      For serve the sweet spot is slightly higher.. Probably first serve, max use of the centrifugal force

      What do you think video is but fast frame by frame?

  •  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    One very interesting questing that is here answered is how much time the ball and the strings are in contact, I counted around 18 frames which translates to approx 3 ms. This time depends on many factors: string tension, kinetic energy (velocity of racket and ball), point of contact (distance from sweet point) but also racket acceleration which increases it.

    Class it’s amax how quickly the ball will return to it’s original shape

    • @bsrsharma
      @bsrsharma ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ball does not return to its original shape at once. It oscillates between two ellipsoidal shapes (with the major axis vertical and then horizontal) and then becomes a sphere as the elastic energy dissipates due to friction.

    • @mythbusterman8541
      @mythbusterman8541 ปีที่แล้ว

      At no point did I say it returned to its original shape, at once.
      I just said how quickly it will return eventually resume its original shape is cool .

    • @bsrsharma
      @bsrsharma ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mythbusterman8541 , you are right. I just wanted to emphasize, for those who may be curious, how collisions look like in slow motion. The oscillations between kinetic energy and elastic energy are something we don't get to see when we throw random stuff at each other. This video is a beautiful example to show how all collisions involve oscillations. For anyone who remembers the movie gravity, collisions in space are a major pain, because oscillations never stop due to absence of friction and things seem to bounce around forever. Even drops of soup in a spoon keep wiggling like Jello.

    When you convert the video to youtube-format are all frames saved? That is: Is the framerate still 6000fps? To me it seems like the time of the serve is 20 frames, which is only 3,3ms.If the ball weighs 57grams and we assume the force to be constant the racket exerts a force of 1,1kN...That IS a lot. :-)

      Actually, this video is 1fps, as you can clearly see. It was recorded 6000fps, and played back 1fps, so it is slowed down 6000x times. Thw whole concept of slow motion is that the recording fps and the playback fps is different (latter is smaller). If they were the same, you would see realtime motion.

    Are the strings creating the spin too or the brushing of the ball?

    • @anatolyantipin8718
      @anatolyantipin8718  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      An amount of spin (rpm) mostly defined through angle between
      a velocity vector of a racquet and a perpendicular to a string bed plane. The Slippery
      strings can help also.

      So I wonder why "follow-through" is so stressed with young tennis players, when only .003 seconds that the racket makes contact with the ball matter for the ball's direction. I guess a follow through motion is the most efficient way to generate the necessary power.

    • @srinitaaigaura
      @srinitaaigaura 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That extra inertia can be used to help reposition the body for the next step or shot. Another reason is to slow down the racket more slowly and reduce stress on the body.

    If it's 6000fps, why isn't the footage smooth?

    • @Nithralas
      @Nithralas 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      maladidanart 228 km/u divided by 360, then times 1000 gives you 63,33 m/s = 6333cm/s
      It's 6000 frames/s so 6333/6000= 1,5cm/frame
      Tennisball is roughly 7cm, so in 4 frames the tennisball has travelled its own diameter.
      Even the super slo mo speed of 6000 frames/sec were not enough to film this tennisball super slow in a fluid motion. They should have filmed with more fps.. Or the server should have hit less hard hehe

    • @zorilaz
      @zorilaz 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      maladidanart It's not. It's fake. All they did was to separate each frame and that gives you the impression of slow motion.

    • @kenbomant2072
      @kenbomant2072 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Nithralas Wrt title speed of 142mph =228kph: then: v / (f/s) =(cm/s) / (f/s) =6333/6000 =1.06cm/frame [ not 1.5cm/frame ]
      {I suppose this is @ the max velocity (as it accelerates from 0 during the clip)}
      Ave speed over 1st 0.402m: v=m/s =(5.ball.diameters*0.067m) / (48f / 6000f/s) =50.25m/s =181km/h?
      Thus ball is moving @ ave 0.8cm/frame: v / (f/s) =(cm/s) / (f/s) =(181000/3600*100 /6000) =0.8cm/f
