Reminds me of a meme I saw where Lena was talking to Kara and being like "Hey, we're going to fall in love and get married now!" and Kara was like "Really?" and Lena was like "I bought the CW."
By season 6b I was genuinely confused. They were so clearly putting Lena in the spotlight for Kara like never before. It was like s6 writers said: "How can we show that Lena is Kara's perfect partner, without being explicitly romantic." And they did just that. Kara talked to Lena when she needed advice or comfort. She ended her nights with Lena while Alex ended hers with Kelly. Lena was shown to be Kara's moral compass at times. At her side when she wakes up. And saves her repeatedly. Kara even mentions how Lena saved her from losing a part of herself and that she always does. Like....what is that? Kara's spent her time focusing on Lena more than her sister and they're...not a couple? They've been willing to risk the lives of others...and change reality for each other. And they're just friends. Lol no they're clearly in love but the show already have their max lgbt characters so they said no on making it canon
The second half of the season almost had me convinced that the show would do the Korrasami thing of not saying out loud they were together but letting the audience connect the dots. Whatever the show decided to do, they were practically a couple anyway in my eyes. Their last conversation is basically them dodging the words "I love you."
I will never forget when the entire internet said "kara leaned in" for about a month straight.
it's heartbreaking how Supergirl dropped the ball on what could've been potentially the best couple on TV. Even for someone like myself who doesn't watch supergirl was rooting for supercorp. I hope other writers/producers/etc saw Melissa and Katies chemistry and they can work together on other projects in the future.

@@grAvYGraVyy oh man…it’s been so long! I couldn’t tell you what episode or even season it was, but there was a scene where Kara and Lena were talking and at one point, Kara leaned in a few inches. It gave the impression of like leaning in for a kiss. Obviously it never happened but it was the talk of the town (aka all social media) for weeks at that time.

Even if Supercorp was canon in the last episode, I am so tired of (usually main characters) characters being confirmed queer at the last second. To me that isn’t real representation. It’s almost 2022 and we deserve to have main characters that are thoughtfully written and their queerness explored in depth, not thrown in at the last moment.

@@tananario Yep! If Kara was to be confirmed queer, I would want the same amount of time and respect dedicated to her coming to terms with it. Not like say, Supernatural who confirmed a queer character at the last second and we didn’t see any development or exploration of his character in terms of queerness.

Chemistry and story dictate that. And us letting writers get away with their bare minimum rep by saying “ship what they give you in canon and move on” will only hurt us all in the end. It’s time we see ourselves in the MAIN character. In the MAIN relationship.

Well, when it comes to animated TV shows, this is already the case. I'm part of the Miraculous Ladybug fandom, and we all pretty much prefer the fanfiction over the actual show.
I have never been queerbaited so hard. There is no platonic explanation for this relationship especially in the last season.
To me they actually hurt the show by not making Supercorp proper canon. Supercorp should have been the core of the show, the cornerstone to build around. They still could have had the same angst with Kara hiding her identity from Lena and then the Fortress breakup. It could have been an amazing journey of discovery of themselves and each other. Learning to love and accept themselves and then each other that would have transcended relationships.
Was Lex brought in more to fill out storylines because they couldn't/wouldn't make Supercorp the heart of the show? The writers dancing around with silly storylines trying to make James and William love interests hurt the show. Imagine how much stronger the show could have been if they had brought in Supergirl's actual villains and the Superfriends with Supercorp at the cornerstone fighting them? All of them together using super powers, science, magic, and technology to keep the planet and the universe safe.
It's so sad that the writers/higher ups wouldn't allow the show to fully become itself because Melissa and Katie have so much chemistry between each other and broiught so much to their characters.
Been waiting for this for long time. We need to build a community to rant about this somewhere, if it already exists please direct me to it.

The Super and Luthor family being joined in romance (gay or otherwise), would have been HUGE! I don't think anything like that's even been canonically done in the comics. And it was one of the best storylines on the show. The fact the writers couldn't pull the trigger on that relationship is COWARDICE.
Networks and producers (or whoever) are really out here saying when we have one or two gay people on a show that’s enough and that we’re asking for too much. Meanwhile there’s also been shows like Torchwood and Sense8 where they’re like fuck it EVERYONE IS BI/QUEER. We love to see it.

I sabotaged the show after maggie left; it was one of the best decisions i ever made as a tv series addict. The arrow verse show that several people spent eons ignoring is the only one of the four which has stayed genuine, good and capable of renewing itself without pissing anyone off. Also its funny every time someone talks bout how having more than two gay peeps in the tv show they jump sayin that s enough because we gays tend to group up in gigantic groups so usually if there s someone het in our circle, its literally 1 or 2 hets over 20+ gays XD

It's pretty obvious that the costume crew were on the joke: they kept on giving Lena the same suits and colors as Lois. You can literally take a pic of Clark and Lois and they wear the same colors and clothes than Lena and Kara.
Even some dialogue lines were almost words for words a discussion Lois and Clark had: You, Clark, are my hero.
In Lois and Clark: Clark goes all around the world to bring Lois her favorite food.
In every show and movie, Clark keeps on saving Lois from falls and swiping in, holding her marital style.
It's just so blatant.
Plus, not using Katie absolutely off the charts chemistry with women and her using her sapphic energy spontaneously is just criminal.
I really don’t know how this fandom made it alive. You are so strong. One of my top favorite ship is “Shoot” Shaw and Root from POI, which had the opposite of the Supergirl writers and producers. They saw chemistry and just run with it, they kept true to the story, but they went with it. I’m scare for 2022 and Killing Eve.
Xena premiered 20 years before Supergirl (in 1995), at the risk of losing funding and having the show cancelled for being "too gay", and yet they handled the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle SO much better than how Supercorp was handled. It still holds up after 26 years. And Adam. Listen, you have GOT to watch Xena: Warrior Princess. It streams for free on the Roku website. It's gay. By season 5, it's no longer subtext, it's text. It's really, really good, and I hope you make reactions for it.
P.S. it crosses over with Hercules, and there is some context you might need from that. But Kevin Sorbo is a trash human and it's not worth watching the whole thing.
The whole 'Kara revealing herself to the world and endangering all her family' happened bc of 2 things:
1.Stories have a life, so if you go against the plot the story demands, the story will fail. But CW insisted, and went against what Supergirl demanded (supercorp).
2. As SC was literally the only fucking way to give Kara a love interest, without Lena, Kara feels inevitably suffocated ---- she wants a love life but is afraid bc she can't start a relationship with lying.
So CW sees this and thinks the thing that prevented Kara from having romance was her secret.
The solution? Remove the secret.
Does is solve the problem?
NO.
Revealing herself doesn't guarantee anything. Plus, many people will only want to date Kara bc of her heroic ways. It's stupid to think the world will see her as 'just Kara'. We don't even threat celebrities like that. Imagine an actual fucking super hero? The world will see Supergirl, the kryptonian warrior with a human life, not Kara, the dorky journalist who loves donuts and potstickers. And the whole show's plot was how Kara wanted to be seen as herself, flaws and all ----- and not for her powers.
So SG's ending was PURE BULLSH*T. Kara's fears were not dealt with, they were worsened. Her secret is gone, but so is the certainty of what people really think of her.
Talking about SuperCorp makes me want to tear my hair out! This could've been a whole documentary.

My thinking is this: the CW HAD to know that the only people watching from season 5 on were SuperCorp stans. The show wasn’t doing well otherwise, it wasn’t on the level as Arrow or Flash. So why not just make SuperCorp cannon? What did they have to loose at that point? They should have just “taken the risk” and should have just owned it and made it happen. It would have been iconic.
A novelist could make a couple at their will, however, in tv shows, just because of something scripted does not mean it will be accepted. Thus, the actors' choices of acting have a huge impact on the script. To be fair, neither the showrunners nor the actresses thought that Lena and Kara could ignite an affectionate relationship. Since day 1, she appeared on the show, the dynamics between her and Kara in the very first off-the-record interview, I knew it in my bones that they were meant-to-be. Besides, the show being annoyingly hell-bent on the idea of covering an assortment of sexualities makes matters worse. In hindsight, it is clear that the show intended to have a lesbian couple; and, if Lena and Kara had met sooner, had lit up the glow of love sooner, it would have been Kara who comes out to Alex, considering some similar stuff between the two couples.
That is not the most shameful thing yet. The showrunners never pushed Lena and Kara's relationship to be the main plot lest that the fans would go banana screaming that this is sapphic or whatsoever. As a result, they ended up doing nothing and circulating around riffing on non-essential characters, namely Willliam and Lex and Nyxly's relationship.
I mean, if they don't have the guts to follow the inquiry of the mass, then at least, they should have some self-esteem to write their shows the way they want it. Pure cowardice.
I loved and wanted Kara and Mon-El together mostly because I think Melissa & her hubby are adorable (not because I was a fan of Mon El) and even then I can totally agree that the there were many romantic undertones with Lena & Kara and numerous parallels, and that the supercorp fans are NOT reaching, I don't know if its just because Katie and Melissa are incredible actresses and have great chemistry but I'm pretty sure we all saw it and felt it, so I don't see how anyone could deny it at this point

I think that The CW only wanted one show with a "Super" name in it so they axed Supergirl to keep Superman's show. And they knew if they made Supercorp canon the backlash would be bad. And jokes on them, cause barely anyone watches Superman's show. The CW would have made SOOO much money on Supergirl if Supercorp was canon

The Similarities between Supercorp and Destiel truly make me feral. And Destiel is technically canon 😭 like the most Racist, Mysogonistic, and Homophobic show in history did it, and they can't even? Like yeah Destiel overtook the election, BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT SUPERCORP WOULD HAVE DONE IF THEY BECAME CANON??!! Literally baffling

Season 6 had Kara and Lena bonding so tight after Kara's return in episode 8, I had almost thought the writers were gonna pull a Korrasami: Lena and Kara as basically a couple, just not really saying it out loud.
There was an instance where Lena could literally time Kara's arrival home during a specific game night, there was the time they said the same words at the same time even though Kara was flying in from miles away ("train!"), there was the fact that Lena was NEVER seen at LexCorp or in her own home ever since Kara had returned (was she living with Kara the whole time perhaps?), the parallels even this season to Dansen before and after the return...
Even their final conversation with each other was basically about Kara and Lena appreciating each other for helping find each other's true selves, an emotional form of "coming out." At the wedding, their words were just short of "I love you," and I wish they had just SAID the three words because it's clearly what the characters were trying to say.
FINALLY, I've been waiting for this rant for ages!
Let’s not forget that Kara wouldn’t have even become a reporter if not for LENA.
The AUDACITY of the writers. Honestly, Supercorp surpassed even SwanQueen for the biggest Queerbait in history.
I don’t care what anyone says, Supercorp is canon to me. They had way too many romantic scenes. All their actions are romantic. All their dialog is romantic. The direction is romantic. They literally multiple times would sacrifice their lives for each other, saved each other multiple lines.
Yes or no question. Would you ever demanded that a fanfic writer change the story they wanted to tell, because you think two of the characters belong together? And before you say "Well this is different!" It's really not. What is a licensed show like this, if not an officially sanctioned fan work?
I think the culprit is Warner Brothers. They were released Scooby-Doo the movie back in 2002. Velma was originally written as a lesbian, and they told the writer to water it down over and over until eventually Velma had a BOYFRIEND.

If you've ever seen the cartoon "Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated," the writers didn't even give her a boyfriend THERE, even though Velma certainly tried. While it wasn't explicit, she ended up bonding pretty quickly with this girl Marcie Fleach (aka "Hot Dog Water"). By the end, Marcie was saying, "that's my girl" whenever Velma went off into adventure. Even the writers of that show couldn't help but hint that maybe Velma's destined to be with a woman.

Notice how the Queerbaiting didn't really start until after the show started losing a lot of viewers when it got very political in Season 4.
Let's be honest, as much as we love this show, Supergirl admittedly doesn't have the best writing. After Season 3 it declined in writing quality. Season 4 did get better but they still kept losing viewers to the point where the only people were still watching we're mostly SuperCorp fans so I think the writers knew this and started doing things in Season 5 that made it seems something was there between Lena and Kara when there really wasn't. I think they were self-aware the show just wasn't good as a Superhero shows like it once was and started queerbaiting to keep people watching.
Oh, Adam. You loving Reign and Sam was never "low key."
I don't know whether to say that I was waiting for this video since the beginning of the sixth season, because to be honest I was expecting more one titled "SuperCorp the best love story on television" but that would only happen in a perfect world 🥴😖 on this CW only gave us a point of origin for our villains stories 🤡😈

Finally! Been waiting for this since I binged the second half of Supergirl. Thanks for being so much fun Adam even in your rants.
Lena and Kara not getting together is something I could accept, BUT I hate that the season the show ALSO wasted time setting up the pairing of Lex and Nyxly. What the heck was that even FOR? Neither the audience nor Nyxly herself believed it, and Lex's love turned out to be false anyway, so who freaking cares?
A better use of time would have been 20 minutes of Lena snuggling into Kara's bedsheets and sleeping in Kara's extra Super-cape. Sounds like a waste of time? Yes, but it would have been better than a failed ship.
They truly deserved to be canon. Their chemistry and bond was just too good. Their selfless acts for each other. The way they lost so many people but at the end of the day never let go of each other. Kept fighting for it. They were soulmates. This whole season was basically all the confirmation I needed ( the others too but especially this one ). They were so clearly set up as a couple. Their future is tied to each other. Since the show has a open ending I will go ahead and believe they got married in the future.

So, I was watching Supercorp scenes and without any context on supergirl, my friend and sister walked in, stared at the TV screen for a few minutes and my friend was like, “I didn’t know Supergirl had a girlfriend!?” Me and my sister started laughing so hard. If my friend (who has has a terrible gay-dar) can see that, than other people surely would 😭 😭 😂 😆

I’d love to know the real reason why Supercorp didn’t happen. Like an interview from the writers or something but they seem like cowards to admit they baited their relationship. This is also the first show I’ve seen where the cast and crew have barely promoted their last season at all which I thought was odd too.
Season 6 overall was a let down (not saying there weren’t some great moments, but they were rare). I would have loved to see more of Kara saving the day like back to her season one self. It’s like being in the phantom zone for so long should have empowered her (like all superheroes) but when she came back she was even weaker, barely winning in anything. Lucky Lena was their to notice and support her like all clichéd canon couples do. Also, Lex and Nxly I thought was a waste of screen time. The last season should have been focused more on the main characters and summing up their storylines. Supercorp I knew wasn’t going to happen but still such a massive let down, especially with the emphasise on “friends” in the last episode like wtf was that? Lol It was corny asf and I agree Supercorp especially was a massive f you to us fans. As always thanks for the rant. Going to miss these.

I saw OUAT vibes and back on S2 I dropped the show. Only watched your reactions and not all of them. It is as some comments say, we are on 2021 (2022) and it is so sad how they use the necessity people have for representation just to not lose viewers. It's not something they should play with.

Regarding the writing.Azi was on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast a few weeks ago.Azi revealed that due to COVID delays,Melissa's pregnancy and then finding out season 6 would be the final season,the show had to scrap the storylines for the entire season and start from scratch.So basically the season 6 we got was not what they had originally planned.
They had to change everything after they found out the show was ending.But they still kept their commitment to Azie to let her write a episode.It's why she joined the writers room.She also had to start from scratch.
But they scratched the whole season.They had to re-do everything because season 6 they were not planning to be the last season from the sound of it.Chyler also said in a interview promoting,'Armageddon'that the news Supergirl was ending came in late.
Would love to know what the original season 6 plans/storylines were.

I've been waiting for this video! Some Supercorp fans have been shipping Kara & Lena from the beginning, but early on I didn't see it. I was like, "nah, they're just friends" (plus I really liked Mon-El, so I was sad to see him leave), but over time and especially towards the end, you can't deny they were setting up a relationship for Kara & Lena. A blind alien could see that ship from space. 😂 I wish they would have had the courage to make them cannon.

I had siminlar discussions with my older sister and my mom about Rizzoli & Isles (when I dared to say that Rizzles scenes are more romantic than Castle&Beckett scenes.... esh the drama!) and all I can say is: just because you don't see it, does not mean it's not there. but here s the thing...subtext and queerbaiting are two different things.....subtext actively works out a way to make you figure out two people are together, they may even work in a way to make the characters kiss or have full blown romantic actions, or sharing a kid; it was a way in which in the 90's we made our first breakthros in television; subtext walked so maintext could run;queerbaiting is just authors being assholes making them say things that feel meaningful but go nowhere, promising to give them storylines together but not keepin them promises; not finding a way to even make them kiss, keep people watchin just for the revenue...etc. Rizzles was a clear case of subtext, it was 2010 a period in which (between 2003 and 2010)writers didnt fully know how to behave after the shows which had made the breakthro in the 90's and early 2000s ended; very few shows (like for example the original L word) would go outta their way to make things maintext(and even L word had its bouts of subtext); supercorp is a clear case of queerbaiting and in 2021(soon to be 2022), that s just not fuckin it( i wouldnt have accepted it and lamented it even if it had been subtext, but a bit less because at least they d have given...something...)

Oh Adam I think you said everything I feel, it's really frustrating how we were denied what could be the best love story. I mean, deep down we all knew, we knew they wouldn't, but the way they portrayed their relationship in the last season made me have a little bit of hope, it could be epic. Now we only have a memory of how incredible Supercorp was, many fanfics and funny moments.

I have so much to say, but in the end - my hunch is that there just may not be any satisfactory thing we can get in the end for this. Unless it's something like with Xena where even 20 yrs later the community continued to ship them and behind the scenes they became cannon - it was acknowledged by the writers like Katherine Fugate, the Rob show runner, the leads and supporting cast themselves and everyone else that they were cannon. They had 2 fan-witnessed marriage proposals in those 2 decades after the show ended. Will we ever get something like that for Supercorp, who knows? Would they care to give us that level of acknowledgment, who knows? For this reason I did not emotionally invest myself and expected them to NOT be cannon because I at least had the fanfic community where it matters most. ;) Thanks for all your videos!
