And I will always protect you. I promise." (2x18)/Peter to Mary Jane: "I want you to know, that I will always be there for you; I will always be there to take care of you. I promise you that. I will always be your friend". True! I think they end up paralleling a lot of canon couples (which comes with the territory of using so many romantic tropes with them), and I hated having to only include the few I did because there just isn't time to list them all! But thank you for including this here!

I can understand wanting more representation, but at the same tine rewriting a character after years of having clear characterization seems like a poor decision.
"Lois and Clark" was pretty much ALL about Lois and Clark navigating a relationship both before and after Clark tells the Super-secret. This was basically the season 5 subplot and might be a similar plot for season 6 of Supergirl.
This was great, Anna! You perfectly laid out all of the reasons, in a calm objective manner, for why Supercorp should be endgame! 20 pages of examples, and frankly you probably could have written 20 more with the amount of parallels and tropes this show uses between these two characters. Great job, and here's hoping for #SupercorpEndgame in season 6!!

This was really amazing, with an objective look at what Kara and Lena's relationship is. It was a great job and every supercorp or supergirl fan should listen, because there is everything, no lies and no bias. We just want Kara and Lena to be happy, and we know they both shine like sunshine when they are together and are unstoppable. (By the way, the subtitles are pretty good, thanks)

So well researched and argued. I've read/seen SO many of these I didn't think there was anything I had missed but you brought up many important points I hadn't heard of yet. And oh my god I totally missed all the other Romeo & Juliet parallels - the only one I recognized immediately was 5x01 with Kara stuffing her face on the ground floor and looking up at Lena on the balcony at the award ceremony since it was so blatant and so visual.

I remember when I watching Legend of Korra, I never ever thought Korrasami would happen, this was way back in 2014. Same with Adventure time with Bubbline then Adora and Catra. Even, Harley and Ivy in the new cartoon series. I never thought any of these ships would come true but they did. My guard is high but I still, have hopes for SuperCorp.
I saw the chemistry between catra and adora, but i never hoped... when it happened I was shell-shocked for days.. after that I flipped out. Love that show.

I was so looking forward to seeing your review about the future of Supercorp and now here comes the rant lol Okay all I can say is that they better not pull a GOT ending at us because that will just end badly for them and especially for Superman and Lois. Now, dont get me wrong, as much as I love Clark and Lois, their story is just done to me to be honest like they have a family now so wouldn't that be the end of their story? I'm just saying. Also, after hearing some bullcrap source saying they are thinking about having Kara run off with Mon El into the future so they can have her make appearance on future crossovers is stupid and there's so many things wrong with that. One is it just doesnt make sense because he hasnt been mentioned anytime from season 4 to season 5 (minus the 100th episode and even so he was there to help Kara sort out her feelings for Lena. Hell, all the deleted scenes were just about Supercorp because even William help Kara about her feelings for Lena too). Plus, if we go by their logic, its been 2 years since Mon-El been gone so if he does come back (i really dont see the reason why), he will be 24 years older and probably already haves a family by now so yeah. Another point is that they are trying to force William down our throats and they saw how bad that was so why bring back Mon-El (besides only to please the Karamel stans which is a shock they are still alive. They already had their time in the sun so now its time for Supercorp to get that too).Lastly, whats the whole point of having Kara and Lena being on good terms just to rip Kara away from her again? lol didnt they just show what happens when they dont have each other in their lives? Utter chaos! They should just face it. They set up Kara and Lena more as a possible couple than the other canon couples (no offence to Alex and Kelly, Nia and Brainy, and Jonn and Mgann). All they have to do is not listen to those homophobes who probably dont watch the show and start listening to their fans that they are trying to silence so badly, which is just gonna make us raise our voices louder. If they want to bring her back for future references, they could have her just go on a trip with Lena and the Superfriends or take a vacation to Argo to spend time with her mom either by herself or Lena (I perfer Lena lol) like Clark and Lois did or have it that National City enters a state of peace for a while which can let Kara focusing on being just Kara. These are just suggestions I'm thinking of at the moment. Funny enough, there's a part of me that feels like that article was to just get the Supercorps riled up which is pretty funny because I see that as them being scared of it actually happening and they just want to make themselves feel good by making us lose our minds. Just an interesting thought that came to my head. Overall, Kara and Lena deserves each other and all of the characters deserve a proper and happy ending so let's go on that! I don't usually comment but this video is fantastic! I would like to say that being older I have had a friendship sort of similar to Rizzoli and Isles. Me and my bestfriend were super close. She made my favorite meals and I would give her flowers. That was our way of Express love for each other. I'm a lesbian and she's straight as an arrow married with children. It took me a while to see more then friendship because of my own experience. That being said Supergirl writers definitely go beyond friendship. I don't know if it's just because neither Lena nor Kara has ever had a bestfriend or what. Kara's never flown all over the world to get Alex her favorite foods I don't believe but Barry does for Iris (favorite ice cream). A bouquet of flowers is friendship, an office overflowing with flowers.. that's not platonic. The writers have made Lena and Kara's relationship seem even more important to Kara than her relationship with Alex. Alex finding out that she's gay after all these years should be able to have a discussion with Kara about her relationship with Lena. Me personally I'd be like I don't even do for my girlfriend what you've done for Lena. You need to think about your romantic feelings towards guys you've dated and how you feel about Lena. I thought the whole season 4 was going to be about that. It was about humans and aliens getting along so why not be the power couple they are and bring both sides together against the children of liberty. Even if they were platonic friends like so many other gal pals on tv shows you don't do a whole season based on a friendship. Even Alex told Kara that. You have one do over in life and this is what you chose to do with that do over? But y'all are straight? People still don't see Supercorp when the writers took a whole season to show it to you! In "It's a Super Life" Alex says to Kara "You want to change history to save a _friendship_ ?" and you can practically hear the air-quotes in her voice!
This was so so so beautifully said, and scripted and wrote. Seriously; I couldn't have worded it better myself. You even listed Parallel's I didn't even notice until before now; like the 100TH episode comparison between Braina and Supercorp, with trying to bring their other half back to the 'good' side and help them see clearer. And what you said about her fighting Alex but REFUSING to fight Lena; it never even occured to me. I mean when you look at it from that angle it clearly shows HOW much Lena truly means to her. She was willing to DIE, just willingly just at the hands of someone in that alternative reality, who didn't at all show any care for Kara, I mean how could she? She didn't even know Kara in that reality, just simply addressing their realtionship with one sentence in that reality to Kara. "Where were you?"- This shows that Kara ALWAYS being there for Lena evidentally proves it's meaning and necessity about their relationship, I mean just before Kara addressed the situation about treating Lena like 'any other villian' she stated she'd be there for her; if Lena chose the right path. In her reality she's always been there for Lena, no matter what the cause. No matter who said what, EVEN before their friendship truly took off, she was there. Yet in this reality she wasn't, and this took it's tole on Lena; causing her not to be used as she wanted herself and L-corp as a 'force for good', but in fact used by her own mother as you said to be used as a weapon against Kara. That wasn't KARA'S Lena. But Kara didn't care. She didn't care it wasn't the Lena she'd grown to love, she didn't care it wasn't her Lena. She never could fight Lena, ever. Because to Kara, Lena 'Means the World to her.' I referenced the song that was played in the background when she took Lex's journals for her btw. Overall this explanation is so well done, and just made me ship Supercorp even MORE, if that's even possible for me at this stage.-
You are truly amazing bringing up other couples for your examples to compare with Supercorp. You were thoughtful and insightful about Supercorp listing all the reasons why Kara and Lena are a couple. So I do hope that the writers will make Supercorp happen because Kara and Lena are the heart and soul of the show. I agree! I think the Danvers sisters are the heart, while Kara and Lena are the soul, honestly. I will be doing recap episodes for the entire season 6, and will definitely make a really emotional episode about the finale! I had a breakthrough last week, in thinking about Supercorp---specifically, in trying to figure out Kara. And the breakthrough came through... ... _Batwoman_ . Kara always seemed so complicated to me, compared to Lena (I've yammered at length about her, here and elsewhere. In brief, Lena subconsciously always knew that Kara=Supergirl, but suppressed it---"chose not to see it" per Lex---because to know they were one person would be to realize she was in love w/ that one person, Kara Zor-El). I think I see now that Kara (her feelings for Lena) is actually SIMPLER to understand---so simple, in fact, that I overlooked it! Batwoman: it was in the discussion of Ryan and Luke, about how Kate dated: "not well" . . . because you can't really get close to someone who doesn't know your superhero secret identity! *BINGO!* Yes, Kara did keep her SG identity secret, to protect Lena . . . but in order to _protect herself!_ She kept Lena deliberately at arms length, because she knew that to let Lena in, would be to fall for her . . . but the desperate lengths she went to keep it a secret (YEARS) only shows that she already _had_ fallen for her! *Kara is just as afraid to love, as Lena is.* For Lena, loving means being betrayed. For Kara, love means physical loss: the loss of her home planet, those she loved there (the discovery that her mother was still alive I don't think was really unpacked---frankly, I don't want to see that w/ either of her parents now. There's not enough time left in the show). Here on Earth, is the realization of the SHOCKING vulnerability of humans, compared to herself. How you let yourself really risk falling in love w/ one, when they could so easily (again, compared to herself) be killed any minute? [For all the toxicity of her S2 relationship w/ Mon-El, she said as much to him---that it was a comfort that he was about as physically sturdy as she was.] Lena was all about mental gymnastics (appropriate, that a genius could deceive herself): compartmentalizing her "Kara Danvers" boxes, vs her "Supergirl" boxes (until Lex blew the system up). Kara just keeps everyone at arm's length: "protecting"...herself, from loving them only to lose them. Kara tried to keep Lena at arm's length for forever...but the cognitive dissonance (by 5.1) was just too great. She "didn't want to lose" Lena, in a life&death way (really though, w/ Lena working w/ Supergirl on a regular basis, was she really any more vulnerable knowing she was Kara, than not?), but could see she was already, in an emotional sense, killing the relationship by her double-life subterfuge. Paging Kelly Olson! These two need couples' therapy in the worst way.... ;-)
This may seem like a weird comparison, but in thinking about Kara---and Kara keeping Lena at arm's length, so as not to fall in love w/ her (because, for Kara, Love = Loss), I was reminded of this tremendously moving scene from the film, _Shadowlands_ . If you haven't seen it: set in early 1950s Oxford England, it's about the love story between famous "Narnia" (and a slew of Christian books, fiction and non-) author C.S. "Jack" Lewis, and American Joy Davidman Gresham [Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger, respectively]. She's a fan, escaping a difficult marriage (w/ a young son), they meet and become friends. She wants to stay in England, so Lewis offers her a marriage-of-convenience (which she gratefully accepts). But Lewis is a "confirmed bachelor" (in the plain, asexual sense of the word. Best guess is that he wasn't gay), and that's all it is: a marriage of convenience. That's all that his male friends think it is. Then Joy gets cancer. And at this time, that mostly means terminal. LOL, I just can't stop myself. I keep coming back to Kara in 5.1: "If I could be Kara---just Kara---I could keep you as a friend." On the surface, she's talking about "keep you as a friend", as opposed to having Lena fly off into alienation and enmity (as in fact happened, for almost the entire season). But look a little deeper, a little more subconscious: what if Kara's "keep you as a friend" REALLY means "keep you as _nothing more than a friend?_ " It's that "keep Lena at arms length so I don't fall for her {even though I really already have}" thing. There is one other major parallel you haven't used and to me it's the parallel the show was actually going for, Kara and Alex. I think the show was trying to display the transition of Alex to Lena. Throughout the series the theme for Alex has been that she has no life outside Kara and every time she's tried, it's been dangerous to Kara, enter Lena. The show displayed Alex observing Lena and Kara interacting in the same way Alex and Kara do. Many of the romantic parallels you stated also apply to Alex. Everything from the saves to calling each other their hero. Alex and Kara have also established that partner also can imply sisterly bond. Season 6 established Lena and Alex saying the same thing at the same time, which implies that Lena holds the same level of bond as Alex. Also established is Alex slowly pulling away as Lena and Kara grow closer, implying that Alex no longer needs to be Kara's only support and has allowed Lena to be Kara's sister. As Alex grew closer to her new family, she was able to be assured by Lena's actions that Kara would be protected by someone who cared just as much. I think the show was trying to say that Lena was able to take over Alex's role which enabled Alex to have a life outside of Kara.
That's incredible work! So enlightening. Whatever comes with season 6, I am sure the fans will be showed a good conclusion of the story. But If not, then it cries for a movie, yet, with the same cast. There is no way Lena Luthor and Supergirl/Kara can ever be played by somebody else than Katie McGrath (Katiiiiiiie) and Melissa Benoist (how can such a powerful woman look so cute?). The end? Maybe not. The world is changing, the tides are turning. Let's be optimistic, and just imagine an opening scene of that movie, Lena with a coffee mug, looking outside the window of a fourty stores tall building, hair uncombed, simply dressed in a long t-shirt, not even some make-up. She leans onto the window pane. And just right there, a silhouette comes, long fair hair, embracing her from behind, nuzzling into her neck, but from the side, so that their face is hidden. Next shot, a hand longing for the mug, taking a sip, the profile of a jaw, soft lips, and a female voice saying, with a smile: 'Hmmm... Best coffee ever...' Next shot, Kara Danvers in shorts and t-shirt, snuggling up to Lena, who looks gorgeous and delighted, with a smile all over her face, hugging Karas arms strapped around her waist. Zoom on their faces, Kara slightly taller than Lena, without glasses, staring together at a new dawn, while the sun is rising. Just that. Then slowly fade away, while the shot shows both women holding each other lovingly. A strong image, no offense to no one, simple yet powerful, right at the start of the movie. Explains everything. The kiss can come later. The passion too. What? 😳 Let's imagine things! And please, please-please-please, let it be Katie kissing Melissa! Coz the chemistry between these two is just right. And hey, who does not want to see Katie kissing girls, and the most powerful, yet shy among them, Kara Danvers...? Well, I do! 😁☀️💪
They go out of their way to show Kara and Lena as romantic from the start of season 2 (office full of flowers) then act like those scenes are not there. I don't know if they are worthless writers and don't know what they are doing, but maybe with all the forgotten or misused great plot points they are really bad at it. As a straight male I sincerely dislike Mon-el and William, the first is even used to show how hypocritical they made Kara that get angry at Mon-hell for lying about his origin for what, a few weeks? But do the same to Lena for years.

I don't think that's the real reason it's ending, I think it's more so Superman related than anything, but a significant portion of their audience that's still left ship Supercorp, and they would Gain so many viewers by actually making that relationship canon, that I think ratings would actually be a Plus here

I totally agree with you on everything, the only bad thing is that actually in the Supergirl story she goes with the Legion... they could do something with Supercorp and then Kara would come back as Powergirl to continue her relationship with Lena and even that Lena would go with her with the Legion and then come back together... that would be incredible.
That would be cool! But also, not everything /has/ to be comic accurate. I mean, they made Oliver become Spectre and then had Felicity basically die to be with him, I don't think they truly care about comic accuracy in the Arrowverse. Especially since Kara and Alex are truly the heart of the show, I can't see them separating them simply for comic accuracy, it would be such a huge disservice to their relationship and the whole theme of the show, honestly. Thanks, great vid. I think (or at least hope) that they are going for the "once and again" just friend approach. Whilst not being the epitome of sensitivity, I would say that that the way Kara-Lena is framed both visually and narratively closer to Kara romantic interest than Kara friend/family or even Lena and Andrea. As you pointed out it seem that writers and cast are behind the concept so not sure what the hold up is. I hoped for more of a Wayhaught but to be honest i'll take a last minute Kora stunt.
SDCC '19 was actually super great! The clip I included of Kevin Smith was one of the coolest moments from that con :) If you meant SDCC '17, Jeremy Jordan sang a very aggressive anti-Supercorp song that turned into a much larger and worse thing, which Katie ended up getting mad at him and Chris for.

@@farah6157 It's a theory, but it's all based on her reactions and a podcast episode that came out from that SDCC from TVLine. In interviews after, she seemed uncomfortable and snappy with Jeremy and the cast, even saying that she didn't want them to start singing again and ruin the interview. Then, in that podcast episode, the TVLine staff said that there was an uncomfortable moment for them where a cast had some fighting amongst them, and everyone assumes it was the Supergirl cast. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if she was mad because she's so outspoken about her support for the community and SC

* Both Peter and Kara kept their identities from Mary Jane and Lena respectively
* "Damsel in distress" = main love interest
* Like Kara & Lena, Peter & Mary Jane had a friendship first.

"Lois and Clark" was pretty much ALL about Lois and Clark navigating a relationship both before and after Clark tells the Super-secret. This was basically the season 5 subplot and might be a similar plot for season 6 of Supergirl.
This was great, Anna! You perfectly laid out all of the reasons, in a calm objective manner, for why Supercorp should be endgame!
20 pages of examples, and frankly you probably could have written 20 more with the amount of parallels and tropes this show uses between these two characters. Great job, and here's hoping for #SupercorpEndgame in season 6!!

So well researched and argued. I've read/seen SO many of these I didn't think there was anything I had missed but you brought up many important points I hadn't heard of yet. And oh my god I totally missed all the other Romeo & Juliet parallels - the only one I recognized immediately was 5x01 with Kara stuffing her face on the ground floor and looking up at Lena on the balcony at the award ceremony since it was so blatant and so visual.

I remember when I watching Legend of Korra, I never ever thought Korrasami would happen, this was way back in 2014. Same with Adventure time with Bubbline then Adora and Catra. Even, Harley and Ivy in the new cartoon series. I never thought any of these ships would come true but they did. My guard is high but I still, have hopes for SuperCorp.
I saw the chemistry between catra and adora, but i never hoped... when it happened I was shell-shocked for days.. after that I flipped out. Love that show.

Okay all I can say is that they better not pull a GOT ending at us because that will just end badly for them and especially for Superman and Lois. Now, dont get me wrong, as much as I love Clark and Lois, their story is just done to me to be honest like they have a family now so wouldn't that be the end of their story? I'm just saying.
Also, after hearing some bullcrap source saying they are thinking about having Kara run off with Mon El into the future so they can have her make appearance on future crossovers is stupid and there's so many things wrong with that. One is it just doesnt make sense because he hasnt been mentioned anytime from season 4 to season 5 (minus the 100th episode and even so he was there to help Kara sort out her feelings for Lena. Hell, all the deleted scenes were just about Supercorp because even William help Kara about her feelings for Lena too).
Plus, if we go by their logic, its been 2 years since Mon-El been gone so if he does come back (i really dont see the reason why), he will be 24 years older and probably already haves a family by now so yeah. Another point is that they are trying to force William down our throats and they saw how bad that was so why bring back Mon-El (besides only to please the Karamel stans which is a shock they are still alive. They already had their time in the sun so now its time for Supercorp to get that too).Lastly, whats the whole point of having Kara and Lena being on good terms just to rip Kara away from her again? lol didnt they just show what happens when they dont have each other in their lives? Utter chaos! They should just face it. They set up Kara and Lena more as a possible couple than the other canon couples (no offence to Alex and Kelly, Nia and Brainy, and Jonn and Mgann). All they have to do is not listen to those homophobes who probably dont watch the show and start listening to their fans that they are trying to silence so badly, which is just gonna make us raise our voices louder.
If they want to bring her back for future references, they could have her just go on a trip with Lena and the Superfriends or take a vacation to Argo to spend time with her mom either by herself or Lena (I perfer Lena lol) like Clark and Lois did or have it that National City enters a state of peace for a while which can let Kara focusing on being just Kara. These are just suggestions I'm thinking of at the moment.
Funny enough, there's a part of me that feels like that article was to just get the Supercorps riled up which is pretty funny because I see that as them being scared of it actually happening and they just want to make themselves feel good by making us lose our minds. Just an interesting thought that came to my head.
Overall, Kara and Lena deserves each other and all of the characters deserve a proper and happy ending so let's go on that! Supergirl fights for Justice so we are going to fight for her and everyone's Justice too and thats a fact!
P.S. Did you hear that someone wrote a book that was inspired by Supercorp? That's pretty amazing and it just goes to show how much of an impact that Supercorp haves on people's lives. I don't usually comment but this video is fantastic! I would like to say that being older I have had a friendship sort of similar to Rizzoli and Isles. Me and my bestfriend were super close. She made my favorite meals and I would give her flowers. That was our way of Express love for each other. I'm a lesbian and she's straight as an arrow married with children. It took me a while to see more then friendship because of my own experience. That being said Supergirl writers definitely go beyond friendship. I don't know if it's just because neither Lena nor Kara has ever had a bestfriend or what. Kara's never flown all over the world to get Alex her favorite foods I don't believe but Barry does for Iris (favorite ice cream). A bouquet of flowers is friendship, an office overflowing with flowers.. that's not platonic. The writers have made Lena and Kara's relationship seem even more important to Kara than her relationship with Alex. Alex finding out that she's gay after all these years should be able to have a discussion with Kara about her relationship with Lena. Me personally I'd be like I don't even do for my girlfriend what you've done for Lena. You need to think about your romantic feelings towards guys you've dated and how you feel about Lena. I thought the whole season 4 was going to be about that. It was about humans and aliens getting along so why not be the power couple they are and bring both sides together against the children of liberty. Even if they were platonic friends like so many other gal pals on tv shows you don't do a whole season based on a friendship. Even Alex told Kara that. You have one do over in life and this is what you chose to do with that do over? But y'all are straight? People still don't see Supercorp when the writers took a whole season to show it to you! In "It's a Super Life" Alex says to Kara "You want to change history to save a _friendship_ ?" and you can practically hear the air-quotes in her voice!
This was so so so beautifully said, and scripted and wrote. Seriously; I couldn't have worded it better myself. You even listed Parallel's I didn't even notice until before now; like the 100TH episode comparison between Braina and Supercorp, with trying to bring their other half back to the 'good' side and help them see clearer. And what you said about her fighting Alex but REFUSING to fight Lena; it never even occured to me. I mean when you look at it from that angle it clearly shows HOW much Lena truly means to her. She was willing to DIE, just willingly just at the hands of someone in that alternative reality, who didn't at all show any care for Kara, I mean how could she? She didn't even know Kara in that reality, just simply addressing their realtionship with one sentence in that reality to Kara.
"Where were you?"- This shows that Kara ALWAYS being there for Lena evidentally proves it's meaning and necessity about their relationship, I mean just before Kara addressed the situation about treating Lena like 'any other villian' she stated she'd be there for her; if Lena chose the right path. In her reality she's always been there for Lena, no matter what the cause. No matter who said what, EVEN before their friendship truly took off, she was there. Yet in this reality she wasn't, and this took it's tole on Lena; causing her not to be used as she wanted herself and L-corp as a 'force for good', but in fact used by her own mother as you said to be used as a weapon against Kara. That wasn't KARA'S Lena. But Kara didn't care. She didn't care it wasn't the Lena she'd grown to love, she didn't care it wasn't her Lena. She never could fight Lena, ever. Because to Kara, Lena 'Means the World to her.' I referenced the song that was played in the background when she took Lex's journals for her btw.
Overall this explanation is so well done, and just made me ship Supercorp even MORE, if that's even possible for me at this stage.-

I agree! I think the Danvers sisters are the heart, while Kara and Lena are the soul, honestly. I had a breakthrough last week, in thinking about Supercorp---specifically, in trying to figure out Kara. And the breakthrough came through...

Kara always seemed so complicated to me, compared to Lena (I've yammered at length about her, here and elsewhere. In brief, Lena subconsciously always knew that Kara=Supergirl, but suppressed it---"chose not to see it" per Lex---because to know they were one person would be to realize she was in love w/ that one person, Kara Zor-El).
I think I see now that Kara (her feelings for Lena) is actually SIMPLER to understand---so simple, in fact, that I overlooked it!
Batwoman: it was in the discussion of Ryan and Luke, about how Kate dated: "not well" . . . because you can't really get close to someone who doesn't know your superhero secret identity!
*BINGO!* Yes, Kara did keep her SG identity secret, to protect Lena . . . but in order to _protect herself!_ She kept Lena deliberately at arms length, because she knew that to let Lena in, would be to fall for her . . . but the desperate lengths she went to keep it a secret (YEARS) only shows that she already _had_ fallen for her! *Kara is just as afraid to love, as Lena is.*
For Lena, loving means being betrayed. For Kara, love means physical loss: the loss of her home planet, those she loved there (the discovery that her mother was still alive I don't think was really unpacked---frankly, I don't want to see that w/ either of her parents now. There's not enough time left in the show). Here on Earth, is the realization of the SHOCKING vulnerability of humans, compared to herself. How you let yourself really risk falling in love w/ one, when they could so easily (again, compared to herself) be killed any minute? [For all the toxicity of her S2 relationship w/ Mon-El, she said as much to him---that it was a comfort that he was about as physically sturdy as she was.]
Lena was all about mental gymnastics (appropriate, that a genius could deceive herself): compartmentalizing her "Kara Danvers" boxes, vs her "Supergirl" boxes (until Lex blew the system up). Kara just keeps everyone at arm's length: "protecting"...herself, from loving them only to lose them. Kara tried to keep Lena at arm's length for forever...but the cognitive dissonance (by 5.1) was just too great. She "didn't want to lose" Lena, in a life&death way (really though, w/ Lena working w/ Supergirl on a regular basis, was she really any more vulnerable knowing she was Kara, than not?), but could see she was already, in an emotional sense, killing the relationship by her double-life subterfuge.
Paging Kelly Olson! These two need couples' therapy in the worst way.... ;-)
This may seem like a weird comparison, but in thinking about Kara---and Kara keeping Lena at arm's length, so as not to fall in love w/ her (because, for Kara, Love = Loss), I was reminded of this tremendously moving scene from the film, _Shadowlands_ .
If you haven't seen it: set in early 1950s Oxford England, it's about the love story between famous "Narnia" (and a slew of Christian books, fiction and non-) author C.S. "Jack" Lewis, and American Joy Davidman Gresham [Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger, respectively]. She's a fan, escaping a difficult marriage (w/ a young son), they meet and become friends. She wants to stay in England, so Lewis offers her a marriage-of-convenience (which she gratefully accepts). But Lewis is a "confirmed bachelor" (in the plain, asexual sense of the word. Best guess is that he wasn't gay), and that's all it is: a marriage of convenience. That's all that his male friends think it is.
Then Joy gets cancer. And at this time, that mostly means terminal.

I think Kara sees herself as risking "the torments of the damned" to let herself fully love (and to _chose_ to love, in a way that she didn't have to w/ Alex and J'on): THAT is why didn't reveal herself to Lena.

On the surface, she's talking about "keep you as a friend", as opposed to having Lena fly off into alienation and enmity (as in fact happened, for almost the entire season).
But look a little deeper, a little more subconscious: what if Kara's "keep you as a friend" REALLY means "keep you as _nothing more than a friend?_ " It's that "keep Lena at arms length so I don't fall for her {even though I really already have}" thing.

I've seen the parallels between Supercorp and other couples but damn, you found even more than I did.

I know right! It's been confirmed multiple times that all Kryptonians are basically pansexual, and I wish CWSG would follow through with that

There is one other major parallel you haven't used and to me it's the parallel the show was actually going for, Kara and Alex. I think the show was trying to display the transition of Alex to Lena. Throughout the series the theme for Alex has been that she has no life outside Kara and every time she's tried, it's been dangerous to Kara, enter Lena. The show displayed Alex observing Lena and Kara interacting in the same way Alex and Kara do. Many of the romantic parallels you stated also apply to Alex. Everything from the saves to calling each other their hero. Alex and Kara have also established that partner also can imply sisterly bond. Season 6 established Lena and Alex saying the same thing at the same time, which implies that Lena holds the same level of bond as Alex. Also established is Alex slowly pulling away as Lena and Kara grow closer, implying that Alex no longer needs to be Kara's only support and has allowed Lena to be Kara's sister. As Alex grew closer to her new family, she was able to be assured by Lena's actions that Kara would be protected by someone who cared just as much. I think the show was trying to say that Lena was able to take over Alex's role which enabled Alex to have a life outside of Kara.

That's incredible work! So enlightening. Whatever comes with season 6, I am sure the fans will be showed a good conclusion of the story. But If not, then it cries for a movie, yet, with the same cast.
There is no way Lena Luthor and Supergirl/Kara can ever be played by somebody else than Katie McGrath (Katiiiiiiie) and Melissa Benoist (how can such a powerful woman look so cute?).
The end? Maybe not. The world is changing, the tides are turning. Let's be optimistic, and just imagine an opening scene of that movie, Lena with a coffee mug, looking outside the window of a fourty stores tall building, hair uncombed, simply dressed in a long t-shirt, not even some make-up. She leans onto the window pane.
And just right there, a silhouette comes, long fair hair, embracing her from behind, nuzzling into her neck, but from the side, so that their face is hidden. Next shot, a hand longing for the mug, taking a sip, the profile of a jaw, soft lips, and a female voice saying, with a smile: 'Hmmm... Best coffee ever...'
Next shot, Kara Danvers in shorts and t-shirt, snuggling up to Lena, who looks gorgeous and delighted, with a smile all over her face, hugging Karas arms strapped around her waist.
Zoom on their faces, Kara slightly taller than Lena, without glasses, staring together at a new dawn, while the sun is rising.
Just that.
Then slowly fade away, while the shot shows both women holding each other lovingly.
A strong image, no offense to no one, simple yet powerful, right at the start of the movie. Explains everything. The kiss can come later. The passion too.

And please, please-please-please, let it be Katie kissing Melissa! Coz the chemistry between these two is just right. And hey, who does not want to see Katie kissing girls, and the most powerful, yet shy among them, Kara Danvers...? Well, I do!

They go out of their way to show Kara and Lena as romantic from the start of season 2 (office full of flowers) then act like those scenes are not there.
I don't know if they are worthless writers and don't know what they are doing, but maybe with all the forgotten or misused great plot points they are really bad at it.
As a straight male I sincerely dislike Mon-el and William, the first is even used to show how hypocritical they made Kara that get angry at Mon-hell for lying about his origin for what, a few weeks? But do the same to Lena for years.

What do they have to lose? Good question. More ratings. A significant part of the reasons that the show is ending in the first place.
I don't think that's the real reason it's ending, I think it's more so Superman related than anything, but a significant portion of their audience that's still left ship Supercorp, and they would Gain so many viewers by actually making that relationship canon, that I think ratings would actually be a Plus here

The people that want them together even if the showrunners don't go down that path, or those who don't want them together if they actually were to put the two in a non-platonic relationship?

I totally agree with you on everything, the only bad thing is that actually in the Supergirl story she goes with the Legion... they could do something with Supercorp and then Kara would come back as Powergirl to continue her relationship with Lena and even that Lena would go with her with the Legion and then come back together... that would be incredible.
That would be cool! But also, not everything /has/ to be comic accurate. I mean, they made Oliver become Spectre and then had Felicity basically die to be with him, I don't think they truly care about comic accuracy in the Arrowverse. Especially since Kara and Alex are truly the heart of the show, I can't see them separating them simply for comic accuracy, it would be such a huge disservice to their relationship and the whole theme of the show, honestly. Thanks, great vid. I think (or at least hope) that they are going for the "once and again" just friend approach. Whilst not being the epitome of sensitivity, I would say that that the way Kara-Lena is framed both visually and narratively closer to Kara romantic interest than Kara friend/family or even Lena and Andrea. As you pointed out it seem that writers and cast are behind the concept so not sure what the hold up is. I hoped for more of a Wayhaught but to be honest i'll take a last minute Kora stunt.

SDCC '19 was actually super great! The clip I included of Kevin Smith was one of the coolest moments from that con :) If you meant SDCC '17, Jeremy Jordan sang a very aggressive anti-Supercorp song that turned into a much larger and worse thing, which Katie ended up getting mad at him and Chris for.

In interviews after, she seemed uncomfortable and snappy with Jeremy and the cast, even saying that she didn't want them to start singing again and ruin the interview. Then, in that podcast episode, the TVLine staff said that there was an uncomfortable moment for them where a cast had some fighting amongst them, and everyone assumes it was the Supergirl cast. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if she was mad because she's so outspoken about her support for the community and SC
