed it, how I'd set the event off in the right spirit. & hoped to see me at his performance later. As he left Tom Watton turned to me and said "If I were you I'd take him up on that offer of a front row seat, I'll arrange it & I promise you the things he can do with a guitar will he'll blow your mind! I look forward to seeing your face when he plays!" Well... my mind was indeed blown! But also... why isn't this guy more famous? He's a genius! Well that happened when Stephen Fry simply tweeted "WOW!" with a link to a TH-cam video of Jon Gomm playing his own unique composition "Passion Flower" .. check it out.. & you too will go WOW! I next met Jon Gomm when I found he was doing a special" Guitar Workshop" lecture organised by Hull University at it's Scarborough Campus. (Sadly since closed down, as was Westwood) I turned up for it was again awe inspiring as he explained the techniques he used in playing and composing. Including it's flamenco attributes. Exploring the different sounds you can get from a guitar, including tapping the body for rhythmic effects, harmonics and even using the tuning pegs to slur notes. After the lecture he stayed around to chat to people and answer questions then as he was packing away I approached him and reminded him I'd met him at Coastaville festival. He recognised me immediately and said "As soon as you came in I knew I knew you but couldn't remember when! so thanks for solving that mystery! you're Scarborough's main busker aren't you!" With that I offered I buy him a drink at a nearby pub if he could spare the time? Give me a chance to ask him a few questions. Because he, like me, had never signed a record contract... we recorded and produced our own CD's and using the Internet to promote ourselves. So we eventually just went for a coffee and to my surprise chatted for over an hour. I then said to him that actually I was supposed to be going to the Cellars Open Mic nearby, would he fancy coming along? & he said, "Yeah why not, it'll be fun! & I'd like to hear you sing again." Hence how I turned up with Jon Gomm at Cellars that evening! I last met Jon Gomm sadly at the funeral of Jonny Walker at a packed Leeds Minster, on my Birthday, back in 2018. Jonny Walker was best known as being a busker, indeed set up the "Keep The Streets Alive" campaign group. Jonny had travelled to Bath to meet with me when I had my own campaign for Busker Rights, featured on the very early internet a few years previously. It was by sheer chance that Jon Gomm was seated just across from me in a packed Leeds Minster so I got the chance to quickly go over and say a quick "Hi" to Jon and was great to see him showing his support to Jonny. But also a mark of respect to the many fellow buskers attending. Today I was reminded of all this when this video suddenly popped up. Jonn Gomm playing "A Little Respect" .... & just had to share out of deep respect. Though only watch if you don't mind your mind being blown! It's not AI... it's a human performer of immaculate skills sharing their talent.
The wife and I chose to go and see Jon play instead of a honeymoon when we got married. He's was great!
were his concert tickets really that expensive?! (joking)
Perfect. Played by a deeply thoughtful and kind man.
Fav song as a kid, was not expecting the guy that made "Passionflower" to put this out today. Thanks, brightened my day. Jon, you put soul into this. Doesn't deserve to be called a "cover." Love you big man, glad you enjoy the process of raising the bar too.
The tastefully-used shimmer reverb brings such a serene feeling to it. Beautiful 🖤
I wonder if it's the Cloudburst... 👌
The joy on his face as he plays joyfully, wonderful
Jon, you are an absolute delight! It's always a pleasure to hear you play.
