- Follow me on this rainy day in March, as I test out my new camera. The Sooke Hills Wilderness Trail is a 13 km stretch of gravel that connects to the Cowichan Valley Trail, which can be taken another 55 km to Lake Cowichan. The Sooke Hills portion was recently re-graveled in early 2020 and features a suspension bridge and some steep climbs.

Love the suspension bridge!
I did it yesterday on 28's and had a freakin blast, At one pt approx. 13 km in, I crossed a road then had to use a very very narrow trail. Ended up carrying my heavy bike for almost a km up and down but that just added to the adventure! Prob much better on 32's but got the job done on28's with only 1 flat! 88km in total from Esquimalt.
I think that portion that you are referring to is private land and you are suppose to take the road to the right and then turn left. With that being said I normally take the same route you do and it’s more fun. Sometimes there is snow in that section in the winter.
@@SirBikesAlot cool. Thanks for the video. Is there other good gravel routes in the area? I'm new to Vic. Thanks
@@GuitarguyRichard56 Do you have instagram? Send me a message (sir.bikes.alot) and I can send you come routes and give you more info :)
How far along is that trail closed sign?
The sign in about 2 -4 km from the south trailhead.
@@SirBikesAlot So annoying, I just discover this trail and there is already a closed sign. Do they mean "closed" or can you just go around the barrier and its fine after that?
A T - It’s the latter, you can just skip past the sign and after about 50 feet you go passed the other closed sign and you’ll be good!
Where can I find a map to download?
Here is a PDF of the map. If you use google maps and enter in for bicycle directions to say the Kinsol Tresel you can select an option for the trail parallels the Malahat to the west.
