  • Learn how to use Google Jamboard for digital interactive notebooks in this week's edtech tutorial.
    In this video, you'll learn why you might want to consider using Google Jamboard rather than Google Slides or PowerPoint for digital interactive notebooks, as well as how to set them up for students. Then, you'll also learn how to set them up using Slides templates from SlidesMania, as well as how to assign Jamboard notebooks to students using Google Classroom, and how to give students new slide backgrounds even after you've assigned them. You can find SlidesMania templates here: slidesmania.com/

    So I just started my first 12:1 class for a maternity leave….this is giving me so many ideas to do with my students! I have them all working with different startegies (describe the character, BME, SCAPES, 5 W’s/ 5 finger retell) and honestly it has been so overwhelming. I love that I could make probably 1 for each type of strategy or a mix and assign them to each student. This is such a game changer, no more copying tons of papers 😭

      As long as each student has been given her own individualized copy of the jamboard through "assignments", the student should not have access to your master copy. But if you are all working on a jamboard together, there is no way to prevent or track down rogue editors.

    Thank you for your great video! One difficulty I am facing when I use Jamboard in the online classroom is this; We do not use Google classroom in my institution. So,I would have to make copies for each student ahead and send each link to each student via Zoom chat. It seems that is the only way each student can work on the Jamboard individually.
    So, my method only works when the class is tiny. When there are 20+ students, copying and sending the link to each student takes a long time, and I don't get to use Jamboard.
    I am looking forward to your suggestion. I appreciate any help you can provide.

    • @NewEdTechClassroom
      @NewEdTechClassroom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Helen, try editing the back end of the link so that it says “copy” rather than view or edit. This will force-push “make a copy” for students. Just note that they will then become the document owners, and will need to share it with you if you want access.

    This is great, Sam; thank you for sharing. I have two questions: 1) I would like teens to share their work with others for comments, which is an easy possibility in Slides, however, I'm not sure how it would work in Jamboard. Would they be able to share a link so it is editable and then change the permissions back to protect? Also, I just designed a Google slide notebook that's on custom-sized 8.5 x 11 slides. It look like Jamboard doesn't have the ability to resize their frames, and I saw on their FAQ page that I'm not the only one asking for this. 2) Second question: Any chance you have some connections to help expedite this request?

    • @NewEdTechClassroom
      @NewEdTechClassroom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha! No, I definitely don't have any connections to expedite the process, though Google did announce that revision history is coming to Jamboard soon, so that's good. Yes, you can easily switch back and forth between view and edit mode in Jamboard. You're right that right now there isn't any way to resize the frames. Best of luck!

    • @annwoodruff6383

    • @NewEdTechClassroom
      @NewEdTechClassroom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They would have to proactively go up to the Backgrounds tab and change the Image. It can be done, which is still a Jamboard flaw, but if using it for this purpose, it's less consequential.

    • @Liliane7969
      @Liliane7969 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since each student get their own copy, the student who tries to change the background will only damage his own assignment. The original and the other students task will be preserved.

    This is great! My personal issue with doing things like this is I'm a specialized sex-ed teacher that is the only teacher teaching this subject at my school so I teach all 400+ students. I see so much potential for this tool but just thinking about having to grade that many assignments is giving me anxiety. It would be awesome if there was some kind of auto correct feature (like in Google Forms) built into some of these online teaching resources.
    Can you please share any online teaching resources that have built in auto correct for more than just quizzes? Teachers like me who teach large groups or teach the same content to multiple classes would be eternally grateful.

      To be honest my number 1 piece of advice here would be to shift your mindset about grading and nix most grading of formative assessments (like Jamboard). Otherwise, you can also start using automated comment banks, as shown in the video below, as well as self-assessment and peer assessment using rubrics with clearly defined categories and criteria. th-cam.com/video/yUmm6qaLr4c/w-d-xo.html

I want to add reading passages and then have students respond to them. Checking for understanding....if I've downloaded the passage as jpeg file it wouldn't be able to be deleted. Is that correct? What about links to youtube and google slides. Are they interactive without being able to be deleted? Thank you.

Then they will need to share that document back with you. Hope that helps, and if someone else knows differently, please let us know!
