original, literal translation lyrics (not in this video): pastebin.com/LiY3j2Cv translyrics: pastebin.com/p6v4Ecm5 notes: - first video entirely made with premiere pro! for this i just focused on getting used to using the software vs vegas in terms of timing and adding a bit of dynamism to the lyrics. next thing i make will have more transitions - i didnt use the EP's cover image because youtube's algorithm thinks its a child, so it automatically and irrevocably disables comments. i like hearing from viewers and i love it when people share their feelings, so i decided to come up with a different image with the same-ish subject and color scheme as the EP cover image - i will make a community post and update this comment about my thoughts and my creative process with regards to this song, but there is one thing that stuck out to me- the second part of the song is just two lines repeating over and over again ("Peeling away, peeling away- if I'm going to touch your hand, now is the time"). i found there was a lot that was lost in translation in the way of the nuances and undertones of the repetition, and it was not very compelling to read nor sing in english. this is why i came up with an alternate poetic structure that had the same phonetic characteristics (kinda) as the original repetitions - the original lyrics are very abstract and vague. i received many comments about their nature from the translators, and this is normal for japanese shoegaze of the sort. i think i did an alright job at conveying what the song was trying to say, but i added a few details and images to build on what was already there. i sincerely hope you do not find i took it too far- when writing translyrics, there is a fine balance to strike between fidelity to the original song and coming up with lyrics that are worthy of the song's beauty. i only intended to elevate this song's beauty while sticking to its original meaning, but i hope you will forgive any divergence from the original - thank you again for watching! i look forward to making more tokenainamae lyrics
@@suessen sorry for the wait, youtube never shows me replies to my comments for some reason. the reel basically said "Someone made a translation of Calpis-Chan!" and i wanted to make sure they knew it wasnt a literal translation. i posted about it in my community tab so i'll just copy what i said there (i didnt put it in there but i explained the nature of translyrics and they said they were glad i did that because of what the post says about how the lyrics sound) "[...]onto another exciting piece of news- tokenainamae posted the calpis-chan translyrics on their instagram reel! it got a good bit of views, sure, but i didn't really care about that. i've never spoken to an artist whose music i've tried to amplify and do right by for an english-speaking audience. i reached out to them on instagram after someone commented they had posted me, and explained to them the nature of the work. they were incredibly kind and supportive, and apparently tokenainamae write their lyrics in good part for how they sound. this was very insightful into their work and it was an incredibly wholesome moment." i hope this satisfies your curiosity
This has got me completely sold on tokenainamae, that instrumental is absolute fire! I also really like how you transcribed "The body of the virtual console floats in the air". The part during the second verse where it became all caps caught me off guard but still a pleasant suprise too.
thank you so much joel! i had mixed feelings about the caps at the end, but... my creative process makes me get deeply emotionally immersed in the song. the structure i used in the second part and the repetitions of again peeling through made me feel like there was a nice build-up that warranted them im really glad you enjoyed the lyrics! more to come very soon hopefully
@@kiro8720 thank you so much!! i spoke to tokenainamae about the nature of my work with their songs and they seemed to agree too... i take translyricism really seriously and i try to push boundaries. i plan to write many more tokenainamae translyrics, so please stay tuned!!!
@@vraelfr of course vrael, thank you for enjoying my translyrics! you can also sing them by the way they're made to be singable like the original! i love this song too it's very dear to my heart
sure! the lyrics build on the original japanese lyrics and they are an attempt at showing the song for what it really is. for example, originally the second part of the song, from the first "Again peeling through, again peeling through, again peeling through" to "If our hands nevermore lie where they belong" is originally just two lyrics: "Peeling away, peeling away If we're gonna touch hands, now's the time" this is the literal translation. as you can see, it doesnt make for something that is compelling to read nor sing in english. in japanese, it sounds beautiful. but that depth is lost in translation this is an attempt at restoring that depth. what i think the person who wrote this song must have felt.
@@RadicalSharkRS kinda! but it's also quite different. tokenainamae and my dead girlfriend have played at shows together. i think of tokenainamae very differently than i do of my dead girlfriend, writing these gives me a lot of deeper insights into the artist's music here i go ranting again though. i'm happy to confirm i've finished the translyrics (and fauxlyrics) of watashi no aishita manatsu no shinigami + editing started. all i can say is it will be my best video hopefully
